Storm Isaias has mostly passed over us, and we remain largely unaffected save for a few hours of power outage. Neighbors have fared similarly well, with a few fallen branches, but minimal damage to health and home.

Swampwalk isolation day 143
Morning walk at 730, after a heavy rain early this morning made the shade cooler, but as the sun grew stronger the mist turned to a steam bath. August gotta August, man.
While in the cooler morning shade, I saw a new [to me] neighborhood cat, that looked a *lot* like old neighbor cat Archie Wood from about a decade ago. Totally fluffernutter – longhaired orange/tan and white mix, just laying out on a front lawn, belly and paws soaking up the morning dew, looking very contented. That alone made the walk worth my while. No sign of Panda or AlienCat.
Other critters spotted were six squirrels, a gold finch, two ospreys, one turkey vulture, a few small brown birds I couldn’t identify, and a good size gang of gnats cloud-swarming in a six foot tall column. (They did not successfully communicate with me, nor did the column try to take human shape, thankfully)
An animal I did not see directly went rushing though the thick foliage on the other side of the water, gave me a bit of a fright. It was big, most likely a deer. I was more concerned it might be another human or maybe a coyote like the one I saw a few years back. The brush and leaves shook not unlike old Kong moving through the jungles of Skull Island, where you could see the wake of motion without spotting the beastie itself. I apologize to the probable deer for disturbing their breakfast.
With that, I think I am due some breakfast myself. Mrs made a yummy quiche that is calling my name. She went gangbusters this weekend, making that, a blueberry pie, stuffed cabbage, green curry veggies and homemade hummus. I am glad that her cooking skills are so awesome. Once we wade through those delicious leftovers, I am going to figure something to do with the pseudo beef, maybe meatballs or burgers?
We still have some eggs left, maybe devil some or make another quiche with broccoli and soysage? Stir fry is a possibility too. We have a nice selection of peppers.

Swampwalk isolation day 139 Left at about 730am and it was already 77°F. I was hoping it would get my blood pumping and wake me up a bit after a rough night sleeping. It did not work. I got some good walking in, and took a good stumble but at least it was onto soft dirt. No noticable damage to me or the swamp, save for a minor dirt dent in the forest floor. Good to be home now, in AC, and a shower will feel good once I cool down. Mosquitoes were more active, but not horrendous. Minimal bird or squirrel activity, no sign of cats or other fauna. Masks are officially on in Maryland for the moment, despite a few dipthongs being angry about having to be cautious to protect other people. From the announcement “Effective this Friday, July 31 at 5 p.m., we are expanding the current statewide masking order requiring the wearing of masks or face coverings in the public spaces of all businesses across the state. Face coverings will also be required at outdoor public areas whenever it is not possible to maintain physical distancing. This expansion of the masking order is an action that is fact-based, apolitical, and solidly grounded in science. While it can be an inconvenience, especially in the heat, the science and the data are very clear: wearing masks is the single best mitigation strategy we have to fight this virus. It is the best way to keep you and your family safe, to keep people out of the hospital, and to keep Maryland open for business.
