GeotargetWoo… the King Kong marketing machine is in full swing… it’s going to be a Giant Gorilla Christmas!

I rather dig the Beijing Olympic Mascots.

Currently a bit pissed at work. only Carl Douglas and Giant Apes can cheer me up.

Everybody was kung-fu fighting
Those cats were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit frightning
But they fought with expert timing

They were funky China men from funky Chinatown
They were chopping them up and they were chopping them down
It’s an ancient Chineese art and everybody knew their part
From a feint into a slip, and kicking from the hip

Everybody was kung-fu fighting
Those cats were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit frightning
But they fought with expert timing

There was funky Billy Chin and little Sammy Chung
He said here comes the big boss, lets get it on
We took a bow and made a stand, started swinging with the hand
The sudden motion made me skip now we’re into a brand knew trip

Everybody was kung-fu fighting
Those cats were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit frightning
But they did it with expert timing

(repeat)..make sure you have expert timing
Kung-fu fighting, had to be fast as lightning

GeotargetI’d like a comfy linen/cotton blend suit, and a snappy gray fedora. Not sure where that urge for a summer suit in November came from.

I can’t watch TV shows that place in hospitals, at least not around the anniversary of my father’s death or his birthday. I had an extended crying jag last night when I remembered that his birthday is coming up in about 2 weeks. First time I’ve really cried for quite a while. Ultimately cleansing, but think I hurt my side a little bit as a result. Newt was a great comfort to me.

I miss my dad. I miss the way my brother was when he was 12. I think that I get along with my mother better these days than I ever had as a kid.

The office has decided not to pay salaried folks for time away from work due to Hurricane Wilma… I’m going to point them to Hurricane Wilma Disaster Unemployment Assistance. To determine eligibility for Wilma DUA (or standard unemployment benefits), start by contacting the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation (Florida unemployment office) or filing an unemployment claim through same by 11/28/2005. For information about other types of Hurricane Wilma disaster assistance, browse the FEMA and FDEM sites.

I’m safe… I worked every day save for 2, and those two days I gave training and tech walk-through to our rep in Texas. I think that everyone else save for ECN and myself will end up getting docked a little more than week’s pay. (I wonder if the Big Kahuna will cut herself, too?)

GeotargetI could go for a moon cake. I missed the Moon Festival about a month or two back. I may start visiting the Morikami more often again, now that I’ll be a bit closer.

Thought I saw Pam M. yesterday, but I don’t think it was her. Hard to say, since it’s been a decade or so… but I don’t think that she’s the type to ever wear tank tops and shorts in public… but who knows? A lot can happen to a person in twelve-ish years. If it had been her, I’d have liked to say hello, and have my curiosity satisfied a bit. I wonder if moving closer to the Boca area will cause me to stumble across more folks from the past? The D’s are in Georgia now, and who can say where much of the rest of that crew has toddled off to.

Well, I’ve watched the Doom Patrol/ BoE episodes of Teen Titans.. I think they did a decent job. The Brain was a little Dalek-y, but that’s reasonable. What I wasn’t expecting was a regular voice for Cliff, or the Steven Wright dry blandness of Larry. Rita was fine, and Mento was the mostly-jerk as I recall him to be. I think that Cliff’s voice as a normal gruff guy was better than a robo-sounding one. Made him a bit more human. I wonder if the Chief will show up later on?

Doing what I can to prevent world and local politics from getting me down. It’s hard. I thought the lesser of two evils was bad, four elections ago, and it’s only getting worse every time. I’ve heard from people that blindly follow Hillary Clinton, just because she’s a woman and a democrat. I’ve never seen her give a good speech…I’d have thought a lawyer would have some solid public speaking skills. She does not inspire trust. She’s not a credible military leader, and I don’t see her pulling troops out of Iraq anytime soon, regardless. I think that she could win an election in ’08, but it would be for the wrong reasons… and liberal dems would get mighty pissed, once the dust settled.

I feel that a woman or a black person could become president. (I think a military background for either would make it easier for the American Public to accept them)

I’m sure in my heart of hearts that a publicly self-proclaimed gay or atheist could not possibly win the office at this point in time.

I’m rambling. It doesn’t matter who gets elected, the giant iguanas that actually run this country wouldn’t let a prez implement any real change anyhow.

“Strange but true”-sounding lie of the day: In 103 AD, the Roman emperor Clavicus had a temple built to worship his favorite type of pastry.

Why didn’t *anyone* tell me that the Doom Patrol showed up this season on the Teen Titans? (Plus, they’re fighting the Brotherhood of Evil!) That was my big hope once I’d heard that the cartoon was launched! Once again, I thank bittorrent for speedy access to TV I’ve missed.

GeotargetGood News / Bad News, dear journal.

Good News: I have full power at my apartment. Air Conditioning and Lights, TV, etc.

Bad News: Big Brain’s Hard Drive is crapping out… I can’t seem to keep him awake for more than a moment or two before he cycles through and reboots… I’m going to estimate he needs about $400 worth of repairs… mirror the giant drives over to new drives, basically. He had started to die earlier.. I thought it was a power issue, but I see now that it’s even worse.

Good News: I dropped it off and it’s still covered under the extended warranty.. (this big brain was bought 12/21/03, and he’s got 2 years parts and labor covered – a little over a month left to freshen up – I’m also having them do a full system peek, just in case the video card is starting to crap out)

I expect to have it back at HQ within 7 working days. Meanwhile, lappie is a handy backup, just word processing and the like… no major gaming for a week or so.

I’ve begun sorting the apartment out… packing things into boxes and skimming down to the very basics. All of my books should be ready for transport by the end of the weekend.

Phoenix is going to get some training today after lunch… I think that she has some solid tech potential.

7913 – Newt got fan mail!

Dear Scotto,

I was looking online for some pictures when I came across your blog.  My boyfriend and I are planning on getting married next October and we want to have a costume wedding. I’ve decided to go as Poison Ivy (since she is the most beautiful comic character I can think of, and gosh darn it, I want to be beautiful on my wedding day).  I put “Poison Ivy and Pictures” into the search engine and came across your page.  And I’m glad I did.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to see the links you had posted (because my computer is from the iceage).  But your cat, Newton, reminds me so much of my cat, Barry Allen.  He just passed away last March and looks exactly like yours. I just wanted to let you know that I am glad to see the pictures you posted.

Happy memories are plentiful, but never quite enough.

Thanks for both the thoughts of Barry Allen and your kind and clever wit.

Sincerely,
Mandy

GeotargetSaw Phoenix as I was leaving work today… she’s currently jobless – apparently some club drama caused her to bail. We had a hug and got caught up with things. She might be preggers, too. I still don’t know what happened with Gil and co. She has a lot more freckles than I realized… I gave her a business card and offered to see if we could find her a gig as a tech (which the company needs).

Amazing how a $100,000 loan can turn into $250,000 when paid back over 30 years. The power of interest.

Lots of 4-way stops going on until late December, it seems.

State utility regulators Wednesday approved an fuel-cost increase for Florida Power & Light Co. that will hike an average customer bill by 19 percent starting Jan. 1. The increase would drive an average 1,000 kilowatt hour monthly bill up by $16.99 to $108.61, up from $91.62.

I’m on day 17 of having no A/C, no Fridge, no Big-brain computer and no stove or microwave oven. Not really a tragedy. I do fine since I have hot showers, some lights and some internet resources. Students have to make up 6 of the 11 missed school days. (shortened Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, mostly.)
