6531 Beware the Ides of March!

Rainy Morning, gray skies and white noise make me long to look at the back of my eyelids, while I remain under earth-toned covers with an orange cat sleeping by my neck.

Doug Wu called yesterday from Seattle while I was out on walkabout – I’m very happy for him. Congrats on making it out there, at last!

Speaking of yesterday’s walkabout – revisited the strip mall of sin and the mall of the dead. times have changed, and stayed the same.

The Strip mall of sin, now with piracy, beef jerky, and slot machines!

Behold, the signage for the strip mall of sin! (Behind is Ronnie B’s, land of delicious milkshakes… yet another vice on the list.)

The stores, in order from top to bottom are –

  • Big D’s Dead Head Shop – My supplier of nag champa and hemp string… the reason for stopping off. Used to be called Grateful J’s. They have a back room full of sex-stuff, too… like seemingly every store in the place. They don’t trade soundboard tapes anymore… are exclusively CD. I guess speed and ease of duplication finally won out.
  • Sun-Brite Market – An overpriced Mom & Pop convenience store. 85ยข cans of soda pop and dusty sticks of meat by-product sealed in plastic laminate. It’s weird, because it was an empty slot in there for years, and already, everything inside is faded and grimy… like they took an ancient store from somewhere else and dropped it in as a module. a back area with dirty magazines covered in grit. seriously.. the joint was so dirty, I was uncomfortable buying a canned drink, and opted instead to go with the aforementioned milkshake. *GOOD CALL*
  • Video spot – A pretty legit video store, only really sinful by the huge XXX section in the back. I’m not sure why they bother, as the adult bookstore below has pornies, too.
  • A Video duplication service.. on site piracy for the video store!
  • Lady Luck…. this is new, like the Market. It’s an “adult arcade”… I had to stick my nose in. Video Poker and Slot machines. I should’ve taken a picture of the sad looking people inside, but I couldn’t bear to. The people reminded me of sad zombies… haunted shells, husks of people. Glassy eyes on screens, pumping dollar bills (not silver dollars or quarters?) into the front, trying to make money back.
  • Tattoo (Blues) – pretty much the same as last time, it was fairly crowded. Same owners who have always been helpful, friendly and informative whenever I ‘ve stopped in and asked questions.
  • Girls (Florida Models) – “On-site dating & specialty photography… all female staff” Or should I say, staph?
  • Electronic Laboratory VCR & Stereo repair. (for when the substandard pirate copies of the porno you rented jam in the machine?) They no longer do photo ID’s
  • Adult bookstore – with video booths, toys, too. I noticed that the “no Hookers” notices were no longer in place… I wonder if they ran them off, finally? Or did the “dating” place finally put them out of business? The sign is very new.

mall of the dead is now 90% razed

6529 day’s end

The 2 -bedroom was snapped up between yesterday and today. I expected as much.. the deal was really sweet. The smaller one with the balcony was nice, central air, new appliances. It’s practically in lighthouse point, though… just a little North of my old apartments in pompano, near the blimp base. I’m not going to set myself up for another 2 hour commute each way… just can’t happen. So, I’ll continue my search.

Bro’s truck is officially out of hock, parked atop the mother’s building, so it’s pretty secure.

Nifty… Same comic, in 30-something different perspectives / styles. I’m rather fond of “sound effects”, “exorcise in style”, and “a life”.Site Meter

I’m looking forward to this summer in There.com… lots of new developments in beta. I can only call ’em rumor, for now, but it’d be nice to see ’em. Still don’t know what happened with D… she doesn’t want to hang out with the gang lately.

Hm, they’re rebooting the Doom Patrol… I guess Danny the Street, Rebis and Crazy Jane never existed? Will Niles Caulder Be a complete bastard? Will Josh Clay be alive again? I don’t really care either way. I never was too much of a stickler for continuity, and think that Morrison’s stuff stands on its own as groovy tales. Byrne’s art is so bland and mainform after seeing the more stylized stuff by Richard Case from the 90s… and he’s never been my fave writer, either.

Danny the street talk –

Tip-Top Eek: Beautiful Face
Bona-To-Vada: Good to see you
Bona-La: Goodbye

Ah well… maybe it’ll get them rolling again, but I fear that the Doom Patrol, the Metal Men, the legion of super-pets and all the wonderful, weirdo second-stringers will just keep bubbling to the surface every decade or so, and then sink back into comic-book soup again until the next resurrection.

Side note: I like Case’s Art Nouveau Hawkgirl, from the Art Nouveau project

Until today, I’d never seen Starbucks abbreviated as *$. Clever. I’ll probably use that.

Interesting Encyclopedia of Dance… the Bellydance entry is especially robust.

City of Heroes update (via Whimsy) Making it hard for me to pass up.

I’m thinking of some sort of leapfrog guy… maybe sort of Batroc the Leaper. Hey, Batroc has his own Blog!

Bro’s current situation… going to get his truck out of hock today. $500ish. Public Defender says that it looks like he’ll probably get three years probation, after sitting tight waiting for trial for another two weeks or so. I’m going to visit him at the North Broward facility.Site Meter

Apparently my Dad’s Brother was in town for a few days, and I missed him this week. I heard from my Uncle Bob last night (Val’s Hubby, Rhonda & Russ’s Pop), and he mentioned that he was down. Funny thing is that Bobby is pretty dang laid back, and Bill is rather bombastic and overbearing. (in Bobby’s words, “it was a nice short visit…. taken best in small doses. 1 aspirin good, a bottle, bad.)

Trying to trim this gif to 40k for icon use (from the video found here)…It may be simpler to redraw it in black and white.

Rockin’ Video (Walkie Talkie Man)… with amazing knitting. Hooray for nutty yarn recording studios! via

Had a nice time gabbin’ with sammykunSammy last night… I got to preach the word of The GIMP art program… originally for UNIX, there are now Windows, OS/2 and Mac versions available.

link to, in order to prevent more messy spam.

hits struck on entries 6402 and 6427, again.

[update-9:40am offending journal suspended. nice work, abuse team!]

remember, if you want to complain about spammers, it’s just a link away…

6521 just a cool hot-dogger hangin’ ten today.

Well, I’m going to have to hit the green grocer after my normal day’s duties. I fell a bit off of my points-diet last week, and I should get back on task. Less bread, more greens! Also, I’m craving skinny cow ice cream sammiches. I will not get any “spring oreos” with robins egg blue filling, even if they do have cute ladybugs on the cookies.

I voted yesterday… there were *no* other voters there when I arrived at lunchtime. I got to use the touchscreen system, but didn’t see any members of Pax Christi anywhere.

Got my business cards… put my first one to use yesterday.. tossed it in the free-lunch fishbowl at quiznos. Newbie does a pretty funny “they got a pepper bar” impersonation.

MONKEY POPS! (with sound) Yummmmy

The TENS is a joy. I wish I’d gotten insurance to send me one ages ago.

6519 – email post – more lj-spam

user valentit_love9 is spamming all of the same entries that I got the indian
porn spam in previously. that user has been banned, but if I get another spam,
I’ll screen all non-linked people in LJ as well as just anonymous comments.

I wonder what keywords are activating those entries?

Obviously a bum account though…

got a cool air-freshener and sushi postcard in the mail yesterday… thanks, calamity! It was my pleasure to be the first one to add a little dinero to the transportation fund! I hope you get some good travel-luck soon.

My favorite commentary on the whole TPotC thing thus far –

Star Trek on ice!

Random weird connection of the day (at least to me)

Kathy GarverCissy from Family Affair was the voice of Firestar on Spider-man and his Amazing Friends, and Rachel in The Ten Commandments. From her Family Affair Days, she looked a lot like my babysitter’s pal Patty, whom I had a terribly fierce, yet platonic crush on as a young pod. I think that Kathy was quite the cutie in her time.

Spalding Gray has been found… sadly, it was in the East River.

He was one of my favorite monologists (is that a word?), and was a fascinating person overall. He’ll be missed, a lot. Monster in a Box was even better than Swimming to Cambodia, in my opinion. I still think of barking like a dog when stressed and buying pens for parking validation at a doctor’s office.

I hope you’ve found some peace, at last… but it’s a shame you had to step out the way you did.
