6786 – politics, monsters, training

Brother, can you spare a job? A cartoon in classic old style, featuring narrative audio by GWB.

Want to know where I currently stand, politically, dear journal? Well, it’s like this.

The “anyone but Bush” mindset is one I can’t support. I know that I certainly don’t much care for the man… But is Kerry any better? Every time I hear him speak, my opinion of him drops. His only selling point to my mind right now is “well, he’s not Bush”. That’s not valid enough. Is he going to do anything for the environment? I haven’t heard. Stance on big business? I don’t know, for sure. Is he really the lesser of two evils… I don’t have enough quantitative evidence to know. If I played the odds and was forced to pick, it’s *likely* that Kerry’s a better guy, just because Bush’s policies are horrid to my mind… but likely isn’t good enough. I’d like to know one way or the other.

All I’ve seen so far is “Nyah-nyah” crap debate, and it makes me unhappy with any choice that can be made.

Will I vote? Oh yeah. Will I adore who I vote for? Oh, no.

New Citizens Say GOP Took Away Their Right To Choose

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Dario Cruz has lived in the United States for 16 years, but just became a citizen last week as he and about 200 other immigrants were naturalized.

One of the things he had always wanted to was register to vote, but when he was offered the chance to do that right outside the ceremony, he knew something wasn’t right — the place on the form where you’re asked to choose Democrat, Republican or independent was already filled out. Made plans set in sand (if not stone) to go see I, Robot with Dan on Thursday… I’m going to go in, with Asimov-free bias. I just want a fun sci-fi / action movie with robots. I think Will Smith can pull that off. If I want Asimov-tight story, I’ll watch Bicentennial Man.

It surprises me how aggressive women can be to other women, watching a dynamic where the people are primarily female gives an interesting vantage. Cliques, backstabbing, and political friendships pop up much more quickly from what I’ve seen. I’ve observed this once prior, when I worked at the library, ages ago.

60 years ago today, Operation Valkyrie was attempted. (An assassination plot against Hitler via a time bomb.) I wonder how things would’ve turned out if it had succeeded?

It’s also the 35th anniversary of the moon landing… I also wonder how things might’ve turned out if that failed?

6784 – cliche dueling

My counter to “the squeaky wheel gets the grease” is “the nail that sticks out gets hammered down”.

One of my techs needs to watch their step and mouth… too much flapping lip and attitude.

Got something to say? Fair enough. Make yourself heard in a proper venue and suggestion area! If the idea’s a thought to be a good one and presented well, it’ll probably get implemented.

If it’s *not* considered to be a good idea, and you’re given perfectly valid reasons why… shut yer piehole, and be done with it. Please don’t piss and moan about it, and don’t keep resubmitting the idea once it’s been shot down multiple times.Site Meter

6775 a die-lemma.

Hmmm… do I risk the rain, and take a journey to the Seaquarium today? I have to decide if I want to journey that far South again. Upside, I might get some spiffy pictures from the metrorail, if nothing else.

To get there, I’m going to take the 55 to the central term, from there to the Lauderdale Tri-Rail station … then take Metrorail to Brickell Station. From there take Bus B to Key Biscayne, this will drop me off in front of the park. MapPublic Transportation Trip Planner

I’ll percolate on it for an hour and decide then.

Meantime, here’s a happy mind flayer, enjoying his breakfast.

Random Scotto factoid: I’ve never liked using blue ink, especially from a ball-point pen. I think it has an odd look about it, and black has much better contrast. Red’s ok in small doses… valentines or highlighting errors. I don’t mind “fun” colors like purple or green.

I wonder how that blue caught on? Is it cheaper? Was it really fun and different when first released? It seems to be the color of choice at schools.

I have very small handwriting. Depending on my mood and level of weariness, it can go from fair to totally illegible.
