It’s amazing that I managed to stay mostly un-rained on all day long.

6778 – Yawn a more Roman way!

Nice Trip to the Seaquarium Yesterday.
Some snapshots, more to follow as I clean ’em up.
6772 – Nuts and doodles.

Doodled on the way home yesterday.

nifty! (via flying_blind, by way of waning_estrogen.)
In HoL, I’m now a level 3 Frog Director. The spooky forest is nifty.
6771 – ahh… cooling precipitation!
This is *exactly* what was needed. Ah, 81F, and the humidity has been rained to the ground.
nice, nice. about time.
6767 Newt asked me this earlier.

He usually says “mer?”
I think I’ll go to the Seaquarium some Saturday soon. I want to see one of the baby manatees before he’s returned to the wild, but the rehabilitation pools understandably aren’t open to the public.
Want to sponsor a baby manatee?
Come to think of it, it’s so warm out lately that I bet there’s a number of manatees just up the street. I’ll have to swing by and see.
The term “coagulated blood” is on my mind today. I’m not sure why.
I could go for a Twinkie right now… or some angel food cake with strawberry preserves. And have a dip in a nice freshwater lake. And a smooch from my sweetheart. Throw in some shade-trees over that lake.
Nice.
Dan’s changing the color scheme of his website. I think it looks fairly nice and cheery as-is, even though the colors were slapped in quickly, just to show him how the boxes delineate. I can see him going with a monochrome blue… and I don’t see it looking as fun.
6766 Photo Mission pics up
Wow, Rob works fast. He already posted my findings to his site, and about bunch of other locations, too.
No big outdoor journey today… the allure of air-conditioning and slacking overtook me this time around. Played way too much CoH, caught up on my reading, and wrestled with a happy little Newt for a few hours.
Dinner tonight is cinnamon applesauce, green beans, and riblets. good stuff. Not sure why, but I’m feeling a little bleh today, even though I’ve taken it easy. On call all day tomorrow, so we’ll see what that brings, besides delivery Chinese food.
6763 – the journey home
More pictures of travel from Miami back to Fort Lauderdale
It was a long day, and I was happy to be heading back to the homefront.
6760 – museum pix, waiting for news on my condo, misc
The condo owners are out of town… silly for them to list it and not be available until later, but, whatever. I’ll know more today, I think.
Did the guy that invented combos see a snausage, and think it would be tasty for people to have a snack like that.. or was it the other way around, benefiting dogs?
Intelligent observation overheard ages ago – “Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit; wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.”
I can’t believe that a single packet of ramen noodles is considered to be “three servings”. That’s almost as bad as the “two fig newtons per serving” rule. Who decides this stuff? Very full people who aren’t so hungry and don’t like the product?
Random ramen factoids –
- “Ramen” is the Japanese pronunciation of the Chinese characters lo mein, which means “boiled noodles.”
- Ramen was popularized in Japan by a 17th century samurai named Mito Komon. You can see Mito’s actual ramen bowl and a reproduction of his favorite meal in the Momofuku Ando Instant Ramen Museum in Osaka, Japan. The museum that attracts 1500 visitors a day–more than Japan’s national art museum.
I’m in the mood to watch the Rockford Files again.
Random Scotto Factoid: I had trouble remembering the difference between definitions for vertical and diagonal, until I learned the word vertigo. Likewise, horizontal was never a problem, because I already knew the word horizon. I learn better by association, rather than simply by rote.
6757 – put a bid down…
Last night I reviewed and put a bid down on a condo. Nice neighborhood, the place is a very roomy one bedroom (much bigger than my last apartment, let along my little studio) in excellent physical shape, and in a nice neighborhood.
I’ll know if my offer was accepted this afternoon…it just came on the market yesterday morning, and nobody was in line in front of me, as far as I know.
I’ve got my fingers crossed.
Hm… I thought that they weren’t doing any more There-upgrades, but I just got notification that I’m back in the beta, and it’s been upgraded. Maybe it’s not going dark as soon as I thought.
6756 – Journey, part 4, Sinister BBC series edition
Some things that seem taken from the set of The Prisoner TV series
6755 – Journey, part 3 – brides, brides everywhere, and not a one to wed
Many women in bridal gowns or the like were there on Saturday. I suspect a photo shoot for a magazine, but there wasn’t a lot of camera technology there.. just handheld cameras, none of those wacky reflector-umbrellas, makeup folks or people with light meters that I saw at the last shoot I witnessed in Fort Lauderdale. Maybe they didn’t need it with all of the natural light as nice as it was? Maybe the production values were just lower. In any event, they added a nice ambiance to the visit.
6754 – Journey, part 2 – Vandals, Statues, Lego
O Muse!
Sing in me, and through me tell the story
Of that man skilled in all the ways of contending,
A wanderer, harried for years on end…
Something worth mentioning about the trip of Saturday… It seemed like every common room had large white urns in them, with remains of someone or other inside. It was interesting at first and later became almost the theme of the house, which was fairly ostentatious.. makes Cinderella’s castle look like a grass shack.
I had hoped that the misting garden was open, but it wasn’t.. it’s a great way to cool off if you don’t mind getting a little wet.
6753 – The day out was lovely, though hot and steamy.
HAPPY 4th of JULY! I know I’m glad to be as free as I am.
So, Vizcaya it was. I walked the house (sadly, no photography inside was allowed) Outside, however, is another story entirely… so, I took a lot of pictures. )though, not all the pictures below are mine) There was *so* much statuary, and such extensive Mediterranean gardens that I could’ve stayed there all day… but the beating of the sun got to me after walking around in it from late morning to about 3pm, even with the cool breeze off of the water, and the gigantic fruit smoothie I was gunning down at a record pace.
Something nifty was that there was either a photo-shoot for a bridal magazine going on, or three different wives-to-be were all being captured on film in different parts of the outside, too. At times, it seemed as if I couldn’t take a picture without snagging a gal in a white dress and gloves someplace in the shot. (and I took a few deliberate shots, too… it’s to the gal’s merit how composed they were in the aforementioned super-sun beams. There was also a “Red White & Blue” celebration planned for the evening, with some rasta-guys working the soundboard. Unfortunately, I wasn’t up to staying there to the 9pm launch time.
I took so many photos that it’ll take me a while to sort the wheat from the chaff. I’ll toss in a few each entry as I go through ’em. Explanations of each are beneath the picture in question.
6750 – misc.
7/2/04 8:13 pm @ the laundry, once again.
no wireless today… It looks like the doctor next door shut down for the long weekend. No matter, I have plenty of things to read or write offline.
Ü – The Shoo-smilie. I still prefer it to 🙂 or ^_^ for a happy face.
hungry for Chinese takeout tonight, but I think I’ll hold out until Sunday call.
I haven’t been in reading mode this week… Still reading, but not the massive quantities usually digested.
Tired eyes, awake mind this evening. Maybe a music night… maybe a horseplay night with Newt.
8:57pm place started empty, but now hopping with people. got to love the variety… mostly young people.
For no good reason whatsoever, my bootup image on the palm –
6749 – It’s easy to knuckle-walk while holding a screwdriver.
Apparently I have a “repair aura” this morning.
I “fixed” the fax machine with my presence… I merely walked by, giving it a look and it clicked on, dutifully sending pages to assorted points around the world…perhaps it was afraid of getting some of what the router in the other room got once I was through with it. Don’t make me get all “Office Space / Bolton” on your booty, Mr. Fax.
Elusively skulking from workstation to workstation, the Scotto-yeti wanders into the underbrush of into the server-room, to be sure all is well in his electrical glade and plasti-formed work grotto.
The other nearby fauna are often nearby, and show little to no fear of wandering into our quiet ursine anthropoid’s foraging zone. Amongst them are any number of beasties, ranging from the pleasanty quiet and unassuming V-mouse to the loud, peevish clucking of a Rhode Island hen, scratching at the the gound and generally making a mess. Fortunately the buttergnome and the pebble-kicking wombat are occupied elsewhere lately. I wonder what it’d take to bring a little red monkee into the grotto?
