7941 – Big Bird dies from Big Avian Flu

GeotargetDan, Jan, Russ, Beck and I had a reasonably groovy day yesterday.

We had lunch at Red Lobster… They make a pretty good baked ‘tater there, but I did feel a little sad for the tanked sea-bugs.

As for Arsenic & Old Lace, the play started slow, but was quite fun by the end. The kids did a good job overall, but I’m still not sure why they had a bunch of girls dance to a Bette Midler tune as an opener. It was entertaining, but didn’t quite mesh with the dark humor of the rest.

On the way back, we went past an expensive community.. (Homes going for $5 mil and thereabouts) and we started discussing who had that kind of money. My comment of “mostly folks that did something either illegal or immoral (or inherited it from someone that did something illegal or immoral)”. Beck didn’t like my saying that *AT ALL*, commented that it was a very twisted belief and many folks work very hard for their money and that I’m a terrible person for even suggesting otherwise. It was such a heartfelt statement of distress, I couldn’t help but snicker a little. Ah well, some points lost with Danny’s ma. Dan’s Pop still seems to think I’m pretty cool.

D & j’s finches are very cute, tiny peepy birds. Also, they have a huge iguana living out in his back yard, too. I’d guess he’s about 3ish foot long.

We rode back to my neighborhood and took a little walk down Las Olas.. and stopped off for a drink at Rino’s. Allison, our server was *amazingly* knowledgeable, and took care of the drinks well…but I think I still would’ve preferred a trip to the poorhouse. (I don’t think that Jan would’ve been very comfy there, however.)

What is Black Friday?
Black Friday is the day AFTER Thanksgiving. This is usually the day that kicks off Winter/Christmas sales, so most stores have their best deals today. Usually such great deals that people will camp out overnight to be sure to get whatever is on sale. Is it worth the $50 in savings? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It’s how much you value your time. It’s one thing to wait to get the item, it’s another thing to have to wait in line to actually purchase that item.

So, are these really what’s on sale? How do I take advantage of this knowledge?
First off, the items posted to be on sale are just *cough*rumors. For legal purposes, they are just pure speculation *cough**cough* But don’t be too surprised if you find out that the ad matches what is on this page With this information, avoid the holiday rush and waking up before 5am to get that certain item. Simply go to the store before Thanksgiving, buy the item, then on Black Friday (November 25th) go into the store and price-match (buy and rebuy) your item back for the new advertised price. Make sure you buy your item near Black Friday though, because some stores have policies where they will only match their own price 30 days after you bought the item. Not a huge deal now, but for future reference.

Personally, I’m not buying anything that day, but I love this sort of espionage type thing.

“MY MIND” by Chubby Checker :MP3

Chubby Checker may have told us to do the Twist, but while we were doing that, he went to Holland, smoked a lot of pot, and recorded a single called “Stoned In the Bathroom”. The flip, “My Mind” (MP3) is found on the new Toytown compilation of obscuro psych, called Nightmares At Toby’s Shop, findable via Forced Exposure – via

7939 – Sunday, Sunday…

GeotargetWell, moving yesterday just didn’t work out. U haul broke down, late meeting, and Dan wasn’t feeling well. We rescheduled for Friday morning, the day after Thanksgiving.

Today I’m going with Dan, his wife and his parents to his school’s production of Arsenic & Old Lace… I’m really looking forward to it, as I get along very well with his parents. I was going to hit the Miami Book Fair, but the rain is making that a bad idea.

Looks like Gamma’s going to cut sofla some slack! It’ll still be a rainmaker, I think.

Old Picture of Newt with a predator face on.

Cute-Newt hunter face, 11 seconds later.

A google image search on Scottobear returns 960-ish images… the vast majority of which are of Newtie.

uberbastard was rolling through town, but the timing wasn’t right for a get together…he was cool to give me a call and toss me a friendly wave, however. Maybe a strongbow at the poorhouse is in order next time!

I still have to call Wendy up and see what’s happening with the dinner party thing in the near future.

PLH, Dear journal!

7938 – Rain, Rain, you don’t have to go away, just be gentle!

GeotargetFound out the my last living Grandmother (Momster’s Momster) is in hospice now. She’s deteriorated quite rapidly, and they don’t know if it’ll be two months or two weeks. She’s not in any pain, and seems to be at peace. Her lucidity is variable.. she was sounding good last week, and recognized her son and granddaughter… she gets her hair and nails done, and appears to enjoy that.

Not moving *all the way* in today, just getting the bulk of stuff over. Mr. N and I will remain at the old place for another week while the bathroom gets finished…I’d rather kick back ion a realm with running water and a potty. So, I’m going to have to put Newt in bathroom lockup while the truck gets loaded…he’s not going to be too keen on that, but the boy’ll cope. I like the idea of sliding into the new place gently.

Tropical Storm Gamma… it’s following Wilma’s track. hopefully it’ll ease up before it gets worse. Nice Thanksgiving gift! The upside… not nearly as much loose stuff to blow around this time!

Fortunately Sandrino says “Its only a tropical storm and it will be moving very fast. I wouldn’t worry too much. It’s not going to ge in the Gulf of Mexico and even if, the ocean is not as hot as it was four weeks ago. Relax.”

7936 –

GeotargetWell, let’s see.

Danny and I will be moving me into my new place tomorrow, after the office meeting. It’s pretty much complete… I just have to seat the new toilet and sinks in the restroom.

Speaking of the toilet, I’ve been pondering putting in “Bull Shannon” level furniture… make everyone else who comes over feel a bit like a hobbit-sized critter. (The commode I picked up is about 18 in. high.) Maybe not make it out of concrete, but large, overstuffed chairs a person could get lost in might do the trick.

GeotargetPost six weird and random facts about yourself, then at the end, list the names of five other people who are next in line to do this.

   1. I very nearly became a professional clown, and actually got a scholarship to clown college back in the day. I opted out because I figured I’d make more money doing less physical labor in the computer field, and sometimes wish that I had run off to the circus, especially with Paige and Michelle. I wonder what P & M are up to these days? Classmated.com had Paige with a fresh last name. I still find many clown-girls mega-hot. See jenlux as an example of a gorgeous clown-gal.

( and ) I mean really. What’s not to like?

   2. My will is amazingly variable in strength… I’d make a lousy Green Lantern. On some things I’m steadfast and on others, I bend like a reed in the wind.

   3. I notice the shapes of my food, and I seem to prefer stuff that is round over things that are square. all things being equal, I prefer cylindrical or semi-circle ice to cubes. I like round pies more than square cakes. (brownies may have cookies beat.) I like sammiches more on a hoagie roll rather than on slices of bread. goldfish crackers and pretzels beat triangle and square shaped chips, generally. Baked potato is preferable to french fries. Also, curly fries beat straights.

   4. My favorite simple machine is the lever. Also, the word fulcrum makes me laugh.

   5. I’ve been given free lap dances because the strip club was cold, and I looked nice and warm. More than once, and with more than one dancer, and more than one club. Ah, the good old days of my misspent youth. I am still warm, and have a comfortable lap.

   6.  my top 10 mythical creatures of the moment –

  • Helpful shoemaker elves.
  • Giant Alligators in Sewers
  • Animated Scarecrows, especially those with pumpkin-heads.
  • Phantoms that give a useful message.
  • Werecritters (especially those that aren’t wolves… like “Were-swarm of butterflies”)
  • Chupacabras
  • Zombies (and subset – Mummies)
  • The Boogie man.
  • Nessie & other lake dinosaurs
  • Yeti (and subset Sasquatch/Skunk ape)

I’m not tagging anyone, but I’d like to see the meme fly.

GeotargetFor giggles, I vanity-searched my lj-name on google. about 41,600 responses. in yahoo, I got about 38,100. Interesting, for a search word that is unique to me.

Got to gab a bit with Whims for the first time in an age…It was so nice to hear from her. We always talk food, and with thanksgiving coming up, we just went piggie-talk crazy!

A bunch of vanity publishing firms have been contacting me, xlibris and others. Funny that they refer to me as Raj, so they must’ve bounced in via my journal. Sent to every email address listed in my bio page, too.

I still have the Frito Banditio theme popping up into my brain here and there.

Weird about the lag in the picture posts.. repeated itself twice, about 2 hours after the original post.I’ll have to make a point of waiting a bit longer before re-sending.

The people of Hialeah are idiots. (See the political record for the last 24 years.) A long term case of “we’d rather have corrupt criminals we know than a possible unknown quantity”.

Big Kahuna’s B’day today… maybe that’s why she had a case of the grumps yesterday. She’ll be 67 today, I think, and I figure that she’s got a solid two decades ahead of her, at least. Sadly, I don’t see more than a decade (and that’s probably generous) for her husband though.

Rhode Island was due back on Monday, and as of end of day yesterday still hadn’t come back. Rumors flying over the office of her quitting, but I doubt it. My suspicions are that she’s just stretching it out as far as possible.

I’m wondering what to do with my vacation.

Muslim Mona quit tech-work yesterday… I guess her real-world job, plus family, plus health just didn’t allow for four days a month. She’ll be missed… was probably the most competent tech I had. En’s really solid, too…only a couple of boo-boos here and there. Phoenix’s getting her first training today at 1pm, barring schedule issues.

Growing out the goat for a full beard again in prep to be a bit of a Santa for December.
