Good luck this morning… I found $25 dollars in a pack of smokes on the bus. I tossed the Winstons out, and kept the money as a just reward for anti-littering.

Home early, and taking it easy. New duties at work tomorrow…plus meetings about the website. I find out exactly what the duties entail tomorrow too…but I don’t imagine they’re too much fun… sales and the mail shop were bleating about having to do it… and Kev offered our dept… I hope it’s nothing tedious. Kev did mention that it’d only be for a little while…. that sort of softening suggests that it’ll be PITA work. Hopefully, it’s something I can automate programmatically.

Tonight’s book… Starting fresh with Emergence: The Connected Lives of Ants, Brains, Cities, and Software by Steven Johnson, paperback edition. Tony gave it to me just yesterday. Got to dig found lit, given freely. I was interested in it last winter, but my reading queue was already quite full… glad to have it reappear.

Newt’s adorable tonight…curled up in the middle of my Indian-style sitting position. Time to read some non-backlit text, enjoy purrs, the scent of nag champa, and some science. Throw in some snuggly sweetie read-dreaming too, while I’m at it.

See you later, Dear Journal.

Wow… pleasantly exhausting dreams last night. I wonder what factors make some vivid, and others difficult to remember? Emotional content? Adrenaline?

Seventy-eight full-color reasons to be glad you’re not in high-school any more.

They certainly seem to have more variety of industrial-distributed food, though.

Makes me miss my Speed Buggy Lunchbox.

some terrain for miniatures wargaming. Here’s a use for those AOL Discs…put a small glob of thick white glue on an old CD, then pile on bits of sprue, kitty litter, gravel or sand and cool looking bits on to it. (sprue and cool stuff first, then the grit just to cover any glue, then paint.. base in black, and dry brush the colors.

Hm… interesting. I submitted my figures to mkrealms, for an evaluation (Note, I paid about $28 total for the two starter sets of 10 that brought them together) not bad…$73 worth of figs. That Chaos mage is worth $21? Nutty collectors.3x the price, right out of the box.

It’s raining nicely, and I’m home and in a comfy place. people at work were respectful and kind, today. Happy for it.

Dinner is warming on the stove. rice, tofu, broccoli and peanut sauce.

I’m counting blessings tonight. There’s a lot of ’em out there… and a few in here, too. Love, life, knowledge, the senses. Relief. Hope.

G’night, dear journal.

Hmm… Why does Newt leaping into the litter box to do his duty immediately after I clean it out crack me up so much?

“Hey! This doesn’t smell like *my potty*! I’d better pee, and then rooster tail a little of the sand! That’s better!” Maybe he likes adjusting the sands, a la a Zen garden… albeit with tootsie rolls after digesting.

He’s been a playful little guy all morning…playing milk ring fetch like a good boy… it really makes me happy when he brings me the ring, and drops it in front of me, out of the blue. I know he digs the quality time with his mamma-pod, and I surely do, too.

Back to Newtie-play. 🙂

I forgot until I was out the door this morning that it was vote-day! So much for getting to work terribly early. I managed to avoid all the tech-trouble that many of the stations were having today.

I won my ebay auction… so I should be getting more little figures than I’ll ever need, for cheapy-cheap. 🙂 Toys! Yay! Fun!

Where’s my PM thunderstorms?

Computer-controlled music played on explosion organs. – Remember that church organ that I thought looked like it was designed to fire projectiles at the listeners?

The Large Hot Pipe Organ is the world’s only MIDI controlled, propane powered explosion organ. The LHPO’s pyro-acoustic explodo-rhythmations will throbbatize your earholes and dance-ify your booty and make you realize what “Industrial Music” REALLY means!

Cool Doodles by Stanislaw Lem – I especially liked the Skeleton of a Procyte

I’m going to turn in a little early… I think a good long night of rest is in order. The vertigo passed about noonish today, but I had no real appetite… I’m going to put a little fuel in the body, just for doing so, and then it’s reading and playing with the Newtzilla before beddy-bye.

Going into work early… maybe I can bug out early, too. I have an urge to propel myself rapidly through the day today, for some reason. There’s a desire to burn off the daylight.

Still suffering from a slight loss of balance, but no longer groggy. I’m going to take it carefully, if swiftly. No bicycle today, all bus. I’ll take a cab home tonight. I’m feeling a little susceptible to collision today.

Pretty day today. Calm winds, pretty warm, but not hot. I can feel a little pressure in my back, but not in a bad way. Thunderstorms are coming tonight.

Have a good day, dear journal.

An orange cat… I’m not naming names… decided that it’d be fun to get up to snuggle and play extra early this morning.

He’s all tuckered out now, but I’m not ready to go back to bed yet… and it’s too early to go outside for walkies… still rather dark. Brain’s not up to really reading or writing too much at the moment.

Five hours until my ebay auction closes… nobody else has bid on it, but it’s usually not until the last moment that the sneaky-boogers jump in and start sniffing around.

Mild dizziness this morn. Not sure if it’s the groggies from an early rise, or if I’m getting symptoms of Dave’s cold. No other flu-elements yet, so we’ll see what happens. The ol’ noggin doesn’t have all the right marbles in the proper holes at the moment yet.

Well, off to the morning routine. See you in a bit, dear journal.

Well.. voting tomorrow… first time with the touch screen system.

Nifty flash gizmo…Need to draw up a building, quickly, but don’t have a house design/cad/etc. program available?

So far, it just draws walls, windows, and doors, but for a quick building or set of rooms, it isn’t bad at all. You can move any object you create, change their sizes, or drag them off the plan to make them disappear. It has a basic grid, and snap-to functionality, so your walls always line up along the gridlines…plus it prints, does an isometric view, and you can walk through it.

Very basic, yes. Potentially useful, especially if you don’t have layout software with you? Definitely.

Raisin cinnamon swirl oatmeal is yummy! It is indeed a tasty way to start the day. (I do confess, I made 2 packets) … 1/5 of my calories of the day, give or take.

I’m shopping for a good multi-vitamin. I’m guessing Walgreen’s or Eckerd’s will have one, but I’m going to research it a bit. (Anyone reading want to offer a recommendation?)

Two hundred years ago, the human race got, on average, 30cm taller. Now, on average, the human race is obese. A researcher from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine claims that the obesity pandemic is a new fundamental shift in the shape of human bodies, brought on by the same kinds of technological changes that made us taller.

“Pandemic” obesity was the result of an abundance of high-energy, aggressively marketed foods, and sedentary lifestyles induced by television and computers, said Professor Prentice.

I forgot to mention on Friday… People at work are telling me how to mourn. “Drive with your lights on. Wear Black, Wear Red White and Blue”… etc etc etc.

I imagine your heart’s in the right place, but stop, ok? I don’t need to hear “Scotto wore green and khaki on the big day! Is he supporting terrorists? Does he hate America? ”

No. I’m just not making it a friggin’ Saint Patrick’s Day, or the Fourth of July. I don’ t dress up for December 7, or Memorial Day, either. I’ll wear what’s in my closet and clean that day, and hopefully it’ll match.

I save colors for festive holidays. Halloween… Christmas… Valentines Day. You’ll see me in costume dress then, or at least colors. I do feel bad about the tragedy of lost life and our lost security… but I’m not going to buy a “Memorial black armband” to wear on Sept 11 every year from now on. Come on…I’m not going to not make this a hallmark moment. I hope that I just have a few office busybodies, and that this isn’t a national annoyance.

On a lighter note – Forget the sheep jokes. Scottish men are taking to a new form of kinkiness: sex with traffic cones. Yes, these nubile, rubber beauties with their come-hither looks and wanton, orange attire are all the rage in Scotland for a midday shag.

With that, I’m off to work. Until later, dear journal.

No nightgown under my clothes, by gum. 😉

Got a new set of sheets today… made of an oddball t-shirt sort of cotton. Comfy. Very suited to a tie-dye project, but for now, pristine white is nice too… typing of which, I’m rather enjoying the feel of socks, lately. Times change.

I want someone to take me out to buy some new birks…and maybe some canvas sneakers.

Rain off and on like a little kid flicking a switch all day… wet- dry-wet-thunder-dry thunder-wet.

I remember reading the rules to Dungeons and Dragons on the way home from church, circa 1978. I didn’t see a clash, then… nor do I now, really.

Spent much of the day playing mage knight with Dave… I picked up 20 random figs via starter kit… and what’s the first one I draw? A werebear, of course. 🙂

I also got – two shade, wood golem Living elemental (A good brother piece to the golem), amotep gunner, ranger (not nearly painted this well) Half-troll hacker, black powder boomer, leech medic , screeching terror, altem guardsman, and dwarven fuser (who looks like he has a spoon on his nose).

My least favorite piece- Amazon Blade mistress… because the paint job is awful, and the base is tough to click.

My Faves – Chaos Mage – I like his antlers, and he kicks butt…much neater looking in person. I also got his little brother, the Slasher, who looks nothing like his picture there. Deep Spawn is nifty, but mine is black, with a light green detail.

Most useful overall? The Chaos Mage, above, and the Grave Robbers (I got a red and a blue of those, too)… Kept me from losing my army very fast.

I had a nice time… Cathi seems to be sort of rough around the edges, these days, though. Weirdness… Mark Archila is working at the Lost Realms store, and recognized me right away. I may call ’em back and say hi… it’s weird seeing him with long hair and I guess he’s living on his own in west palm.Still a nice, friendly, genuine guy, though.

P.S… The twelve dragons store? It smells like pee. cat pee. a lot of it. my eyes burned. really. don’t go there, ever, unless you want your eyes to burn form a ton of cat-pee smell.

p.p.s…. and the gamers were ordering chinese food to eat there! in the cat-pee scented store. Ack. cute kittens, though.

going out this afternoon….spending midday with Dave.. He’s been bitten by the mage knight bug, so maybe we’ll play some of that over coffee. Who knows? maybe I’ll pick up a few figures and have a fantasy army to whomp on my supers?

I slept like a corpse last night. Long, deep, seemingly dreamless. Russian Sleep… the kind you wake up like rip van winkle, and see the world around you has changed by 300 years. Newt didn’t swab me this morn, or I didn’t feel it… when I did wake, my eyes snapped open, and my mind was clear… no grogginess at all. Very unusual for me.. usually I do a slow five or ten minute “fade in”.

A dash of orange and ambergris.

Random Scotto factoid – My favorite quote from Bewitched:

You are quicksilver, a fleeting shadow, a distant sound.
Your life has no boundaries beyond which you cannot pass.
You live in music, in a flash of color.
You live on the wind, and in the sparkle of a star.
