I fear the urge to see snakes on a plane has passed. I was enjoying the hype far more than I could possibly enjoy the movie. Maybe I’ll feel differently once I hear a fun review of it, or make a party out of going. Monster House might be a winner, though.

Moment of Lyric – youtube video – I dig the dancing.(even though the main kid looks like Ronald McDonald and Michael Jackson’s love child.)

Lost my shape-Trying to act casual!
Can’t stop-I might end up in the hospital
I’m changing my shape-I feel like an accident
They’re back!-To explain their experience
Isn’t it weird/Looks too obscure to me
Wasting away/And that was their policy
I’m ready to leave-I push the fact in front of me
Facts lost-Facts are never what they seem to be

Not nearly so creaky this morning… definitely connected to barometric pressure.
I dreamt last night that there was a rash of break-ins in my neighborhood… it turned out that some sort of mold was coating windows and making them shatter as the mold grew.

I have no interest in seeing the World Trade Center movie.
I can’t believe how truly fortunate I am, really. I sometimes just catch myself and even if I’m cranky, I’m amazed at how good I really have it.
Not getting together with Danny today – he forgot dance plans with the Mrs… no biggie, he’s going to visit on Thursday, instead, perhaps.

Pretty spiffy Zim and Kane Action this weekend. Il Postino was surprisingly good, too. (Saturday was spent watching Carnivale and writing. Drastic revisions to the detective story…I suspect I may be over-editing.
Cleansing chalk is better when it doesn’t have bacon in it. Space-time object replacement device is ready, too.
I didn’t venture any further than 25 steps from the HQ all weekend, and that’s really just fine by me. Only objectives left for today and depositing checks from doing tech support and click-through. As the top of August approaches, I’m wondering if it’ll get donated to heifer.org, or if there’s another good “help teach a man to fish” sort of orgs out there.

King Kong you know the name of
King Kong you know the fame of
King Kong ten times as big as a man
One day a boy, too young to know the danger;
Made a friend of this giant fearsome stranger!
And the life they live on their island home became a legend, the legend of . . .
King Kong you know the name of
King Kong you know the fame of
King Kong ten times as big as a man
Throughout the land you’ve heard about this wonder
Listen closely and you will hear his thunder
This mighty ape can be a friend of men
So says the legend The legend of
King Kong you know the name of
King Kong you know the fame of
King Kong ten times as big as a man
Lordy-lordy, another Monday. Note to self, bring personal forcefield generator, hip-waders, and something to temporarily deafen and keep me looking awake. Oh yeah, and synch up some new books to the pda. I’m thankful for good thoughts that’re going to buoy me through the day.

There’s talk of removing the local iguanas, because they’re spooking the ancients and are possibly carriers of disease.
I doubt that everything happens for a reason. (Or at least that there’s one “master plan”.)

Between a kink in my back, steady thrumming rain outside and a steadily purring Newton inside, I fairly well slept away my Saturday. Touched base with a number of nice folks, too.
Moment of Lyric – (vox audio)
The warmth of your love’s
Like the warmth from the sun
And this will be our year
Took a long time to come…
Don’t let go of my hand
Now the darkness has gone
This will be our year
Took a long time to come…
And I won’t forget
The way you helped me up when I was down
And I won’t forget
The way you said “darling, I love you”
You gave me faith to go on
Now we’re there
And we’ve only just begun
This will be our year
Took a long time to come…
The warmth of your smile
Smile for me, little one
And this will be our year
Took a long time to come…
You don’t have to worry
All your worried days are gone
This will be our year
Took a long time to come…
And I won’t forget
The way you helped me up when I was down
And I won’t forget
The way you said “darling, I love you”
You gave me faith to go on
Now we’re there
We’ve only just begun
This will be our year
Took a long time to come…
And this will be our year
Took a long time to come…

Y’know, as an aside, I think of the 70’s New York as the Definitive “Spider-Man” setting… possibly that’s when I was reading the comics of the time. Wide Collars, brown vests over flowery shirts, Girls with ironed hair and wide hair-bands, bell-bottoms. Heck, Morgan Freeman as Easy Reader.
When I think of DC comics, my mind rewinds a bit to the mid-late ’60s. (Unless it’s war comics – Same goes for Captain America/Wonder Woman, set in the late 30s, early 40s.) – But Friendly-Batman is linked inexorably to the 60’s or 90s as “hardcore guy” , while Superman is the ’50s… almost Archie-style. Team-ups between the two, or JLA stuff flashes a bit forward to 80s-ville.
TV and movies are part of it, but more is the comics themselves.

Set up a Wireless network over at MW’s house last night.. .I didn’t get cookies, but was given a nice check and some pizza for my troubles, so that worked out just fine. MW’s hubby is a comic book geek, and I think he was happy to be able to discuss assorted nerd-stuffs with me. He’s a nice guy, and I think he was surprised that I could identify the golden age Red Tornado pvc on his computer desk.
I saw Hal Linden on whatever the current Fran Drescher sitcom while flipping channels last night. I’m glad he still gets work, but even Barney Miller isn’t enough to lock my eyes on a “Nanny” spinoff.
I’m not a fan of the Friends TV show, but in that same flip, I heard a cute lyric sung by Lisa Kudrow –

swinging on an nose hair,
swinging with the greatest of ease…

8468 – World Jump Day!
8465 – this week is moving fast, despite my best efforts.
Meeting with Mom after work to do will-stuff. She seems particularly enthusiastic to make sure the condo will go to the family rather than the state…. So, If I snuff it under suspicious circumstances, you know who to chase down for questioning, dear journal.
Pretty Keen Stop Motion video of a guy coasting through his day. I wish Youtube would support higher quality movies.
Minimum Wage (in Florida) is Currently $6.40. When I took my first Job at Taco Bell, it paid $3.35 and hour – That was back in 1985. (Starting wages at the library were a whopping $4.42, plus super insurance/etc bennies.) I wonder how well each state compares to cost of living expenses?
For “tipped employees” meeting eligibility requirements for the tip credit under the FLSA, employers may count tips actually received as wages under the FLSA, but the employer must pay “tipped employees” a direct wage in an amount equal to the minimum wage of $6.40 minus $3.02 (which, as required by Florida’s Constitution, is the 2003 tip credit existing under the FLSA), or a direct hourly wage of $3.38 on January 1, 2006.
San Fran, California is $8.50… Kansas is $2.65. Six States have no minimum wage laws.
Like the Federal wage and hour law, State law often exempts particular occupations or industries from the minimum labor standard generally applied to covered employment. This information often may be found at the websites maintained by State labor departments. Links to these websites are available at www.dol.gov/esa/contacts/state_of.htm.

We’re setting sail to a place on the map
From which no-one has ever returned
Drawn by the promise of the joker and the fool
By the light of the crosses that burned
Drawn by the promise of the women and lace
And the gold and the cotton and pearls
It’s the place where they keep all the darkness you need
You sail away from the light of the world on this trip, baby
You will pay tomorrow
You’re gonna pay tomorrow
You will pay tomorrow
