6517 I’d like some chocolate teddy grahams, please.

Some excellent observations on writing.

Ever wonder what a site that had a rather nasty radioactive accident might look like years after?

This young woman and her motorcycle have ventured and found out. Very interesting, the sheer creepiness factor is rather high.

I sort of like this LED beer mug.

JK Rawling is going to go back and revise the Harry Potter books? “For all those children who know every twist and turn of the Potter plots, she had a word of warning — when she finishes the saga with Book Seven, she will settle down and revise them all. ”

Man, I’ve long since said that she needed an editor, but I figure it’s rather too late, now. Why write new books, if you can just alter the internals of known big sellers, and release ’em again? Bad Show! Do ’em right the first time, and save other cool story elements for *a new tale*!

Go play some fun 80’s games.

Random Scotto CoD factoid.. every time I’ve let the computer pick a side for me to play on in multi-player, I’ve been a German. Now, is that just some “Rosenkrantz/Guildernstern Are Dead” luck, or is it because people naturally want to play the allies, and I get tossed into the side that needs more players? I’ve come up Kraut 8 times out of 8. It’d be nice to play a Brit or whatever as a change of pace.

Dan showed the true difference in our ages yesterday… he’s on the side of “folks that don’t know how to properly set VCR clocks” and I’m on the other. I think there was some educational hump we went over regarding people born after 1964 or so. (Of course some mileage may vary.) I think that most folks under forty are able to deal more comfortably with remote-control based technology, and computers in general than most folks born before then. Note that I say *most*. He couldn’t for the life of him figure out how to turn off subtitles on his DVD player. (It eventually turned out that the button on the remote marked “subtitles” was the answer.) He’s not a stupid guy, far from it… but he simply hasn’t much familiarity with technology that I take for granted.

My favorite Bluto Song Quote from the Popeye movie:

I’m so mean I had a dream of beatin’ myself up;
I broke my nose, I broke my hand, I wrestled myself to the ground and then
Choked myself to death then broke the choke and woke up!

That’s how mean I’m mean. I’m mean.
Ya know what I mean?

6516 bro update, Newt update, train ride piccies, CoD fun.

Call of Duty is pretty keen! I tried out the multi-player, and I’m not quite ready for it yet… the first solo player mission is pretty nifty so far.

I think I’m going to pass on going grocery shopping today, and save it for tomorrow or Tuesday… I have enough to get by fairly well, and was out far too long on Saturday for my liking, though I enjoyed it.

An assortment of piccies from yesterday’s train ride – 9 shots total

6515 Remainder of the day

Hopped the city cruiser to tri rail, from the las olas stop, and took the 2pm (Sat.) Fort Lauderdale up to Palm Beach. Kev and I got together, exchanged Christmas and birthday gifts, dined on Bud’s fantastic french fries, and watched the newish Looney Toons movie on DVD. Paul and Bheesh skipped out, as is the normal pattern, but Brad came by for the movie, and left shortly afterward. We played some Simpsons’ Road Rage and Mechassault head to head on his Xbox, and had a good time catching up and shooting the breeze. He’s got a 50-inch lcd TV that makes playing games quite a hoot.

Karen has a new boyfriend that drives down to see her all the time from Cocoa Beach… Lauren Had a fourth child, and apparently she’s getting her tubes tied now. Al looks like he’s lost some weight, too.

Felix and Jinxie are big now, and Dexter is just about a hundred pounds. Strange that Indy and Tippy are long gone now… Ripley is an old Maid now, and still the bottom rung on the pack’s totem pole… even servile to the kitties.

The gifts I received were Command and Conquer:Generals (for Christmas) and Call of Duty (for my birthday). Looks like I’ve moved from driving and throwing games to some war for a while. Not sure which I’ll run with, first… probably call of duty.

I lent Kev Tron 2.0 and Simpsons: Hit and Run to keep him busy now that he’s just coming down off of some of his older games.

6514 To the Vet!

Newtie at the vet for shots and such.

He was a very good boy.. no muss, no fuss, and was perfectly content to take his shots like a man. erm, tomcat. He was a bit nervous and skulky when I first put him in the travel-box, but he was fine, once we got moving. He wasn’t drooly or cranky at all this time. His weight is still the same, and the doctor complimented him on how clean, fit, and well-loved he is.

Newt Relaxing near a diagram of a cat’s ear and tissue box.
I love his little bendy-paw.

2 more pictures of Newt at the vet.

6511 Morning Miscellany

I need to get a travel crate for Newt… or at least a not-so-Newtie beat-up cardboard box to take him n to the doc on Saturday.

This morning, I get to teach the baby-techs how to use the sat-mapping system. 20 minutes for everyone, and an additional half hour for folks that will actually be on call, and Big Kahuna.(who takes call very rarely now, but still needs to be up on her technology.) In order to get around the $600 a seat lisence that dials in every time you use it, Techs now have a community laptop to use, and take home on the night they’re on call. I wonder how long it’ll be before one breaks it, and tries to pass blame on to another? I suspect we may have to have a diagnostic every time it changes hands, just to have a “CYA” situation.

Friday workday, end soon. Let the weekend begin, and extend to a realm of comfort.

UPS keeps trying to deliver my TENS unit when I’m not in… I’ve got one more try, and then I’ll have to go get it at pickup point. bah.

Just got my next payment for my sponsored linkies… That’s always a welcome email.

Heads up, you heathen monkeys! AIEEE! *Barrel toss* – A brief Race Bannon moment.

I’m getting cohorts to check soda lids for Itunes, too. I currently have another two codes.

Anyone who wants a free itunes mp3, ask away, and I’ll send the code to you via email. Nothing like totally legit music downloads for free, is there?

Thanks to juliabee for pointing my eyeballs to this entry about how lj is going to booby-bop the blogspam. Thanks lj_maintenance!

I really don’t have a big problem with serial adders per se, but it would be nice to shake off the old briar-journals that still exist, but that the owner has seemingly left long abandoned. I *do* like the “goatvote” concept… leaving links to arguments pro-con a given concept, for management to evaluate… better than just a yes/no gig. From the entry

“we’re not seeing how many votes each position can get. Our final decision won’t be based on the position with the highest votes. Rather, we want everybody who cares about this issue to go recommend what position statements we should read (possibly one of your own) and we’ll consider the best arguments for each position before making our final decision (or possibly putting up another GoatVote with revised options).”

I personally think that hiding the “friends of” list is good enough for instances of folks that don’t want to be associated with any ol’ person that adds ’em.Site Meter

Happy Kitty with 7 ears.

Cool thing about GrayPumpkin… he remembers incidental music from classic TV very well. Gilligan’s Island, Star Trek, I Dream of Jeannie and The Saint all have really great flow background themes as well as the main tune. Game Show countdown timer music is pretty keen, too.

Dang… Clown Sweater gets around.

The Printed Ephemera collection at the Library of Congress is a rich repository of Americana. In total, the collection comprises 28,000 primary-source items dating from the seventeenth century to the present and encompasses key events and eras in American history.

6510 – owie-back

back’s been problematic for about a week to two weeks, just when I get up in the morning.

Today it was especailly rough, maybe because I didn’t have time to take a hot shower.

no more PT, until it gets approved, call liberty today, and find out about that, the TENS unit, and the brace.

perhaps that’s what UPS has been trying to deliver, but failing at.

new names on the mailboxes not sure what that’s about… hopefully I won’t have to worry too much, considering the odds of my moving soon are high.

6509 I’m still full from last night, and there’s leftovers in the fridge!

Stressful week at the ranch so far, but nothing insurmountable. The crazy-chicken mindset is highly contagious, until you recognize what it is, and then stomp it flat.

I’ve got mixed feelings about visiting bro on Saturday, but I am please to say that he sounds a lot clearer and solidly thinking. not only is he without xanax or booze, but he is also cigarette free, soda free, and sodium free, considering the food.

Other benefits of being in jail… he gets a TB test, AIDS test, and his tooth looked at. He told me that he read through a 200 page book yesterday, and he’s reading whatever comes by on the library cart. I wonder if jail is the best thing that could’ve happened to him. apparently I can’t bring him clothes, but he can buy a sweatshirt, socks and such through the commissary.

Lucky, healthy thoughts for sedefendendo.

There’s a new Teen Girl Squad “What’s her face” is my favorite.

Strongbad 99, too.

I made “chicken parm” with tofu for dinner the other night. it turned out pretty good! I used the following recipe… can’t take credit for it, it was given to me by a veggie mailing list.

Tofu Chicken Parm… tasty, and no creature maybe little Ish would like to try it?

6508 morning time again?

I wonder how folks who actually know me in the flesh feel about reading some of the more sensitive elements of my life lately. Some things that I’d probably have made filtered in the past, I haven’t really bothered to lock up. I may later, depending on my mood reflecting back… but I suspect it won’t change anytime soon. I wonder where my mind will be when I look back in a year or three and see what’s been going on.

I did have a nice email banter with both GP and Katt last night about gastronomic hoodlums, giant ants and drowned uppity townsfolk.

ADP gets another F for night 2 on call. I gave her a 20 minute buffer to do the right thing, and launch community alerts, and she failed, despite telling me multiple times that she’d get things done right.

How to Make a Zombie

I have to remember to call and cancel to goof-off party with Kev on sat. we’ll have to have IHOP some other time. Maybe the week following?

ADP Gets an F for her first night. Her computer was too slow and it took her 2 hours to launch a 10 minute job. I’m going to see if I can send her home with a laptop tomorrow…hopefully that’ll speed her up. Otherwise, she’s got no future as a tech. She seemed more interested in getting a full night’s pay than the safety of a child…because of that I feel that she needs a priority adjustment, and quick. She’s not selling used books here.

Beverly Hills Cop was on last night…I forgot how fun that movie is. A fine flashback to 1984. A good year for movies. Gremlins, Terminator, Dune, Spinal Tap, Ghostbusters. Made for me being a happy freshman/sophomore in high school.

6504 – email update – bro

Just spoke to the pre-trial office, they said bro was denied the pre-trial(which
puts them on house arrest or release until trial date) because of the
outstanding offence. I spoke to the public defenders office and he said the
judge assigns a public defender at his arrainment. I asked how long that would
be,he said up to 30 days.Looks like he’s stuck there until it comes up. He can
call the nurse and they will supply any inhalers or other non-contraband
medicine he might need.
