“The word Abraxas was engraved on certain antique stones, called Abraxas stones, which were used as amulets or charms by Gnostic sects. The image most associated with Abraxas is that of a composite creature with the head of a rooster, the body of a man, and legs made of serpents or scorpions; carrying a whip and shield. The Gnostics identified Abraxas with Yahweh (under the Greek form “IAO”). Amulets and seals bearing the figure of Abraxas were popular in the 2nd century, and these stones survived in the treasuries of the middle ages.

Abraxas appears on the seal of a Templar Grand Master in a French charter dated 1214…”

Social isolation day #767

Panda the cat appears! He was spying on the bird feeder, but at a respectable distance. He is caught on squirrel cam every now and then. He is a very beefy fellow… lives a few houses over, frequently hangs out on our deck or yard. I see him frequently when I go on swampwalks… i think our roaming range is about the same, though I only see him in the civilized area of my walks, not in the woods.

I worry about him, because folks on the primary street he lives on aren’t the most careful drivers. He generally sticks to fence tops and grassy areas, but I have seen him crossing the road on occasion. I wonder if Miss Pearl would recognize him? I imagine he will be on the deck when she is by the screen door, eventually.

Photograph shows a giant bat roost in San Antonio, Texas with a sign: “A home for bats and belongs to the City of San Antonio. Bats are one of man’s best friends, because they eat mosquitoes and mosquitoes cause chills, fevers and other diseases”.

The man standing on roost is Dr. Charles Augustus Rosenheimer Campbell (1865-1931) who advocated for the roost to be built.

Between ca. 1910 and ca. 1915
