Updated Information on that fire as of 3-22-25 at 1:30 p.m. After having walked the entire perimeter of the fire, the fire is estimated at 83 acres and not 200. The fire is 60% contained. About 36 people from RCFRD, Virginia Department of Forestry and the U.S. Forest Service are on scene to continue fighting this fire. Two bulldozers are also on scene to help build containment lines. A helicopter is staging in Blacksburg if needed. No structures have been threatened and there are no injuries or displacements.
Fire on the mountain today- Roanoke County Fire & Rescue says the fire near Route 311 in the Hanging Rock area is now 50 percent contained. The fire has burned more than 200 acres.
