Magda’s Birthday!

More allergy shots today. I have to call the primary and get more referrals for next time.

3 years ago, Danny and I discovered heroclix, and I posted the zombie picture yesterday just out of randomness.

I dreamt that I killed my older sister by accident.

To the best of my knowledge, I’ve never had an older sister.

She fell down the stairs because she tripped on a stack of books that I’d left at the top.

I don’t think I’ve ever lived in a multi-story home with a staircase like that. It sort of reminded me of Pam’s Mom’s place… I still vividly remember sleeping over there before our road trip to Disney. Right down to the dinotopia calendar. I always liked her mom… Paul, I was not to crazy about.

I have very fond memories of watching Doctor Doctor with her on the phone, and the both of us laughing our fool heads off. Really a shame that friendship fell apart.

The steps in the dream were covered with bright yellow and lime green shag carpet.

How to View the Perseid Meteor Showers

If, around August 12th, you go outside between midnight and dawn and look up for a minute or so, you’ll most likely spot a meteor streaking through the sky. The August Perseid meteors were the first that astronomers associated with a particular comet. In the mid 1860s, Italian astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli observed that Perseids followed the appearance of the Swift-Tuttle Comet.

Billy Harvey’s website has a fun interface…. I don’t normally dig arbitrary use of flash, but this works well.

To tell if you have bad breath:

1. Lick your wrist
2. Wait ten seconds for it to dry
3. Sniff your wrist

Disclaimer: Doesn’t work if your wrists normally smell bad, or if your breath smells very strongly of wrist.

The personalized google homepage is really what a portal is all about… especially since you can add feeds to it now. (plus, google has a way of making feeds based off of new searches, too) It’d be my primary web-feed reader, if I didn’t already syndicate on LJ.

Well, his time out wasn’t too long, bro was picked up by the police on a warrant. I hope the morning and afternoon out of jail was worth it to him. Well, he’s now where folks can keep an eye on him. Hopefully the warders will show more responsibility than he has. He’s not listed on the basic arrest record yet.

Visit with Danny was cut cruelly short… I had to return home to help get the network in order and to take call for a bit. We had time for a drink and some dinner, but no pirate-ship battles. Mushroom pizza, Greek salads, he had a Manhattan, I had a rum & coke. Bonus bummer is that it was his last summer day. He’s telling the sci-fi club that Fridays are out, so maybe we can spend time every few Fridays during the school year.

I really would rather not be tethered to the cell phone sometimes. It’s been quite a hassle lately.

But, enough tales of woe. It’s Friday. The Weekend is nearly here. Free buffet at the club. Time to breathe.

There was a lovely Koi river running through the regency where I had dinner last night and a couple of cute little ducks, too.

Last Summer Day with Danny today.. we’re probably going to do a little play of pirates, hang out and have some supper. He told me yesterday that he hasn’t been on the internet for about a month or more. That’d be like me not *reading* anything for a month or more… unheard of.

Had a lovely time chitty-chattin’ with weez & sedef last night, and I’m delighted that I might get another chance to see ’em sometime soon! Quite a pair of sweeties they are! (Even if they are threatening to get me a bunch of Strawberry shortcake branded stuff!)

Not nearly enough time with MP yesterday. Had supper with Danny ad Subway, and we gabbed a bit. He brought me a present of The Bard’s Tale, which was a pleasant surprise. I haven’t installed it yet, but it looks like fun. I forgot to get my Tiki Cup.

I told MP that I thought about her snuggled close when I went to sleep at night. She replied playfully “you don’t think about me during the day?” and gave me a triple-threat smooch. (both cheeks, and then on the kisser.) She’s flattered when I wear the cologne she got me. She also told me that she didn’t want me to suffer while she’s gone.. I’ll be pretty cool, I think, as long as she heads back to the states in Sept like she plans. I’ll be fairly peeved if that doesn’t come to pass.

Bro talked to me, and he told me that he hadn’t seen me put on my rage-face on like I did when that whole almost-fight happened en route to the bus station. I haven’t had to manhandle my bro in ages, and I think he was surprised when I kind of pulled him out of the way and intervened between him and the other guy.

There’s a part of me that *really* wanted to commit violence on the BS-guy. Pounding the devil out of him, and taking a few hits would’ve been cleansing. That sort of behavior is wholly inappropriate, but the caveman inside would’ve been happy for a few minutes.

I wouldn’t mind a sparring partner or a good long session smacking the heavy bag.

Forehead Inflation. – via temporary saline injection – Maybe not for the squeamish.

I’ve got the Nairobi Trio playing Solfeggio in my head over and over. That’s not necessarily a bad thing.

I miss the Ernie Kovacs show.

What the heck… over 800 hits yesterday on the easter manatee entry? What’s causing folks to go back to the end of march back to tag it? it’s not direct picture links.. it’s the entry itself. different locations, assorted browsers… and it’s not from google or yahoo search. no referral links.

Tropical Storms Cindy and Dennis may be on the way? Seedling hurricanes.

7457 – Friday! Hoo-ray!

Didn’t make it for Moroccan food (no belly dancers until Saturday), so we did Thai/sushi instead, and then went to the club. The iced chai teas with soy milk was the highlight, I think. I got a plate of pad thai with tofu that probably could’ve fed a family of 12.

Dan and I first wanted to go to the Mai-Kai, but it doesn’t open until 5pm on weekdays. The club was nice… we stuck around until about 7:30. Belle was there, for the first time in an age, but apparently she never got my CDs. I’ll have to burn her some new ones when I do vimoh‘s cartoons this weekend.

All of the reviews of the Batman Begins movie have been overwhelmingly positive… glad to heat it! Maybe I’ll check it out before MP comes into town.

An awesome collection of old school ad art and retro illustration. – I’m really digging this one, in particular.

It was demoniacally hot yesterday at midday…. late afternoon rains were a welcome cooling factor, after the first half hour of jungle steam. I feel the change in atmosphere in my body.. sinus pressure is different, and the air is a lot thicker than it was, just a week ago. Sometimes I suspect I could fold an origami butterfly out of a cigarette paper, hang it in the air and the humidity would just let it hover in suspension like a slice of carrot in Gramma’s beef stew.

Weekend came just in time… I’ve been feeling fatigued this week. If I had a lesser work ethic, I’d have bailed on today.

Good Movie torrent site… Where else can you get Eddie Izzard Concerts, Jeremiah Johnson and House of Flying Daggers? Pretty Scotto-liscious.

I forgot how much I liked the character Pete from Brisco County. Quirky. Pam liked him, too.

I’m not sure if the full beard is better or worse than the goat. It’s different, and certainly seasonal. I may just try my hand at having my jaws fuzzed for a few weeks. There’s a bit more salt in with the pepper now.

I wonder what sort of theme music would follow me around? I’d sort of like sitar, but somehow, I suspect that I’d be pigeonholed into some lumbering brass in there. Heaven Help me if I were to get the “Otis” theme from the Superman movies. I like to think that I give off an air of calm, kindness, and intelligence, but I think about how much of the goof would override that?

Just as well that I don’t have my own theme or incidental music.

Man… Dictionaraoke still cracks me up regularly.

Danny wants to go to Otaku-Con in a month.

I’m not too big on most anime, but cons offer me a chance to hit the dealers rooms for Christmas prezzies, a chance to socialize with Dan where he’s very happy, and there’s supposed to be a bunch of cosplayers there…. which just brings out the “Dian Fossey – Research Primatologist” in me. I’m a people-watcher, and the more fringe elements always teach me something new.

I wonder if James / Mark / Renata / Etc. will be attending? I haven’t seem much of that crew in a dog’s age.

6943 – Hey, Kool-Aid!

Hey, Kool-aid!

Seeing this icon reminded me of on of my favorite character ideas of Danny’s from games past.

Dan had a character Best Suited for his personality – “Man of Iron“, but one of his other planned supers was Kool-Aid Man. Child-actor who actually was Kool-Aid man.. became disenfranchised later in life when nobody took him seriously, and began using his “giant pitcher of red fluid”-powers to commit crimes. It didn’t take long to catch him… and now he goes on special missions with Z-squad. (Or… would, if he wasn’t asked to come up with something else. He ended up playing a tunneling Joe Pesci slimeball named the Weasel… a precursor to his current character in the D20 D&D game his students are running at the school.)

Watched Silent Running this morning. With the exception of the “message music” that seems to be in all movies in or around the early 70s, it is a really good film. I of course sympathize more with the murderous space-hippie than the corporate drones.

Lappie’s battery charge no longer detects properly… I suspect it’s on the way out. I wonder if I can locate an inexpensive replacement? He’s been a durable little bugger since the mack’s groves gig, years ago. The only add-ons I’ve ever done to him are memory and a wireless card (and reformatted from Windows Me(h) to 2000) … he’s served me well both as a primary and a backup machine for quite a span… aside from games that require heavy-duty graphics, it’s still a fine little workhorse.

Well, the rainy season is officially over… how come the hurricane season still extends into and through November?

The weather is lovely outside.. highs in the 80s at noontime, lows in the 60s at night. *This* is the reason my folks moved to the south in the first place.

Nice out, so I’m considering early-morning walkies before work.

Knowing how much I enjoy morning sleep, I suspect that my walks will end up in the evening.

Talked to Danny last night about unexplored areas of land on Earth. He thinks that pretty much every square mile of land has been physically touched by humans in some way or another, but I disagree.

I want to find a map or something of areas never touched.. Areas in Alaska, Africa, etc. Just to get an idea of what’s small pieces are left for explorers to uncover. I wonder.. there are some theories that say that 2-3 thousand years ago that the Congo was mostly grasslands.

The only accessory you need for Talk Like A Pirate Day, September 19. The site’s creator, Grant Henninger, says: “Let me present t’ you t’ iPatch! It really has no purpose, but it was a fun site t’ build. Hope people get a good harty-har-har out o’ it.”

Well, Re: Ghost in the Shell… I liked the Basset. both styles of animation were good, but the CGI and cel-stuff didn’t mesh well.. rather distracting, actually. Sammy really dug it, so I imagine it’s just a question of personal tastes. Site Meter

Danny and I had a nice time at riverwalk, had lunch at einsteins, a beer at the ugly toona saloona, and talked about this that and the other as we walked around… they’re relaying the brickwork on Tavern row. I wonder if doing that on a Saturday is the worst possible time for business?

With all the hurricanes and tropical storms lately, I’m surprised more people aren’t trying to find that dang butterfly.

Downloaded and watched 50 first dates.. very typical sandler movie, cute and silly. Nice night.. not many missings to interfere.

Off to lunch and then Ghost in the Shell 2 this afternoon.. Sammy said it was great, so I’ll follow that lead. (I don’t know how fond I am of the acronym “GitS”.

I like the term “tuber” for potatoes. I don’t like it for people floating down a river.

Kong is King – You can watch as Peter Jackson builds the new King Kong movie. (Video production diary on the right) Weird that Andy Serkis (Gollum) will be providing motion capture and facial expressions for the computer generated King Kong. (He was ruled ineligible for a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the 2003 Academy Awards because his character Gollum in Lord of the Rings onscreen was computer generated.)
