Sailor’s Quest
It was the usual sunny day on Nada, but the event was not so sunny. A young man, tall and blonde, was washed up on the shore. He was obviously a sailor … obviously in trouble. But not much else was known about him. He was lost, alone, and his mind was totally blank concerning his past.
The citizens of Nada made him as comfortable as possible, but they saw the fear and emptiness in his eyes. And they all sought to find out where this man had come from … who he was … and what terrible secret gave him such fear in the night.
If you visit him on Nada, you may be able to help him find some answers. He is staying in a hut not far from an old shipwreck.
There he was, tall and tanned, strong and able-bodied. He sat at the door whittling with his well worn knife. Skills and talents came back to him, but not a bit of his memory had returned. Occasionally he would whistle a sad tune and sometimes he would sing the lyrics .. all about a bright star.
Old Mother Ikuni took good care of him. He was well fed, and he kept the household well stocked with fish. But there was sadness in his eyes.
His days passed well, for the most part. Mama Ikuni said he had been upset only once when a great red crab was caught in his net. There had been many crabs … it was more the color that had triggered his fear.
Correct. A messenger arrived for Mama Ikuni. Some wreckage had washed ashore in the village of Incognito. Mama asks if you will be willing to investigate. The messenger is keeping the wreckage at a site near the home of Viv in Incognito. Secret Letter: x
Sailor’s Quest 2
A young boy, Dana, points you to the wreckage, but you can’t tell much. You wonder if everything is here. All you see is a piece of driftwood that could be from a ship. You examine it closely and see a number 5 carved into the wood.
Clue #2 Sailor’s Quest
Correct. The boy tells you that it was his older brother who found the wreckage. He is away. Seems he lost control of his hangglider and is now digging it out of the dunes near Pinnacle Hill. Secret letter: l(as in letter)
Sailor’s Quest 3
Dusty was up to his arm pits in … well .. dust! But he had time to talk with you. The only other thing that had washed ashore at Incognito were some smaller pieces of driftwood and a wooden keg of ale. Dusty had shared that with some of his hang gliding buddies. But there was one other thing …
Clue #3 Sailor’s Quest
Correct. While Dusty and his buddies were drinking and swapping tales, one of them mentioned that he had seen a ship go down. The man kept watch up on top of the nearby red clay hill. The rock outcrop on the top is referred to by some as Stonehenge. Secret letter: C
You find Dusty’s friend Peter up at Stonehenge. He tells you that when he spotted the ship, it was already underwater. He could see some rafts floating off in the distance, but the ship was a total loss. He had been out to the ship once, but he didn’t find much.
Clue #4 Sailor’s Quest
Correct. Peter has a picture that shows you where the wreckage can be located. Before he can show it to you, the picture drops a little down the cliffside toward the sea. Look for it there. Secret letter: s
Sailors Quest: 4a
You find the picture and examine it closely. The dark spot in the sea seems to be the shipwreck Peter mentioned.

You swim out to the shipwreck and dive down to the wreckage. Not much is left. There is a ship’s safe, but the lock will not open without a combination. You can see from the wreckage that the ship was named Sunset.
clue 5

clue 6
You find the old fisherman, Novak, mending his nets. Captain Konig is by his side. You describe the shipwrecked sailor to him, but he is not at all sure which of his men it could be.
“My records are all on the ship,” he said. “Most are in the strong box. But I can’t remember the combination. I remember that the largest number was first. The two repeated numbers were together. And the smallest number was not last. OH, and the first three numbers had a sum of 13.”
You are not entirely sure the captain is telling you the truth. He seems to have something to hide.
Correct! The captain mutters something about his men sailing off in differerent directions. Unfortuantely you have no compass. Then Novak had an idea. Come with me to the top of Nene Volcano. I can show you how to navigate from there. Secret letter: e
clue 7
Novak explains that the only way to get current compass bearings is by the tower at the top of the volcano. It points to North, South, East, and West.
“This land has a very peculiar physical phenomena at present, ” Novak explained. The clouds are stationary and one can navigate by the clouds.
You took some time to make some shots in various directions.
Clue #7 Sailor’s Quest
Right you are! The captain remembers that he had carved all the numbers of the combination on various parts of the ship’s railing. But when the ship hit the tiny island, the deck fell apart. His men grabbed what they could of the deck and railing and sailed off into various directions: N, E, SE, NE, NW. You wonder if you can find any of these crewmen. You decide to go back to the shipwreck and follow their paths out to sea. Secret letter: e

Sailor’s Quest 9
You find Carl Able who has been keeping an eye out for trouble. Sure he left carrying a bag, but it contained only bread. And yes, everyone knew the captain was carrying a treasure. But Carl Swears he didn’t steal it. You can see no evidence to prove him a liar.
Clue 9 Sailor’s Quest
Right you are. Able admitted that he saw Eberhardt trying to get a job with the new Island tours. So at least one more of the sailors made it to land. He doesn’t know who the shipwrecked sailor could be, but he knows Eberhardt has black hair.
“You might ask him though. New Island Tours is just down the hill from here toward the north.”
Secret letter: d

was given to him by Ross Cannon. It was hush money for keeping him silent about some snooping he caught Ross doing.
Clue 10: Sailor’s Quest
Right! Eberhardt explains that Ross came into the village to stock up on supplies. He was heading toward the desert. First he needed some cash. He got a job chopping wood in a forest near Upper Tiki valley. You might find him there. Secret letter: l (as in Letter).

Sailor’s Quest 13
You search the campsite but see no trace of Ross Cannon. You wonder who he could have been trying to signal.
Excellent. You search harder and find a letter addressed to Ross Cannon. Someone asked to meet him in Scirocco. Secret letter: A
Sailor’s Quest 14
In Scirocco, the few grizzly strangers there were all collected for a funeral. It seems Charles Boise was dead. Hannibal, the undertaker, tells you Boise was killed by Ross Cannon after they had a dispute. Hannibal is pretty sure they used to be shipmates.
Clue 14: Sailor’s Quest
Correct: Ross was last seen heading west along the canyon rim. He was running as fast as he could go. Maybe he was running from the law. Or maybe he was running TO something. But whichever, he was running fast, and as far as he could go toward Duda point … but odds are he didn’t stop there. I bet he went just as far as he could go. Secret letter: i
Sailor’s Quest 15
Ross was here all right. He got into a scuffle with a hand from the ship Vesper. Bad lot that crew … most believe they are smugglers and thieves. But Ross and the hand, a tall guy by the name of Chris Engle, may have known each other. They fought and Engle took something from him. Ross was badly cut in the fight. Doc had to put 37 stitches in that scar on his face.
Clue 15: Sailor’s Quest
Right! In the scuffle, Engle dropped a map. When Ross saw it, he took himself out of the sick bed and headed out. I guess the map showed him where to go. Oh, you want to see the map? Look over there on the west side of the rocks. Secret letter: r
Sailor’s Quest 15a
You examine the map below to discover Engle’s destination.
http://trishbaker.com/there/newislands1a.jpg
Sailor’s Quest 16
You follow the map to a deserted spot where Chris Engle lay dying. It seems this time he came out on the worse end of a scrap with Ross Cannon. He confesses that he had been on the raft with Roscoe Armand and killed him for the gold he had on him … for that he is very sorry. But he has no guilt about stealing Ross’s treasure, after all, Ross stole it from the Captain, and the Captain stole it too. At least that’s how the story goes.
Clue 16: Sailor’s Quest
Correct. “Ross took a map from me,” Chris explained. “I know he will be looking for a ship. Try the other side of the little island in the bay here. That is where my captain was docked.” Secret letter: l (as in Letter)
Sailor’s Quest 17
When you reach the other side of Taco Island, you realize you have missed the ship. But in a few days time, the Vesper returns and you get a chance to speak to the First Mate known as Hagglin’ Harry.
Harry tells you that both Charles Boise and Chris Engle had signed on as mates. They stuck together and were often heard whispering about a great treasure … trying to figure out where it may be. Charles jumped ship during a night watch and was never seen again. Then after a port at Duda Island, Chris had returned to the ship all bloodied and more secretive than ever, and now he was missing.
Ross Cannon .. yes he signed on here too, but he didn’t last long. He went with us for a short run to the islands up north, but he left ship in the night. I saw him checking out a map before he left.
Clue 17: Sailor’s Quest
Right you are. Harry points out to you where he saw Ross digging after he left the ship. He draws a map for you. You examine it .. but the light is better a bit southeast of here. Step over that way and you can see it better. Secret letter: none
Sailor’s Quest 17a
You see a map of two islands that Harry tells you are north of here. Don’t leave this island without reading the clue card.

Sailor’s Quest 18
You find nothing but a hole in the sand … and a letter.
Dear Ross,
I am writing to you and your cousin in the hopes that my letter will reach one of you. Your uncle has died. You boys need to return home as quickly as possible.
He never recovered from the blow that fell him when Captain Konig betrayed him. I am left with nothing, and I need you boys to come home.
Aunt Marian
Clue 18: Sailor’s Quest

Sailor’s Quest 19
“Yes, friend,” Ross made it back here. And he brought a treasure with him. I remember so clearly when he set out to sea. There were three of them, that tall red-haired Cameron Dunkirk, Ross who had lived with us since my sister and her husband died , and my own son. ”
“Oh, I fear my boy is lost! He was so handsome, tall and blonde. He used to sit here and whittle with his father as they watched the sea. His dad would tell him tales of the ocean and a great red ruby that he called the Bright Star.”
Clue 19: Sailor’s Quest
Correct. The lady by the tree reaches into a nook in the tombstone and pulls out a giant red ruby that glows as if it had a bright star within it. My husband died because his partner stole this from him. My nephew Ross returned it to me and then left. I think he might be in trouble with the law. Return my boy to me, she says, and you will be rewarded. You are happy to know that you have found the identity of the lad and can return him to his mother. She tells you that you will find your reward down the hill east of the palm. But to claim your prize, you must unscramble the letters you have found and report the name on the tombstone.
