8393 – Cue the organ music, another week has begun.

Mon-*DUN DUN DUNNNNN*-day. Another morning meeting o’doom, and then I contend with Semi-annual and quarterly statistics for funding. Tedious, but the bean counters will leave me alone while I assemble the stats.

Random word generator – plus

Moment of Lyric – (link to copy, right?’s page hosting it)

I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
She’s coming in 12:30 flight
The moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation
I stopped an old man along the way
Hoping to find some long forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say, “Hurry boy, it’s waiting there for you”

8391 – Getting ready to switch over to being on-call.

I don’t only use the word “fantastic”, I’m not always using it in a positive light *or* being snarky. If someone tells me of an idea that is totally out of left field, I’ll refer to it as fantastic, meaning it was borne of fantasy. Something can be fantastic, and terrible.

Likewise, when I hear the term “horsefeathers” my mind immediately thinks of a pegasus.

Hoppy Bunny of adorableness!

Thank you, Cute Overload and Theremina!

These little finger-people are cute, too.

Moment of Lyric – (mp3 via fallentoad)

we have sinned so many times before
we see no need to turn back now

we’re the world, the wicked world
marching to hell
we know what we’re doing
we’re marching to hell

come and join us have some fun
dance in joy beneath the neon light

we’re the world the wicked world
we do whatever we please
forget your cares sow your wild oats
sin is a wonderful disease

lie and steal, it’s all right
we have no worry for tomorrow

we’re the world, the wicked world
we don’t believe in God
we don’t believe in anything
we find that idea to be rather odd

we pain ourselves as our bodies start to decay
we’re getting closer every day
we have sinned so many times before
we see no need to turn back now

we know what we’re doing, we’re marching to hell

8390 – Porch entry

Warm, still air on the balcony this morning. Newt’s lazing on the edge of the table, and we’re both enjoying sounds of the outdoors. The fountain in center of the lake, a light variety of birdsong, and Blackie having an argument with Faraday while I type on lappie’s mushy keyboard.

Slacking by spending far too long on lj, catching up with my reading and commenting hither and yon, where applicable. Graypumpkin had a moment of synchronization with one of the artists for Teen Titans (and The Coming Legion of Super Heroes cartoon) over a third-rate Marvel villain by the name of Gamecock.

Well, looks like money talks… X-men 4 was greenlit.

Reined into the condo all day tomorrow – on call. Won’t have to do it next week, as EN should have all items needed in place by thenGeotarget

podcasts.yahoo.com has a dandy search engine…I’m glad it works with all browsers, now.

I could sure go for a sugary snack right about now.. a fruit pie (cherry or apple) would be tops. Hulk? Spidey? You know that sharing is important… help me out, would ya?

8389 – Saturday. similar feeling as last weekend this time.

Watched Iron Giant last night, for the first time in a few years. Still as excellent as I recalled. While it played on the TV, I unpacked a few of the boxes stowed by the bookcases that needed weeding out. Found a bunch of old Legion Comics which distracted me for a bit while I put ’em in order and put them at the bottom of the linen closet, for the lack of a better temperature-controlled location. Followed up with The Swarm. (An Irwin Allen Sci-fi stinko classic featuring Michael Caine shooting bees from his eyes.)

Cleaning Lady comes by today… after she’s done, I’ll probably go walkabout for a bit, if the weather’s right. I think a walk along the beach might be in order.

Cinnamon toast for breakfast! First time I’ve made it in years… it always reminds me of being a little kid.

Bus stop – sunrise was like a fire boiling away clouds.. rain was happening a bit to the right.

Found a number of OTR podcasts… about 8-10 hours of classic stuff every week. Songbird is pretty handy there. Sort of disappointed in Penn Gilette’s show, so I’m almost all NPR, OTR, and Prairie Home Companion… oh, Stomp Tokyo and Marc Maron’s show. Sometimes I listen to them on the ride into/from work, while reading, and I sometimes blank out what I’m listening to.

Moment of mp3 – Cake – The Distance – It reminds me of the 90s.

8385 – Friday. Hoping for a good weekend.

Meeting with mom was interesting. We discussed bro and the new project she has with Wilton. Apparently, in her will, if she and Wilton go together, I am to be executor of the estate. That’s a lot of responsibility… bro’s share will go into a trust… he can use it for education, rehab or appropriate health expenses, but never will a dollar touch his hands, for fear that he’ll spend badly.

M&W’s company will be doing some work up in Sterling, VA (about 15 minutes from Dulles airport, or 40 min from DC) during the months of August through October, so I have a free crash spot should I want to visit points north during that time. Sally and Bill are up there, too… I can’t believe that she’s 61, and he’s 50, now. Have twenty-five years really passed that swiftly? I still remember Sally and Mom working at the salon, and my going to see Star Wars in the same plaza. Now, their kids are in the late 20s, too. I’d love to visit the old house, hit the smithsonian Air & Space museum, and visit some LJ-type folk.

I am officially one year cable-tv free. (though I cheat and snag a couple of shows via bittorrent.) Take that, comcast!

Moment of Lyric – mp3

O Fortuna,

et tunc curat
ludo mentis aciem;

8384 – I never could get the hang of Thursdays.

I am of a positive mindset in a melancholy time… got news of a quiet patch ahead, but I’m confident of things working out for the best in the long run. I hope that they’ll seem that way along the short and middle run, too.

In related news, I do believe that dreams can come true. I’ve seen it happen, and for that I’m happy. It continues to be a good week for dreams.

Lunching with mom after work, catching up on family business, and will generally gab. Remembered what was going on on Friday – maybe a get together with some old coworkers for a brew, maybe karaoke? Maybe not.. those things tend to evaporate. I want to visit with Kev again before he hits gitmo, too.

Blood donation and shots went well. I’m glad I’ve worked out a schedule where doing platelets is feasible.

Superman Slurpees at 7-11! I think Sucking the brains out of Yoda made for a better mug, but this one is nicely geeky, too. I wonder why they didn’t do this with the Batman/x-men movies?

Note to self, do not iron while sleepy… looks like I set the heat too high and treated a blend like cotton. Ah well, excuse to get a fresh shirt or two! I was more peeved that I had to iron *two* shirts, rather than carbon-scoring the first one. Better the shirt than me!

If I had posted only one entry day for each my 8384 entires… that’d be just about 23 years worth of journal posts. Yikes.

Second Life updated to 1.10.1 yesterday. No noticble change, though bug fixes:
* Improved avatar lighting to more closely match in ‘nearby lights’ and ‘sun/moon only’ modes
* Improved flexible attachment behavior while crossing a region boundary

Bro swung by work yesterday, looking for some coin “for gas”. He’s got his calendar call tomorrow, so we’ll see how that goes. He was looking much cleaner and in order than when he visited mom.

8369 – Behold, the Magnificent MAN-BEAR!

Ran out of steam yesterday…worked late, and it sort of trimmed an hour and a half off my evening schedule… tucked in at about eleven, and though I was tied, it felt like it was only about 9:30.

Midweek. Next week, I have Monday off from the office, but will have to take call all day. Mixed blessing.

Contemplating good books to read aloud to another. The Hobbit is a good one, but recently read.

Reminds me of a quote… There are worse crimes than burning books – One of which is not reading them.

Holy Cow. I just found out that the doctor form house was a character on the old Black Adder Series. Well, Hoorah! I didn’t realiseit was the same guy until his face melted off while breaking a girl’s finger. (Let’s see if I remember that episode a year from now)

Nice thoughts – Dreamt of a smoke colored cat named Ivy.

Historical Sounds in MP3 Format Nifty to hear Albert Einstein and Tomas Edison’s Actual voices. Ghandi’s voice is very unusual. Some oddball choices in there, like “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up”, too.

That’s how I’ll sound with a mouthful of crabs. (Not quite as catchy as the Dugong Song.)

8365 – two muffins are in the oven together, slowly baking.

Nice time out with mental_circles and an assortment of other lj-folks – Was surprised to see grrwoo there (I hadn’t seen him since ldy last in town, a couple of years ago), not as surprised to see sammystudio, and met some keen new folks in newbabel (Frank), _chandra (Chandra), home_grown_cl (Carol Lynn) and hedache (Baruk). Light convo and dumb jokes abounded over at the kids side of the table, good cheer was had by all – surprisingly little drama considering the diversity of lj-folks. A guitarist playing 70’s hits was faint but pleasant background noise. There were three tardy arrivals, whose names are eluding me now, in the haze of the morning light. They were cool, too, but on the other side of the table’s horizon, so regular convo with them was more difficult. Anyhow, I had a nice time at the “kids table”. Tina’s haircut is much cuter in person.

I’ll post pics later on, when I can be bothered to get up and go to the other room to get the camera. [edit:added.]

Is it wrong of me to be in support of Robbie Rotten on Lazytown?

I want to be a lazy scout. (At Least today.)

Moment of Lyric – mp3

I really like the song mostly just for the yeah yeahs and the riffs, but here’ the lyrics, anyhow.

If you could blow up the world with the flick of a switch
Would you do it?
If you could make everybody poor just so you could be rich
Would you do it?
If you could watch everybody work while you just lay on your back
Would you do it?
If you could take all the love without giving any back
Would you do it?
And so we cannot know ourselves or what we’d really do…

With all your power
With all your power
With all your power
What would you do?

If you could make your own money and then give it to everybody
Would you do it?
If you knew all the answers and could give it to the masses
Would you do it?
No no no no no no are you crazy?
It’s a very dangerous thing to do exactly what you want
Because you cannot know yourself or what you’d really do

With all your power
With all your power
With all your power

Maybe visiting with mental_circles and other nifty folk to celebrate her b’day by having Mexican food and good cheer.

Possibly going to Fairchild today to smell a stinky, but lovely tuber. Not sure if I want to drop $20 to smell rotting meat, but how often does one get to see something like that? This year’s bloom is currently at 7’1″ / 100lbs.
