Hunter S Thompson – I love his writing, and life.

“We had two bags of Grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half-full of cocaine and a whole galaxy of multicolored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…. also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls… but the only thing that worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible than a man in the depths of an ether binge…”

“There was madness in any direction, at any hour. If not across the Bay, then up the Golden Gate or down 101 to Los Altos or La Honda… You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning….

And that, I think, was the handle — that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn’t need that. Our energy would simply prevail. There was no point in fighting — on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave…”

“Strange memories on this nervous night in Las Vegas. Five years later? Six? It seems like a lifetime, or at least a Main Era — the kind of peak that never comes again. San Francisco in the middle sixties was a very special time and place to be a part of. Maybe it meant something. Maybe not, in the long run … but no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time and the world. Whatever it meant….

History is hard to know, because of all the hired bullshit, but even without being sure of “history” it seems entirely reasonable to think that every now and then the energy of a whole generation comes to a head in a long fine flash, for reasons that nobody really understands at the time — and which never explain, in retrospect, what actually happened.”

Everybody’s Talkin’
Fred Neil

Everybody’s talkin’ at me
I don’t hear a word they’re sayin’
Only the echoes of my mind
People stop and stare
I can’t see their faces
Only the shadows of their eyes

Chorus: I’m goin’ where the sun keeps shinin’
through the pourin’ rain
Goin’ where the weather suits my clothes
Bankin’ off of the northeast wind
Sailin’ on a summer breeze
Skippin’ over the ocean like a stone

And, I won’t let you leave my love behind
No, I won’t let you leave my love behind
And, I won’t let you leave my love behind

Byrds!

To everything, turn, turn, turn
There is a season, turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

{Refrain}

A time to build up, a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones
A time to gather stones together

{Refrain}

A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
A time you may embrace
A time to refrain from embracing

{Refrain}

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time for love, a time for hate
A time for peace, I swear it’s not too late

Lost Souls

Against the voting public, I went to see lost souls, on the logic that the others will be around longer, and therefore more accessible in the future. I’m glad that we went… it was quite well done, frightening, and well done. Lots of twists and turns, a few plot holes, but a nice scary ride. Also Picked up pumpkins for next weekend’s gourd-carving… now I have a week to decide what sort of face/design to put on Ol’ Jack.

Robb’s is a very cool shape, sort of a “muppet Bert” slightly tapered cone, with a neat haircut-swirly stem on top. Mine’s a more classic rusty-orange, and round. I opted out of picking up two…Also went to best buy, and decided against buying crimson skies or the AOE2 update… I’m doing ok in the games department…. besides, it gives folks stuff to get me for Xmas and B-day. 🙂

Got to shop for the rest of my costume tomorrow, but aside from that, the day is free…

more mixed feelings….

Convicted molester seeks OK to marry

A woman begged a Broward circuit judge Thursday for permission to marry the man she loves: John Medlock, convicted child molester.

His fiancée, Katherine Anderson, says she wants to marry Medlock as soon as possible and have him move in with her and her children, a 10-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl.

Anderson told Circuit Judge Marc Gold that she was aware of her fiancĂ©’s prison record.

“Before we even started dating, he showed me all of his paperwork,” Anderson said. “He’s a wonderful man. He’s about to be ordained as a minister at our church.”

the whole story is here-

Now, he’s served what the law feels is his time… and I think that he should have the right to marry, if the family is willing to accept him… but I honestly don’t think I could forget his past. Forgiving an admitted sexual predator? I don’t know if I could. I know I wouldn’t want the wedding happening to someone I cared deeply about… I’d have trouble working in the same office with the guy. I get angry just thinking about it.

ugh.

found out that the data is going ot be *really* late tonight, and we’re sending some of the servers out for service. Owie. I’m going to be here for a while.

good thing I have LJ, the net, and my book to keep me occupied while I wait!

Confirmed gourd-hunting plans with Robb, tomorrow, and maybe will see best in show, too.

not sure what other movies are out there… I guess I’ll find out after surfing some more!

Here we go.

Friday. Payday. Little Bro can’t get to get her this weekend, and C&D are going to Dizzy World for Cathi’s Birfday. Robb got his part of his project done, so maybe he and I can do something this weekend.. Upon reflection, Dave & Busters was quite fun, and not nearly as expensive as I’d assumed. Silly writing folder is still wacky, but it should be better by Sunday.

I want one of these psychotic hand-puppets! (see pic, if today is 10/20/00)

MMmmMM… also have to make some banana bread. yummy.

Getting Cathi a fountain, I think for her b’day…. not sure what sort yet, but the weekend will hook me up.

Ah, home at last. :)

Worked to a decent hour, then went out to dinner, and a few games of pool with Robb. He’s quite good… and I’m quite bad. My only saving grace was that he’s bd at getting the last ball in at 9-ball. The servers at dave and busters are quite attractive, and while paying the bill, one of the girls there offered to let me take home a pool ball. I accepted, then she said she was kidding. Wacky servers! Had a girl whose first night was tonight…she did good, but was semi-pokey. All of the folks there are quite professional and friendly. The food’s good.

Robbo pointed me at this site. Technical Virgin. It made me laugh , long and loud.

Welcome to my wall scrawls.
