I got so caught up in Sedef’s passing, that I forgot that it was my Father’s Birthday today. That’s not even it… I didn’t realize that today was the 25th until I looked at the memo for this afternoon’s company meeting – Sort of a punch on top of a punch there. I’ll update/ do the comparison thing tomorrow, probably.

I can’t believe that in 5 more years, there won’t be any more age comparison items… He passed at 44 years old – I’m 39, now.

BHK is working at the food bank tomorrow with Kim Martucci and co at WUSA9. I bet they’ll have a good time doing good works – I wish I could go with ’em!

Got my Holiday scheduled for 12/24-1/2 this time around. I’ll still be "on call", but hopefully there won’t be many fires to put out.

Well, I’m ready for bed – BHK made some fantastic quiche to go with dinner salad, so I’m packed to the gills. Combine that with a little TV, and I’m zonked. I’m caught up with the shield, now – not sure what other tivo’ed things to consult next. Journeyman? Eli Stone?

I’m watching Dexter on the PSP during the Metro trip into work. 3 episodes in now, and It’s not too bad thus far. I still really don’t find myself sympathetic to him – still seems quite the monster, despite his only "killing bad people". I guess I just like my protagonist to be a good guy, and not a serial killer.

Feeling better today. Physical Therapy seems to be working out some of the back issues, thankfully. Mentally and physically in a more positive place – also, sundown was at 4:45 today. I certainly suspect that I don’t have Seasonal Affective Disorder. I think that the dark and cold weather mostly suits me, even if I try to be a warm and cheery sort of person.

After PT we went to Mexico for supper. I was perversely hungry for Mexican food after seeing a filthy Mexican resaurtant on Kitchen Nightmares yesterday. The food was superb – BHK and I both sussed out that it was the cook that sometimes works in Lusby on the kitchen tonight.

My mom met Shannon and her possible granddaughter – (well, by proxy – Shannon is still pregnant, due in a month or so.) I’m still not sure how that’s going to pan out.

Newt is really enjoying the ledge in the loft these days… one of the warmest spots in the house! I hope he shares with Pye, at least a bit. Hm.. somehow I doubt it. Interesting that his winter coat is a bit more visible than usual – likely that he and Pye were running around pretty heavily before naptime.

Physical Therapy today. Leg lifts, stretches, bicycle, and then the stim/heat combo that works so well for me. I needed it – I was really stiff yesterday.

Forgot to mention yesterday that Chris and Larry brought over a couple of preacher cookies for us… much better than the last batch a year ago – see archive below.

While I was fixing BHK’s machine, I was multitasking a bit – catching up with scripting, listening to old episodes of Dragnet in the background – The radio show is really superior to the TV series. Additionally – I listened a bit to some of my old time radio broadcasts. OTRcat sent me a nice collection of Richard Diamond not too long ago in exchange for a link on my website – the clarity on them was excellent, especially given that the condition of the original recordings must’ve been a real problem to fix. I’ll be looking to go back to him for more OTR goodies as time goes by. Dick Powell is no slouch as a voice actor, and I’m really pretty glad to have my collection filled out. (5 CDs worth of stuff, I’ve only begun to begin to listen. (I’m thinking about getting the Edgar Allan Poe Collection next – maybe for road trips through Baltimore)

Today I spent most of the day inside – cold out there, and my back is tricking up. I’m glad tomorrow is physical therapy! BHK and the inlaws did some yardwork in the chill while I did repairs in the heat, with the kitties inside.

Speaking of the kitties, I dreamt that we were in the green truck, returning form taking Newton and Pye somewhere – I had just off-loaded Newt in the house, when the truck drove off – Someone had made off with the vehicle and Pye! … it made it about a block and a half before BHK and I caught up with it – turned out that Pye was driving, a la Toonces. I was dumbfounded, but BHK just snatched him up and brought him inside the house, scolding him fiercely. I remember looking at the cabin of the truck, and trying to muddle out how he accomplished it – BHK was more interested in telling him "NO! BAD KITTY! You’re too young to drive!"(and this is true, as he is only 4.)

Picture taken on the way home last night – Christmas is in the air, already. Normally, I like to wait until after thanksgiving, but I love the more basic stuff… Lit up trees and misty nights.

I spent some time fixing BHK’s laptop – the boot volume was toasted somehow. Fortunately, it was just a job for chkdsk /r and a little patience for the cleanup.

After the folks left, bhk made a mighty salad – garbonzos, spinache, cabbage, and whatever other good things in the house (pumpkin seeds and meatless baco-things on mine!), served with some beans and rice for bulk. It felt really good.

After allergy shots (and a chit-chat with Kendall’s Mom) BHK and I went to Gina’s Cantina for lunch and  took an extended walk around annapolis today – despite Britney chiding us for not seeing "Twilight" the sparkly vampire yet, we skipped hitting the movies.

I got a lot of christmas shopping done, but BHK didn’t have my luck. Despite our having gone to a little computer show, I couldn’t see any really amazing deals.

Spoke briefly with Danny this afternoon while on the road – apparently the new tolkien calendar isn’t so great, just landscapes. I figues we can get him a better calendar than that for the holidays. BHK commented on hobbits in bikinis. It wouldn’t surprise me if there were such a thing.

Friday!

Date night! Where are we off to? Christmas Lights in Annapolis, I think. I’m looking forward to a nice weekend with BHK – it seem slong overdue.

I suspect that JJ Abrams will make it tough for me to interest BHK in the new star Trek movie. (She wasn’t too crazy about Cloverfield… or Lost. or Fringe… or.. ) For that matter, I gave up on Season 2 of Lost, episode 1 of Fringe, and Swarm of the Snakehead is more my idea of a fun monster movie than Cloverfield. – all of which fairly split me from most of the Science Fiction fans out there.

However, I still want to see the new trek, even if it is 90210 in outer space, with Winona Ryder, and Bana as a Romulan with a Scottish Accent. I think I’ve got her sold on the gal who plays uhura and the guy from Harold and kumar.

A quick lunchtime fill-in.

More Flurries this morning – I’ve been having a rough time lately with my back and the cold, but it’s getting a bit better as I go.

Moodwise,  I’ve been feeling pretty down here and there for the last month or so – Stress, back issues, and some poor gut-level stuff. I’m working on feeling better about things – I just have to remind myself that there is a positive destination in sight. I’m glad that BHK and the kitties are on my team, and that my teeth are all fixed.

Some good things ahead – 4-day weekend for Thanksgiving, Christmas is coming, Computer seems to be working well.

BHK and I have made some headway with new friends – The Manspergers and Shaun W. It’s always nice to meet nice people and goof with them. Alice came out of the woodwork, and we spent the day with her at the museum after a spot of lunch at papermoon.

One or two of our other friends have dwindled into the mists recently – Who knows if we’ll get a chance to hang out for the holiday(s) in the next month or so? I haven’t really seen hide nor hair of Tina or Cyn – maybe BHK and I can lure some folks (new or old) up to Gina’s Cantina for some snackies sometime soon.

Speaking of snackies – BHK made some pea soup, with a side of boca burger sammich (replay of yesterday’s foodies)…. good stuff, just right for the weather today. I’d best get on that.

Friday- nice to see it back again. It was foggy beyond belief yesterday, and continues today.

Last night’s supper of Chinese food from the Octagon was pretty good – I only wish they hadn’t packaged the general tso’s tofu in such a way that I got it all over my work pants and jacket while driving home.

Back was tweaking up something fierce – I wonder if the barometric pressure was a factor, or all that fog?

BHK is using her super legal-powers to help with the condo issues – looks like we might get this thing ironed out after all!

While she looked up condo legal-ese, I did some back stretches,  overdue computer stuff, and checked out the demo of Left4Dead… that’s a beautiful game right there. The artwork is pretty top notch, and I really like the team play aspect. That’ll probably be my next purchase afte rI swim through Fallout 3 some more. Maybe someday I’ll get around to finishing the later episodes of HL2.

In other gaming news, BHK picked me up a new gaming joystick via freecycle. Can’t beat free hardware!

This weekend, we are likely to skip JohnCon, and instead go to Geppi’s Entertainment Museum. (I wonder if my metropass will count for $2 OFF GO GREEN! Show your ticket stub for public transportation for that day and receive $2 off admission to Geppi’s Entertainment Museum.)

Lunch today of "chicken" nuggets and mac&cheese was dang tasty. perfect for a cool, misty day

Got off work, and the Element has recovered from the hit we took from the deer. It still smells a bit of paint, but looks good as new.

Traffic was HORRID today. It took us forever to get anywhere!

BHK, Larry, Chris and I went to Selby – I guess the owners are looking to retire, sadly. I guess we had better get the pizza while we can!

The Washington Post is reporting that the shutdown of one hosting company has caused the total volume of spam to drop by 2/3rds. The company in question is McColo Corp. Both Hurricane Electric and Global Crossing pulled the plug today after a damning report revealed a number of illegal activities happening on McColo’s servers.

Just as FYI – the prior entry was that of a pair of clowns being sucked into a pneumatic tube.

Was late to the Metro this morning, so BHK rolled me all the way in – we had time to get a hot chocolate and a cinnamon cake, one or both of which made us both a little on the ill side come 10:30/11am. Last strike for that place – just as well, since *$ is a real money sink, and the tassimo makes better coffee and hot chocolate.

Work was steady today – and I’m brushing up on my Bash shell script powers – perl wasn’t the way to go on one of my projects, it seems. I’m developing new skills in GPG as well, out of necessity.

Lunch of veggie "turkey" roast on pumpernickel with gouda and spicy mustard did just the trick. root veggies make me happy too. Pumpkin pie yogurt is still weird, but November appropriate. Banana was out of sync, but yummy.

Recently St. Lucie County in Florida announced that it has teamed up with Geoplasma to develop the United States’ first plasma gasification plant. The plant will use super-hot 10,000 degree Fahrenheit plasma to effectively vaporize 1,500 tons of trash each day, which in turn spins turbines to generate 60MW of electricity — enough to power 50,000 homes!

– Is it wrong to think that it would be the source of a really perfect crime? What a solid way to dispose of a body, evidence, etc…

Topps announced that "WizKids will immediately cease operations and discontinue its product lines."

Just heard about the gaming thing up at Johns Hopkins is happening this weekend. Maybe I can wrangle swinging by there after going to lunch at paper moon with BHK and Alice. If anyone is in the area and of a mind, maybe we could have a little visit, too. I wanted to maybe get a little game time in with Cath and Haas, but schedules didn’t work out for us – maybe this is a happy medium. Note to self, send a facebook invite.

Maybe BHK and I will get in a round of GURPS space? (noon to 5 – likely not. Lunch date, and all) Or at least a game of chrononauts or something in freeplay time. Maybe I should bring Hive or something small and portable to play..I wouldn’t mind a quick game of werewolf or chez geek.

Left work a bit early today to hit up physical therapy. Got some ultrasound, heat and electrical stim work done.

I think heat and stim combined are the most beneficial to me right now. I’ll likely go back to using the TENS box at home more frequently.

The exercises seem to be more beneficial – leg stretches, pelvic tilts, and some mild hip twists. – I did them when I got home, and I feel pretty good about it – let’s see how I feel with morning tightness in play. I’m a little concerned about how taut my back is going to be upon waking tomorrow – I’m pretty worn out, and will likely hit the sack shortly. I’m going to continue doing the yoga and just add to my nightly workout.

Watched Big Bang Theory, while eating a nice dose of leftover cabbage soup a la BHK and buttered bread knots – good stuff, perfect for a briskly chilly night. The cats are sure to be in bed with us this evening for the whole of the night, despite Newt and Pye’s evening house-run marathon habit.

Today was a good day, all told. My trepidation about going back to PT is fairly unwarranted, thus far.

Beard all the way off today! Zip-zip! Not sure when it’ll be back, but I wager it’ll return eventually.

Shots were a little rough – I think Danielle was preoccupied.

A couple of nifty things today –

installed the new power supply and fan for the PC today – seems to be going well – the video chip varies between 133F and 171F, depending on if I’m surfing the web or playing fallout 3 for an extended period. seems a little hot, but the blower cools the guts of the system pretty quickly.

Had a little late lunch, BHK made a wonderful early supper at 4ish with Jay, Shaun, Baby Duncan and the in-laws. – veggie "turkey" roast, stuffed peppers for the carnivores (with ground real turkey) roasted root veggies, pumpkin bread, and mac and cheese – really good stuff!

Chris and Larry brought chick-fil-a nuggets, and homemade baked apples – which were a hit with 1 year old Duncan.

Shaun and Jay brought some spicy deviled eggs – good stuff… I was the slacker, and just arranged crackers, olives, cheese, dip and veggies.

Autumn is hitting us like gangbusters… sweep the back porch off, wait 20 minutes and repeat. I’m not talking about just a few leaves, either – layers inches deep, in some places. The trees won’t have much more to drop next week, if this keeps up.

The colors outside right now are beautiful. lots of oranges, bright reds and yellows. BHK and I are in agreement – we both like the trees that go through a progressive change, all on the same plant. green leave son the bottom, bright yellow in the middle, and darker orange-brown on top.

Let’s see – what’s new?

Well, Shaun W came over for supper with BHK and me – veggie/stuffed cabbage, mac & cheese, and a ton of snacks.

Played –

Monty Python Fluxx – Cute game, I like it! Shaun Won.

Early American Chrononauts – A classic – BHK won.

The a-MAZE-ing labyrinth – BHK won, yet again.

Me, I got a good dinner and some fun chitty-chat time with folks. I’m good 🙂

Oh yeah, and Obama swept the presidential election! Good on you, Big O! He’s got a lot of work ahead of him – I hope he’s up to the task!

We may make game night a semi-regular occurrence, but I can’t do the past 11pm thing on a “school night”. Staying up late for the election was a special circumstance, and I’m glad I did.

Additional – looks like it’s time for a new power supply for D1000y ( http://help-site.com/Hardware/Computers/Desktops/HP/Pavilion_d1000/Pavilion_d1000y/ ) . While I was dressing for work this morning, BHK called me over to have a whiff – the poor guy smells like burning christmas tree lights. I rather hope it’s just the PSU – and nothing else major. Until a fix or replace, surfing from pyecam lappie, I guess!
