7256- pictures, sounds and a couple of words, too.

I’m getting about quite a few hits a day from the readablog feed search engine. I’m wondering what search queries are bringing ’em in?

Banksy installing four pieces in New York’s most prestigious museums – The Brooklyn Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, and the Museum of Natural History.

Dressed as a British pensioner, over the last few days Banksy entered each of the galleries and attached one of his own works, complete with author name plaque and explanation.

Yesterday’s audio moment with the mentally ill – Laughing boy. What was my ride from home to the blood center like? Play that 14-second clip on repeat for about 25 minutes. I was bordering on mild lunacy myself by the time I got to my stop.

Photos from yesterday

7250 – many fragments. all in a row.

Good Day Sunday. Random standing in line fraternization at Einstein’s with a Brazilian girl who was convinced that eyes are the gateway to the soul. She told me that she could tell that I was a kind and gentle person by looking there. Well, If I have to take a big-guy cliche, I’d certainly prefer to fall in to the gentle giant (rather than the rampaging man-child, hulking dolt or savage bully). We chatted for a bit, and got along famously. She has a 7-year old son and is going to be getting two kitties after they move next weekend. I advised her to make ’em indoor kitties, because of the city. Serena is a short (5’2ish?), slightly built gal with angular but very attractive features. Very thick, long brown hair (Just about to the tailbone) with a slight wave to it, makes mine look short in comparison. Big Brown Eyes. Lunchtime conversation was quite nice, and I gave her my number. She mentioned that once she gets a land-line that she might need help getting on the internet (especially in getting mp3s and burning music) with her laptop and I offered to be of service. She doesn’t smoke, only drinks in moderation, and knew that it was the first day of Spring. No visible tattoos, wore a crucifix on a thin gold chain and small gold stud earrings, Didn’t know it was Palm Sunday and had never heard of Passion Sunday, doesn’t eat bacon (or any kind of pork… she had a chicken and some sort of veggies on a sesame seed bagel, with orange juice). Her major at university was communications, and now works in public relations.

wow, that was weirdly written. mental fragments ripped from my head a little at a time. The majority of those factoids were drawn out with basic conversation.

Not a huge fan of Conan, but the Walker:Texas Ranger clips kill me. BEAR TRAP! PUNCH!

Random Scotto Factoid: It’s my belief that homeopathy is another word for placebo. Which is to say that it can work for people sometimes… the power of suggestion is a strong one. But I think the theory of super-dilution is a bit off. To the best of my knowledge, no homeopathic remedy has ever been shown to work in a large randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial.

Walkabout pics from Saturday

7165 – I’m reminded of those Mexican crows.

Woo! Lovely Birthday Prezzie came in the mail yesterday! Thanks mucho, kindly little doo-bee! I’ve been wanting to read it since I knew it was compiled in one volume.

My cable went out last night for about an hour. The house is a lot more quiet with no tv sounds in it, filling the background.

Bad juju yesterday. Monday, throughout. New moon today, maybe things will start fresh along with it.

Anyone want to bring me a Kind Veggie Burrito with Falafel, or some “Nothing died for this chili” chili?

They also give out free condoms.

Wow, Ol’ Supes really is a jerk, isn’t he?

7121 – I want Spider-man as an assistant!

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Westchester County has hired an expert on “cyberbullying” to talk to students, teachers, parents and police about young people who harass their peers with mean-spirited Web sites, hounding text messages, invasive cell-phone photos and other high-tech tools.

Parry Aftab, executive director of wiredsafety.org, will conduct a “summit” on the issue Feb. 8 at the Westchester County Center, County Executive Andrew Spano announced Tuesday.

She will be assisted by Spider-Man under an arrangement between her organization and Marvel Enterprises Inc. “Kids will listen to him,” she said.

Not getting as much of a Mel fix as I’d like this week… Sunday will take care of that. I hope her Gramma is repairing quickly.

Yahoo’s Image Search may be better than Google’s Image Search.

I can still amuse myself for hours by typing in random word/word combinations.

The friendy-meme. (revised a mite)

In the comments section of this post:

1. Tell me one thing you like about me.

2. Tell me two things you like about yourself.

Then…

3. Look through the comments. When you see someone you know, tell them three things you like about them.

4. Do this in your journal so I can tell you what I like about YOU. (or just ask, and I’ll tell you here.)

6942 – Free from the chains that bind. They Chafed this week.

Saturday, at last, at last.

What to do? Where to go? Morning chores are laid out for me… laundry and cleaning, but after that, the day is free for the taking.

Maybe I’ll just hop a city bus and see where it goes.

I hear that CS is back at school taking random courses in some sort of quest for a meaningful direction, now that he’s disenchanted with the computer field. I think that sounds rather wasteful of funds, but I don’t know the whole story.

He’s going to hit some trouble, I think. From what I’ve seen of his personality, he’s not going to find anything that works for him. I only hope that he’s not milking his girlfriend, bleeding her dry while he seeks some direction.

Cutie-Newtie

Whoops.. took a little morning nap, and forgot to post! Hard to do chores with a comfy bed and a snuggly Newt! Until later…I’m off to do the washing, dear journal!

6938 – Cellular, Modular, Interactive-odular!

Happy Birthday, Shah-Hala!!

Happy Birthday!
Her birth was a great present to us all. Many thanks to her parents!!

Something she’d like, I’m sure – murder scenes scaled to dollhouse size, used to teach forensic science in the ’40s.

It's the Gray Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!Gray Pumpkin forwarded a link to me about Mary-Sues (the phenomenon where an author somewhat unwittingly makes a character in their story who is basically the author, or an idealized/fantasy version of the author.)

The Original Fiction Mary-Sue Litmus Test

We were both reminded of a person in our old group who hit almost all of these points with her fiction.

Went out with Danny last night to Ugly Tuna Saloona. We didn’t have the interest or time for a movie, but we enjoyed the hangout quite a lot… its a quiet joint in the early evening, and the servers were very attentive. (We had the same server we had last time, and I think that we were remembered from our last visit about a month ago.) I think we’ve found a new hangout! We still need to check out the new casino.

Big Kahuna called right as we were sitting down … she wanted me to go back to the office and burn a cd, but fortunately it can wait until this morning.

I do my follow-up presentation at Kiwanis today, too.

6931 – roaming

My mind is at last free of clutter… the coolness of the weather permits me to amble gently and at great length.

Despite my outings recently, I feel that only just now has a season truly arrived where both creative and physical comfort can be attained. Gravity doesn’t seem to maintain such a grasp on my form… I wonder how much more at home in the colder places I’d be, or if I’m just inside an optimal climate window. I suspect the latter to be most probable.

Today is just Monday… a whole week ahead.

Newt Profile – 10/9/04
Can’t go too long without taking his picture! He was hyp-mo-tized by a light outside.

Transformers
Transformers
Not robots in disguise.

Scary, humming crackling things that probably toss off white and blue sparks when I’m not looking.

Transformers 2
Transformers 2
A bit further back on the walk. Humming is all but imperceptible here.

Alleyway, the other side
Alleyway, the other side
I usually apporach the riverwalk from the other side, but the alleyway was well-lit and unoccupied so I figured I’d travel the backroad a bit. Everything in this neck of the woods is barred off or locked tight… it’s rather intimidating after nightfall.

Take/ Basi?

I have no idea what this graffito means.

A&E Trolley
A&E Trolley
Starting on October 8th, there’s a trolly that will take you up and down the art & science district, free of charge. Friday nights, and all day saturday, running every 10-15 minutes. I may take more advantage of them next week… but for now, it was just cute to ride along. I got an unforseen shortcut home (saved me a 9 block walk, and I talked to the conductor who was from Quincy, MA. Nice Guy, though he hasn’t broken the New England mindset to the more bohemian South Florida, yet.

random snap of a gal singing at latin fest. She was really belting out some number I never heard before, but wouldn’t mind hearing again. Halfway between torch song and rhythm-pop.

AOL Latino
AOL Latino
Wow! If you thought AOL “en Ingles” was lousy, just wait until you try AOL LATINO!!

MUY ETHNICO!

MUY PEYO!!

Seriously, I got free wireless access while standing next to the aol booth. If the commercial network isn’t secure… how much do you think they care about customer security?

They had some deal if you promised to use aol latino for a year, you could have a fair bare-bones system with a 17 inch monitor and color printer (dial-up) for $300. I could see where that would make a lot of people happy.

but still.

Birdie graffiti
Kind of cool. Somone drew a picture on glue-backed paper, and posted this doorknob-height bird on the side of the building. I’ve been seeing more and more of these style postings around town… I guess it’s easier than doing it on site, and getting caught?

6923 – Bus Ride – about 4:30

route 40 – Crowded
Ride home, step 1 – route 40.

Large crowd today.. I wonder if the bus prior broke down. Standing room only! We actually had to turn down riders near the end of the path.

route 40 - Crowded
Propaganda Man
This is what the guy played by Mel Gibson in conspiracy theory actually looks like. An old man, backpack full of carefully folded photocopies of his screed of the week. It’s generally typed, and then edited with pen afterwards. Adding to the spooky-factor, he refuses to make eye contact with anyone.
Propaganda Man
Paranoid man, part 2
Whistling while he works, he takes his stack of semi-political, but mostly misc-rant fliers, and sets to placing them in the bus-route maps…. for reinsertion into the holder. I’ve found his screeds in the local free newspapers, too.

6918 – Happy b-day, Noot!

Newt is *five* years old today! He’s still a little babyhead to me. Here’s to my favorite red-fuzzed libran quadruped.

Aww! Regal-Noot

Here are some baby pictures… it seems like it was only yesterday.

American Date formatting is a pet peeve of mine… I think that “Month-Day-Year” makes the very least sense possible. I think that “Year-Month-Day” or “Day-Month-Year” is a bit more rational. Ah well… I like the metric system, too.
