6699 – Ah, Thor heard my plea…

… Strong thunderstorms continue from Palm Beach County through
Broward County… and into far North central Miami-Dade County…

At 233 PM… the strongest thunderstorm was located 5 miles west of
State Road 27 on the Broward and Miami-Dade County line. Movement of
the storm was nearly stationary. Hail and gusty winds to 40 mph are
likely with this storm. Other storms will continue to affect much of
western Broward County into central Palm Beach County. Frequent
cloud to ground lightning and locally heavy rainfall will accompany
these storms this afternoon.

Residents near the path of this storm should remain alert for
additional statements and possible warnings.

Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio and other local media for further
details or updates.

6697 Friday…

Ok… no more entries about how flippin’ hot it is outside for a while, dear journal. That’d get pretty redundant.

I just heard about this on my expedition with Danny to the comic shop. Spooky Empire – There’s a SciFi convention this weekend… I’ll probably go, check out the dealer room, and run off again. The hotel they is rather dumpy, even for a convention (Unless it’s been upgraded in the last 2 years or so.), about 10 miles from my place. I’ll have to decide if it’s worth putting off doing laundry and condo-questing. Probably not, but maybe I’ll want a break to sniff out some bootlegs and trinkets of happiness for me and mine.

I didn’t manage to actually call GP, but I did email him, and he wrote back already.

Had to walk ADP through doing a System restore on her system, though I suspect her OS was fine. MSN sent her a message that the service was unavailable, and to try back later. Bleh. Easy enough – Run>-msconfig. There’s probably some dance-dance revolution windows path, but I prefer quick and easy.

Krystal burger joints have free wireless access? That’s weird. More Free places.

wifimaps is still my fave.. a little slow loading, it’s visually lovely, and has radii marked.

Here’s my Neck of the woods in WiGLE, NodeDB and WiFiMaps

No drivers have picked up my apartment’s open net yet.

Bro got his xbox and some games. He has $12 to find an apartment with, but he can afford a flippin’ toy.

Big Kahuna, RC and CC are all loaded with supplies, and I’m ready to kick ’em out of the nest to Michigan and Rhode Island next week.

Very Stylized Mad Mod episode of Teen Titans last night. (pic) Funny seeing some similarities between Malcolm MacDowell’s role in that, and Clockwork Orange. It wasn’t a standard episode. Lot’s of 60’s style images and such, and a Scooby-doo chase. (See Original Bad Guy stats) I never thought he’d make a comeback. Who’s next, Prez? Yango, the Super-Ape? (How many cities populated by intelligent apes are there in Africa, anyway?)

Only vaguely related. The Term “Whiz Wagon” cracks me up.

6696 quickie

Got a surprise visit from Dan yesterday.. the last one before he launches for his vacation. We got to have a nice drive and chat.. did stop-offs at the local tiki-hut, and made up a story about the people across from us… Fergie and her MI6 bodyguards… and the Big Louie’s Waitress the looked like a blend of KC, Kiersten Dunst, and a Cro-mag.

We had a pretty good day, all in all.

It was deathly hot once again outside… and pressure’s on at the office… Big Kahuna and CC are going north next week, and I have to prepare them traveling packets. I feel like Q, getting them ready, demonstrating how to use a laptop and powerpoint, putting a folder together with local internet access numbers, emergency CDs of information, and statistical reports for them to reference. Not really hard work, but fun, anyway.

I forgot to call GP yesterday… I also have to fire off my rent check today. Both of those will happen by end of day.

VS & I were targeted by someone pulling the speaker-scam at lunch. (We were walking past the bank on the way back from lunch.) I first heard about this stuff about a month ago. Man, only a sap would buy something from a van. Site Meter

I am hypnotized by this icon:

Whoosh, was it hotty-humid-hot-hot yesterday. forget Hurricane Season…Florida is officially in “Devil’s Armpit – Dagobah with pavement” Season. Thank you, Willis Carrier, for making my life more livable. This is where all the folks who deal with snow the rest of the year can do a Nelson “Ha-ha!” at folks further South.(87°F, Partly Cloudy Feels Like 97°F As reported at Fort Lauderdale, FL Last Updated Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at 5:53 PM Eastern Daylight Time. UV Index: 2 Minimal Dew Point: 75°F Humidity: 67% Visibility: 10.0 miles Pressure: 29.92 inches and falling Wind: From the South Southeast at 14 mph ) I hope it’s at least a smidgen cooler today.

Reminded by Danny – 2004 Transit of Venus (2004 Observer’s Handbook) (Tuesday, June 8, 2004 ) Transits of Venus across the disk of the Sun are among the rarest of planetary alignments. Indeed, only six such events have occurred since the invention of the telescope (1631, 1639, 1761, 1769, 1874 and 1882). The next two transits of Venus will occur on 2004 June 08 and 2012 June 06.

I’ve got to remember to call GP this afternoon.

6693 Memorial Day

Taking a shard of time to remember, honor and thank all the good people who came before. I don’t mean honoring war, but those that died in those conflicts and wars. I’m sort of extending the idea to all those that helped make the world a better place, or fought in the war of life, too. I’m very thankful that I’m of a generation that didn’t have to fight a war for freedom, owed largely in part by the generation immediately before…for that I’m thankful.

Regarding a moment of remembrance – http://www.remember.gov/

Take a Moment to Remember those Americans who gave their lives in service to their country

This Memorial Day, please pause with Americans at home and abroad to honor the men and women who died so that we might enjoy the gift of freedom. Let us never forget their sacrifice.

At 3:00 p.m., simply stop what you are doing and think for one minute about those who died for your freedom. If you are driving, turn on your vehicle’s headlights.

As you participate in the National Moment of Remembrance, you are helping reclaim Memorial Day for the noble purpose for which it was established:to honor those who died in service to our Nation. Join with the White House Commission on the National Moment of Remembrance in honoring those who have died and their families. It is a minute of reflection that everyone can spare.

Come Together – Beatles video (3-D Shockwave) pretty dang keen. Some nice touches, like Paul being barefoot, and clickable karaoke mode. (Melon Dezign are the same folks that did I Feel Fine )

HELL by JAKE AND DINOS CHAPMAN Some people do scary things with miniatures. (probably not work safe) Interesting that Hell was probably destroyed by fire.

THX1138 director’s cut is being released on DVD.

6692 – For the werewolf have pity, not fear, an' not hate.

Cam pics.

Just a nifty shot.. the cam’s motion sensor grabbed the night-scene right after turning it back on to answer a late call. The lamp is on, but the cam hasn’t caught up with the room’s full illumination yet. I know the cam isn’t faster than the speed of light.

An example of how fast Newt’s reflexes are.. note the time at the bottom doesn’t increment.. he just whips that right-hook out and bats like a flash. That’ll teach me to try to beep his nose while he’s in stalker-mode. My pointer finger is one of his favorite toys.

6689 Home again… that was quick.

Wow… DAfT was pretty weak. nice effects, but bad acting and writing. A pity.. there was some real potential there. I’d say to rent the Poseidon Adventure rather than going to see it. (Pretty nice page, too.) It’s pretty sad when Dennis Quaid can’t save a movie. He just walked through.

Dan & I were reduced to passing notes back and forth on my palmtop, and giggling like we were in high school. We wrote in red on a black background so we didn’t suffer from any pupil-shift.

Dan’s Starting commentary –

I feel no emotion for this movie. The writing is poor, etc. Now, I am only interested in the special effects.

Other comments were – Warning, spoilers.

6688 Bzzz Bzz

I think I’d like to try my hand at beekeeping.

Nice thoughts of a song I haven’t heard in ages –

Sleep my dear for the red bee hums the silent twilights fall
Aoibheal from the gray rock comes to wrap the world in thrall
A lyan van o my child my joy my love and heart’s desire
The crickets sing you lullabys beside the dying fire
Dusk is drawn and the green man’s horn
Is wreathed in rings of fog
Sheevra sails his boat till morn
Upon the starry bog
A lyan van o the paley moon
Has ringed her cusp in dew
And weeps to hear the sad sweet song
I sing my love to you
Sleep my dear for the red bee hums the silent twilights fall
Aoibheal from the gray rock comes to wrap the world in thrall
A lyan van o my child my joy my love and heart’s desire
The crickets sing you lullabys beside the dying fire

Aww, what a nice compliment from my littlerbigsis ldy… I wonder if it’ll become a meme? Dangerous, considering the naughty-word factor.

Behold! My journal has been taken over by a preteenl!

Ok, I got it back again.

Going out to lunch with Dan and his SF club for sushi in the afternoon. I’ll get a glimpse at his students and put faces to some of the names he’s mentioned. After, (if there’s time / he’s not tutoring) we might go check out The Day After Tomorrow… or Troy, if DAfT isn’t timed to start at a good time.

I’ve had a little cough recently… I hope that I’m not coming down with the flu-bug that my brother had last week.

New Stuff in CoH! (thanks, Whims!)

Ok, off to get ready for my day. I’ll catch you later, dear journal.

6686 – Payday, Friday, longish weekend ahead.

I’m delighted that the new(beta) Yahoo Messenger has integrated launch cast. Makes getting my playlists much simpler. Also, the New Yahoo toolbar for MSIE removes spyware.

Lately, I’m quite glad I don’t have tourette’s… lots of random comments that’d have gotten me in trouble today leapt to the front of my brain. (I took a bunch of digital piccies for the web site… we’ll be selling items with our logo on them.) VS is an excellent model, ADP & LH were overly vain. Right on the tip of my mind were all sorts of rude and inappropriate comments. I’d rather bark or quack out of control than yell something intelligible but hurtful.

Cool Comic strip portion recently seen

6685 – stuff

Got a nice surprise in a long, friendly, supportive phone call yesterday from someone I haven’t heard a lot from in a long time, and it really made my night. Lots of good socializing, excellent legal advice about a few things, and just general good gab. Thanks.

MIT’s OpenCourseWare – Thanks for the tip, ldy-sis!
