I fear the urge to see snakes on a plane has passed. I was enjoying the hype far more than I could possibly enjoy the movie. Maybe I’ll feel differently once I hear a fun review of it, or make a party out of going. Monster House might be a winner, though.

Moment of Lyric – (vox audio)
The warmth of your love’s
Like the warmth from the sun
And this will be our year
Took a long time to come…
Don’t let go of my hand
Now the darkness has gone
This will be our year
Took a long time to come…
And I won’t forget
The way you helped me up when I was down
And I won’t forget
The way you said “darling, I love you”
You gave me faith to go on
Now we’re there
And we’ve only just begun
This will be our year
Took a long time to come…
The warmth of your smile
Smile for me, little one
And this will be our year
Took a long time to come…
You don’t have to worry
All your worried days are gone
This will be our year
Took a long time to come…
And I won’t forget
The way you helped me up when I was down
And I won’t forget
The way you said “darling, I love you”
You gave me faith to go on
Now we’re there
We’ve only just begun
This will be our year
Took a long time to come…
And this will be our year
Took a long time to come…

Simple things make me happy. I’d love to see a kid’s show today as awesome
Y’know, as an aside, I think of the 70’s New York as the Definitive “Spider-Man” setting… possibly that’s when I was reading the comics of the time. Wide Collars, brown vests over flowery shirts, Girls with ironed hair and wide hair-bands, bell-bottoms. Heck, Morgan Freeman as Easy Reader.
When I think of DC comics, my mind rewinds a bit to the mid-late ’60s. (Unless it’s war comics – Same goes for Captain America/Wonder Woman, set in the late 30s, early 40s.) – But Friendly-Batman is linked inexorably to the 60’s or 90s as “hardcore guy” , while Superman is the ’50s… almost Archie-style. Team-ups between the two, or JLA stuff flashes a bit forward to 80s-ville.
TV and movies are part of it, but more is the comics themselves.
8465 – this week is moving fast, despite my best efforts.
Meeting with Mom after work to do will-stuff. She seems particularly enthusiastic to make sure the condo will go to the family rather than the state…. So, If I snuff it under suspicious circumstances, you know who to chase down for questioning, dear journal.
Pretty Keen Stop Motion video of a guy coasting through his day. I wish Youtube would support higher quality movies.
Minimum Wage (in Florida) is Currently $6.40. When I took my first Job at Taco Bell, it paid $3.35 and hour – That was back in 1985. (Starting wages at the library were a whopping $4.42, plus super insurance/etc bennies.) I wonder how well each state compares to cost of living expenses?
For “tipped employees” meeting eligibility requirements for the tip credit under the FLSA, employers may count tips actually received as wages under the FLSA, but the employer must pay “tipped employees” a direct wage in an amount equal to the minimum wage of $6.40 minus $3.02 (which, as required by Florida’s Constitution, is the 2003 tip credit existing under the FLSA), or a direct hourly wage of $3.38 on January 1, 2006.
San Fran, California is $8.50… Kansas is $2.65. Six States have no minimum wage laws.
Like the Federal wage and hour law, State law often exempts particular occupations or industries from the minimum labor standard generally applied to covered employment. This information often may be found at the websites maintained by State labor departments. Links to these websites are available at www.dol.gov/esa/contacts/state_of.htm.

We’re setting sail to a place on the map
From which no-one has ever returned
Drawn by the promise of the joker and the fool
By the light of the crosses that burned
Drawn by the promise of the women and lace
And the gold and the cotton and pearls
It’s the place where they keep all the darkness you need
You sail away from the light of the world on this trip, baby
You will pay tomorrow
You’re gonna pay tomorrow
You will pay tomorrow

Nice dreams last night… pretty surreal for the most part, including some TV crossover With Jimmy Doohan and Barbara Eden – Sort of a Montgomery Scott dreams of Jeannie. “Ye Canna Change the laws of Physics” “Why not, Master?” Arms-fold, *blink* and suddenly, cheese is an explosive.
He then flips out over all the things that will upset the universe, and hilarity ensues.

Moment of lyric – Youtube
8415 – What speak you words that have no meaning?
Danny and I were pretty bushed yesterday, after work.. not in the mood for movies about weather or bigh boats or wacky couples sharing an apartment. Instead, we walked around toys ‘r us, had Thai/Japanese food. (interesting to have veggie rolls as appetizers, and then Pad Thai with tofu for main meal.)
Waitresses were stern, but massively skilled, superb service and swift… smiles flickered to their faces when eye contact was met… only to fade out as they moved on. Danny ventured that they were under cover martial artists, due to the clockwork precision. They were tipped well.
We went back to my place to do a little game of pirates, but were feeling too lazy to roll dice or push 2 inch plastic boats, so we watched an episode of Red Dwarf, Zefrank’s video journal, and about 10 minutes of Land of the lost.
8404 – BANGS! Monday Already? I feel like I’m still in the 70s.
Nice to be relieved of on-call by EN yesterday…. I really prefer to have my weekend to myself, if it can be helped. Lovely rain all day Sunday, and I didn’t do much in way of walkies, due to the foot boo-boo.
Feeling nostalgic for the mid-late 70s… Remembering imprints from the first decade of life, or thereabouts. Sort of funny…so many of folks I know and talk to regularly weren’t even protein yet in 1975. Oh, for the good ol’ days of eating Cap’n Crunch in front of the boob tube watching cartoons or whatnot before the sun has even come up, without a care in the world. Bro still just about 2 years old or so… My Dad about a decade younger than I am now, Momster even younger than that. Only responsibilities are not to wake anybody up.. maybe do a little coloring, or read a book about dinosaurs with word searches and connect the dots at the end of each chapter.
Even as a munchkin, I had to have mixed media piped into my skull… tv, reading, writing, coloring, action figures (or tiny ones, like army men/cowboys and indians cast in plastic).. usually all at the same time. I’m the only person I know that drew crayoned outlines on paper of my GI Joe and Hulk Dolls. Not that I was playing coroner, or anything. I just liked filling in the silhouettes in different poses as a kind of multicolored version of Hiroshima shadows, usually in multiple overlays.
I still remember that Hulk doll with the torn purple pants and the left leg repaired with a nut and bolt across the knee by my dad. More flashback-type stuff from that period.

Juliabee put me onto heifer.org – Nifty sounding group to help teach folks self-reliance.
Heifer’s mission is to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth and they do that by working with communities. Heifer provides families with training and a livestock gift. Take a look at this video to learn more about this organization that helps families all over the world.
Some interesting packages… the honeybees, chicks and the goats, for example. (the other packages)
Random Scotto factoid – I like the Smothers Brothers.

Once I had a love and it was a gas, soon turned out had a heart of glass.
Seemed like the real thing, only to find mucho mistrust.
Love’s gone behind.
Once I had a love and it was divine.
Soon found out I was losing my mind.
It seemed like the real thing but I was so blind.
Mucho mistrust.
Love’s gone behind.
In between “what I find is pleasing” and “I’m feeling fine”, love is so confusing.
It’s no peace of mind if I fear I’m losing you.
It’s just no good, you teasing like you do.
Once I had a love and it was a gas, soon turned out had a heart of glass.
Seemed like the real thing, only to find mucho mistrust.
Love’s gone behind.
Lost inside adorable illusion and I cannot hide.
I’m the one you’re using please don’t push me aside.
We could make it cruising, yeah.
Yeah, riding high on love’s true bluish light
Ooh ooh ooh whoa x4
Once I had a love and it was a gas, soon turned out to be a pain in the ass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find mucho mistrust.
Love’s gone behind.

Think of a number,
divide it by two,
something is nothing,
nothing is nothing.
Open a box,
tear off the lid,
then think of a number,
don’t think of an answer.
Open your eyes,
think of a number,
don’t get swept under,
a number’s a number
A chance encounter you want to avoid,
the inevitable, so you do, oh yes you do the impossible
Now you ain’t got a number,
you just want to rhumba,
and there ain’t no way you’re gonna go under
Go under

Moment of Lyric – mp3
I really like the song mostly just for the yeah yeahs and the riffs, but here’ the lyrics, anyhow.
If you could blow up the world with the flick of a switch
Would you do it?
If you could make everybody poor just so you could be rich
Would you do it?
If you could watch everybody work while you just lay on your back
Would you do it?
If you could take all the love without giving any back
Would you do it?
And so we cannot know ourselves or what we’d really do…
With all your power
With all your power
With all your power
What would you do?
If you could make your own money and then give it to everybody
Would you do it?
If you knew all the answers and could give it to the masses
Would you do it?
No no no no no no are you crazy?
It’s a very dangerous thing to do exactly what you want
Because you cannot know yourself or what you’d really do
With all your power
With all your power
With all your power

Got together with Kev last night, did a classic fart party at my place… pizza, caught up on gossip and family, and watched the extended version of buckaroo banzai. I think that he’ll do quite well to be away from his siblings and in-laws for a year. Newt was pretty talkative…he smelled Kev’s Zoo, and was investigating him the whole time, alternately nuzzling, sniffing, and bipping.
Yesterday morning when I left for work, the smell of ozone was in the air, and thunder in the distance. I put my palm, cell phone and digicam in a sealed plastic bag, and went to the stop with umbrella as a walking-stick. Before I cleared the D building, it was coming down in sheets. By the time I made it to the bus stop, I was soaked through, save for a circle of only semi-wet the size of my bumbershoot coverage. My natural body-heat dried most of me out, save for socks and shoes, which squished throughout the day. Not the most fun feeling, and I really couldn’t take ’em off, because I had some dog & pony shows / trainings to do. I was more than delighted to be free of those foot-bindings once I arrived home.
