Yahoo’s Image Search may be better than Google’s Image Search.

I can still amuse myself for hours by typing in random word/word combinations.

The friendy-meme. (revised a mite)

In the comments section of this post:

1. Tell me one thing you like about me.

2. Tell me two things you like about yourself.

Then…

3. Look through the comments. When you see someone you know, tell them three things you like about them.

4. Do this in your journal so I can tell you what I like about YOU. (or just ask, and I’ll tell you here.)

I think the idea of Galactus with a gold tooth, flashing gang signs, and going “East SIIIIIDEE” before taking a bite out of Earth is no worse than most of the comic book stuff I’ve seen lately.

I don’t think that I have a destiny. I do have a direction… I want to thrive while doing good work. I think the idea of “fate” is awful situation… who wants to be stuck on one track, no choice, trapped?

Random Scotto factoid: I am made of meat and blood, bone, teeth and hair. There’s some bacteria, dust mites and plant life, too. Electromagnetic impulses, sticky mucus, bright blue eyes and a titanium pin.

Saw about 10 minutes of Smallville last night… meh. Maybe it was an off night, but Clark and Lana seem to be less able to act than most of the co stars. Maybe they suffer from “Vader” syndrome… hired just by looks, not ability. It seems that the show relies on shining reflections off of people’s eyes, too.

Quote from the episode – “A man is measured by the quality of his friends.” If that’s the case, I’m in good shape, and my bro’s in a bit of trouble.

How’s the saying really go? Quality of his years? Maybe that’s more of an internal thing.

Lost was a lot better… but I don’t like 10,000 speed film or whatever. The “Gladiator/sports photography” look just doesn’t engage me.

BEF Office Bricolage Contest ResultThe Bolas are pretty inspired, as is the Micro-Claymore.

Hmm… Dave’s been off in the distance quite a bit in recent months. Life as a father of 2, I guess!

TV-B-Gone [is] a new universal remote that turns off almost any television. The device, which looks like an automobile remote, has just one button. When activated, it spends over a minute flashing out 209 different codes to turn off televisions, the most popular brands first.”

The flash multi-user magnetic refrigerator letters app is fascinating. I’ve noticed that I can set off a wave of behaviors, just by grouping certain letters or colors together. people will flock to assist in the grouping, as well as “spoilers” who try to mess up patterns. (not to mention the dueling curse words, name spellers, at times, too.) it can be fun just to watch the flock behavior and not even fool with it. An oracle might even see words of the future unfold, if there was a lot of “LOL” and “FAP” in it. and who could ask for more than that?

Saw Episode 3 of Lost… (The boar hunt… or the first one after the pilot.) It looks pretty dang good so far. I’m looking forward to tonights episode, and seeing the downloaded pilot and episode four, as well.

6943 – Hey, Kool-Aid!

Hey, Kool-aid!

Seeing this icon reminded me of on of my favorite character ideas of Danny’s from games past.

Dan had a character Best Suited for his personality – “Man of Iron“, but one of his other planned supers was Kool-Aid Man. Child-actor who actually was Kool-Aid man.. became disenfranchised later in life when nobody took him seriously, and began using his “giant pitcher of red fluid”-powers to commit crimes. It didn’t take long to catch him… and now he goes on special missions with Z-squad. (Or… would, if he wasn’t asked to come up with something else. He ended up playing a tunneling Joe Pesci slimeball named the Weasel… a precursor to his current character in the D20 D&D game his students are running at the school.)

Watched Silent Running this morning. With the exception of the “message music” that seems to be in all movies in or around the early 70s, it is a really good film. I of course sympathize more with the murderous space-hippie than the corporate drones.

Lappie’s battery charge no longer detects properly… I suspect it’s on the way out. I wonder if I can locate an inexpensive replacement? He’s been a durable little bugger since the mack’s groves gig, years ago. The only add-ons I’ve ever done to him are memory and a wireless card (and reformatted from Windows Me(h) to 2000) … he’s served me well both as a primary and a backup machine for quite a span… aside from games that require heavy-duty graphics, it’s still a fine little workhorse.

Well, the rainy season is officially over… how come the hurricane season still extends into and through November?

The weather is lovely outside.. highs in the 80s at noontime, lows in the 60s at night. *This* is the reason my folks moved to the south in the first place.

6942 – Free from the chains that bind. They Chafed this week.

Saturday, at last, at last.

What to do? Where to go? Morning chores are laid out for me… laundry and cleaning, but after that, the day is free for the taking.

Maybe I’ll just hop a city bus and see where it goes.

I hear that CS is back at school taking random courses in some sort of quest for a meaningful direction, now that he’s disenchanted with the computer field. I think that sounds rather wasteful of funds, but I don’t know the whole story.

He’s going to hit some trouble, I think. From what I’ve seen of his personality, he’s not going to find anything that works for him. I only hope that he’s not milking his girlfriend, bleeding her dry while he seeks some direction.

Cutie-Newtie

Whoops.. took a little morning nap, and forgot to post! Hard to do chores with a comfy bed and a snuggly Newt! Until later…I’m off to do the washing, dear journal!

6941 – handwriting analysis.

Another meme that’s goin’ around.

from here – http://www.handwritingwizard.com/info.phtml

though it seems to collect a lot of info. use a disposable email addy.

Like those that memed before me, I have bolded the findings that I think are accurate.

The test seems to have been written by someone with English as a second or third language. Beware… some is brain-bendingly hard to read.

6940 – The Ides of October.

One of the guys at Kiwanis is a low-grade conspiracy theorist… be seems very earnest about his beliefs regarding fluoride in the water and coca-cola being a state-run control drugs. I wanted to toy with him… ask him a few choice things, but that’s dangerous ground to tread. Best to smile and nod when the chief is just a few people over. Save the discussions of his urge to buy Catcher in the Rye for a safer time.

I really like the deep heartbeat sound of windshield wipers in a steady rain. The weather outside is so nice… I want to crawl back into bed and sleep to it.

1. What is the geekiest part of your music collection?
Hmm.. Devo: EZ Listening Muzak is pretty geeky.

2. What do you eat when you raid the fridge late at night?
I usually raid the cupboard.. that’s where cereal is.

3. What is your secret guaranteed weeping movie?
Hmm… I don’t know if it’s a sure thing but Charlotte’s Web is a tear-jerker.

4. If you could have plastic surgery, what would you have done?
Hmm… Could I have someone *else* of my choice tattooed with a Mexican Wrestling mask, instead?

5. Do you have a completely irrational fear? Not currently…but I am extra nervous around ledges with poor support / short guardrails.

6. What is the little physical habit that gives away your insecure moment?
I have a high blush response, and I’ll drop my gaze… breaking eye contact.

7. Are you a pyromaniac?
No, but fire is hypnotic.

Happy Birthday, Shah-Hala!!

Happy Birthday!
Her birth was a great present to us all. Many thanks to her parents!!

Something she’d like, I’m sure – murder scenes scaled to dollhouse size, used to teach forensic science in the ’40s.

It's the Gray Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!Gray Pumpkin forwarded a link to me about Mary-Sues (the phenomenon where an author somewhat unwittingly makes a character in their story who is basically the author, or an idealized/fantasy version of the author.)

The Original Fiction Mary-Sue Litmus Test

We were both reminded of a person in our old group who hit almost all of these points with her fiction.

Went out with Danny last night to Ugly Tuna Saloona. We didn’t have the interest or time for a movie, but we enjoyed the hangout quite a lot… its a quiet joint in the early evening, and the servers were very attentive. (We had the same server we had last time, and I think that we were remembered from our last visit about a month ago.) I think we’ve found a new hangout! We still need to check out the new casino.

Big Kahuna called right as we were sitting down … she wanted me to go back to the office and burn a cd, but fortunately it can wait until this morning.

I do my follow-up presentation at Kiwanis today, too.

6939 – Templars!

Today being the October 13th, one could note the passing of the Templars:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knights_Templar#Ruin

“On October 13, 1307, what may have been all the Knights Templar in France were simultaneously arrested by agents of Philip the Fair (Philippe le Bel), to be later tortured into admitting heresy in the Order. (Some believe this act to be the origin of superstition regarding Friday the 13th.) ”

The more conspiracy minded might also note that a modern incarnation of the Templars:

http://www.osmth.org/

Has a “Special Consultative Status” with the United Nations:

http://www.osmth.org/images/ngo.gif

And that the American Priory has been active in the Balkans:

http://www.smotj.org/charities/index.html

In the related area of helping Christians at risk, the Priory of St. Norbert of Chicago has been active in a very-much “hands-on” endeavor in Kosovo. The Priory of St. Norbert is in the process of collecting medical supplies for shipment to clinics in Kosovo. One of their Knights is serving in Kosovo on active duty with NATO forces.”

And I note that the point of contact email address for the NATO Priory is from the US Selective Service Administration ( for those outside the US, these are the guys who administer the Draft )

Hell of a cover for the Order of St. Jerome.
