Lots of local construction, but I never hear the hammers or workers.
Things just sort of grow here.

Nice Freebie Gothic / horror fonts – also links to classic Eerie Comics. (I actually had the issue with “Swamp Monsters” in it. Warning, may not be safe for the squeamish.

I now work with one of the Florida Marlins, a retired Miami Dolphin, and Kenny Rogers’ brother. Somehow, if we all walked into a bar, there would have to be some kind of wacky punchline at the end.

I have to ask how Kenny feels about the drunken, mentally deficient, kitten-eating MadTV representation of him.(see also, KR’s Jackass – big file, let it buffer a bit)

Woo-hoo! my littler-big-sis hooked me up with a Seal-tooth,a familiar-building method to make use of it, and a lovely-large load of meat for use in KoL. Funzies! Thanks, ldy!

nifty! (via flying_blind, by way of waning_estrogen.)

In HoL, I’m now a level 3 Frog Director. The spooky forest is nifty.

You can get a skewed perspective on human behavior working at the gig that I do. A sampling of policemen (both good and bad), a few menopausal co-workers, folks with dementia, sexual predators, troubled kids, messed up families and the like could make a lot of people jump to the assumption that everyone on the planet is somehow off-balance, and not only by a little bit.

My mindset is to look at it like I’m a fireman… sure, I see a lot of houses on fire, but people don’t call when there *isn’t* a fire…. it’d be a fool who thinks all buildings are burning, everywhere.

I’m glad that there are co-workers and cops that are solid and on top of their game to reinforce this belief. (Not to mention swell folks outside the industry.)

I still would gladly see proved child molesters tossed onto a penal work-island for life. There’s no reprogramming them without falling into the “cruel and unusual” category of brainwashing/torture that I know of, so the next best thing is to isolate them, until a cure is found… in my opinion. I don’t think that a well-run penal colony is cruel or unusual for “unreformable” criminals. Make whatever counseling is deemed appropriate available, but also make them work for their keep.

The Kingdom of Loathing – pretty nifty online rpg. About. I’m a Level 2 turtle trainer.

Hooray for Bollywood Torrents! Hum Tum is pretty nifty, for a he-said / she-said sort of movie.

Word of warning… surfing for a website for the above movie gave my mozilla a case of vbs.redlof.a. My Systems combo of Norton Antivirus and MSIE seemingly has immunity, due to caching differences.

According to Wired,

322 municipalities and four states — Alaska, Hawaii, Maine and Vermont — have Patriot Act resolutions… calling on Congress to repeal or change parts of the USA Patriot Act that, activists say, violate constitutional rights such as free speech and freedom from unreasonable search and seizure.

Check to see if your region is one of the 322.

He usually says “mer?”

I think I’ll go to the Seaquarium some Saturday soon. I want to see one of the baby manatees before he’s returned to the wild, but the rehabilitation pools understandably aren’t open to the public.

Want to sponsor a baby manatee?

Come to think of it, it’s so warm out lately that I bet there’s a number of manatees just up the street. I’ll have to swing by and see.

The term “coagulated blood” is on my mind today. I’m not sure why.

I could go for a Twinkie right now… or some angel food cake with strawberry preserves. And have a dip in a nice freshwater lake. And a smooch from my sweetheart. Throw in some shade-trees over that lake.

Nice.

Dan’s changing the color scheme of his website. I think it looks fairly nice and cheery as-is, even though the colors were slapped in quickly, just to show him how the boxes delineate. I can see him going with a monochrome blue… and I don’t see it looking as fun.

Wow, Rob works fast. He already posted my findings to his site, and about bunch of other locations, too.

No big outdoor journey today… the allure of air-conditioning and slacking overtook me this time around. Played way too much CoH, caught up on my reading, and wrestled with a happy little Newt for a few hours.

Dinner tonight is cinnamon applesauce, green beans, and riblets. good stuff. Not sure why, but I’m feeling a little bleh today, even though I’ve taken it easy. On call all day tomorrow, so we’ll see what that brings, besides delivery Chinese food.

6765 I’m hot-blooded, check it and see…

my body’s thermostat seems out of whack… my core temperature is overheating a lot when I’ve first awakened the last couple of mornings. It generally passes within the first half hour of being up.. but what is that, hot flashes?

cockeyed.com has been consistently entertaining to me for years now. I’ve always dug the “How Much is Inside” and other articles… (don’t even get me started on herbalife MLM scams…I yank those signs down every time I see one.), and is where I first discovered the 3-servings per container ramen factoid, to boot.

I just fired off a set of images to Rob over there, helping him to document locations of known spammers. The one I tracked down,

BVM
6278 N. Federal Hwy Suite 187
Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33308

was in actuality a Mailboxes, Etc., and not a real office.

I took pictures of the outside, the “suite” in question, which was really just a mailbox, and the ID stuff on the back of one of the MBE fliers. It was a lot of fun to go out on a little ninja mission like that, even if it turned out not to be an actual spammer’s place of business.

Note to self… next mission, rather than using the satellite map to draw up directions, actually gather intel on the area.

Upon my return from the trip, I stopped off at my nearby sub shop, and the guy had *ANOTHER* black eye. I wonder what he does to get ’em?

6764 – just in re: condo –

via my real estate contact –

I think the broker has presented multi offers and maybe possibly a cash offer with a quick closing, hard to tell, I have to call him 2x a day to see what’s happening. I just left him a message that I have brought him a full priced offer from a qualified buyer, please give me a response today. got to wait unfortunately.

If they got someone to drop full price with cash, I’m probably out of luck… otherwise, I’m in the running.

[update: – Well..it bit the dust, just as I thought a full price cash offer came in with a 4 week closing so the seller took it,I will continue to look and let you know whats new ]

6762 – music, people watching, and pizza.. a decent night.

Went out to pizza with Danny, and had a nice long session of talking and people-watching. there’s a lot on his mind lately, and I hope that the pressures ease up. I think he’s going to have to come to some major decisions regarding work, and soon.

ADP let me down in a big way last night…couldn’t remember after three reminders and having written it down. I don’t know what to do about her. Everyone’s entitled to mistakes, but hers are consistent. If she can’t be relied upon to do it, I’ll launch sexual predator calls myself, if need be. I’m glad I thought to call and ask if the job was launched, or they’d not have gone out at all, rather than late.

6761 – Socknapper

Man Accused of Stealing Boy’s Socks

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A man accused of grabbing a 9-year-old boy, carrying him behind a Kroger store and stealing his socks has been arrested on kidnapping and robbery charges.

Maurice C. Teague told officers he has more than 500 pairs of children’s socks.

Investigating officers said they couldn’t confirm the number but said they found “a lot” of socks at Teague’s home, police spokeswoman Sherry Mercurio said on Tuesday.

Police said Teague, 28, accosted the boy Friday evening and dropped a piece of identification as he fled. They arrested him at his home on Sunday, Mercurio said. He’s jailed on $75,000 bond.

“It’s odd, obviously — someone going after little boys’ socks,” Detective Guy Patete said.

Police said the child was on his way home from the grocery around 6:30 p.m. when Teague asked to buy his socks for $5. The boy refused again when Teague offered him $10, and Teague picked him up, ran behind the store and pulled the boy’s shoes and socks off his feet.

Police said the boy picked up Teague’s identification and his mother called police. Teague, who has no criminal record, at first denied the account but then admitted grabbing the boy, police said.

6760 – museum pix, waiting for news on my condo, misc

The condo owners are out of town… silly for them to list it and not be available until later, but, whatever. I’ll know more today, I think.

Did the guy that invented combos see a snausage, and think it would be tasty for people to have a snack like that.. or was it the other way around, benefiting dogs?

Intelligent observation overheard ages ago – “Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit; wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.”

I can’t believe that a single packet of ramen noodles is considered to be “three servings”. That’s almost as bad as the “two fig newtons per serving” rule. Who decides this stuff? Very full people who aren’t so hungry and don’t like the product?

Random ramen factoids –

  • “Ramen” is the Japanese pronunciation of the Chinese characters lo mein, which means “boiled noodles.”
  • Ramen was popularized in Japan by a 17th century samurai named Mito Komon. You can see Mito’s actual ramen bowl and a reproduction of his favorite meal in the Momofuku Ando Instant Ramen Museum in Osaka, Japan. The museum that attracts 1500 visitors a day–more than Japan’s national art museum.

I’m in the mood to watch the Rockford Files again.

Random Scotto Factoid: I had trouble remembering the difference between definitions for vertical and diagonal, until I learned the word vertigo. Likewise, horizontal was never a problem, because I already knew the word horizon. I learn better by association, rather than simply by rote.
