Things about my dad at 37, as far as I can recall. The year was 1982. Two sons, aged thirteen and nine. His wife was studying for her realtor’s permit while working as a day-nurse to an older lady that had a stroke. He was well into real estate sales, and it was lucrative enough that the Mrs. was interested in doing the same thing. Fished almost every other weekend, and hunted maybe once every two months. At this point, almost all of our meat was store bought, but fish was a regular staple brought in by boat, pole and hook. Fishing was really his best way to get away from it all, and he almost always had a beer in his hand if it was after 7pm. He and his family were living in a single-family house (4 bedrooms, 2 bath) in Florida, and rented out a duplex – the one-bedroom side to an older tenant, and the 2 bedroom to a starting family. He smoked cigarettes during the week, and packed a pipe with cherry tobacco on the weekends. The neighbors were mostly Yuppies and suburban family folks, and his big TV shows were still documentaries, about war or nature. He wore his hair short, no beard or mustache.

He had five years left to live. I think he was very blessed.

Things about me at 37. The Year is 2006. Newt is seven years old, and far simpler to maintain than a human child.. we’ll see what Pye’s like soon (age three). I’m into my first year of marriage, (second month, actually), and my wife is studying for the bar. I’m currently looking for a new gig to go with my move to Maryland. (I figure something in DC, MD, or VA will pop up soon). I don’t know where my brother is living, but I hope he’s well… I haven’t seen him in many months, nearly a year… even though he’s got to be within 30 minutes of my Deerfield beach condo. (Keeping it to rent seasonally to a family friend, and visit in off season months.) I do not smoke anything, and drink only sparingly. I’ve not met my Maryland neighbors yet, but the Deerfield neighbors are mostly condo retirees, iguanas, and ibis. My Big TV shows are House, Dr. Who, and I’ve been enjoying Ugly Betty and Gilmore with the Mrs. My hair is short, tight along the neck… with a tightly trimmed goatee. I’m probably the happiest I’ve ever been in my life.

I have no idea how much time I have left. I’m very blessed.

Soon, my zip code will be 20714, rather than 33441. We’ll see what the distribution is like over the next few days, years, etc. probably a phone post tomorrow and the next day, unless there’s wifi in our hotel, and if I get scotto-pooters on bhk-net swiftly.

Catching up with House – nice to see that he’s getting hassled for his bully behavior, even if the other guy is a bully of sorts, too. Torchwood, not bad, but the three eps so far haven’t given me a lot to work with, character-wise. still way behind on heroes… can’t seem to get into it. Characters don’t really grab me much yet.
