7820 – Happy #5, Little Lexie Luthor!

Okie doke, I have the base in my checking account to cover closing costs should we get to applying for the loan. I also have all my tax and required information so we can go full speed ahead. I have left a message with the management regarding an interview, and may need to call later in the week if necessary.

From momster-

I was upset to learn that derek [bro] has left the sober house (a few weeks ago they said) I had a call from them on my house phone. I think he could have at least let me know..he will have to make arrangements to pay back the last week and the security. I hope to talk this over with him. I left a him a message. I spoke to him for a short minute yesterday..he sounded like he was drinking..I ‘m not surprised.

Stuffed animal wrongly accused on Florida sheriff’s web site Poor Llama! Set Him Free!

Current Monroe County Mugshots – at the moment, it’s mostly coke heads, vagrants and drunk drivers.

You can’t go by time in Broward, you have to enter a name, or crime type.

Some isn’t very accurate. This woman is Half a ton, and only 7 inches tall! Looks like she’s set to be released in another month or so. Apparently she’s made of white dwarf stellar matter.

I can’t seem to comment of Havagan’s journal. Where’s the fun in that? I want to rant about crappy programming gigs, and RSS feeds there! No dice with MSIE, Mozilla fat or firefox. Humbug!

Flavor quiz, I tied for both –

7813 – Friday 5 –

1. What’s your favorite animated characters?

Old-School Daffy Duck (Lunacy, not Evil), Wile E. Coyote, Gossamer, Cap’n Simian & The Space Monkeys, Kim Possible & Gang,  Pink Panther,  Fleisher Superman,  the New JL ‘Toon, The Dover Boys at Pimento University, and many others.

2. Violence in cartoons – funny or harmful?

Funny.

3. Can you do any impressions?

A few. I can sound like a small infant crying, a pretty decent evil laugh, and assorted non-specific sounds,

4. Would you consider yourself artistic?

I consider myself to be creative… artistry is sort of a subset of that, but I don’t know if I fall into that.

5. What’s your favorite type of cheese?

Sharp Cheddar !

7800 – leeches, leeches, leeches!

Sometimes, I feel very reclusive. I like the idea of retiring to a cave. A place with a fire, a wall to draw on, and a personal store of food by an underground spring full of fresh water. Maybe an opening at the far end where the sun can get in, but not so close that rain gets everything.

Perhaps an oceanside opening, too, and a comfortable area to curl up with the Newt-cub.

Only the sound of dripping water from distant stalactites, and maybe torches flickering, leaving a little smudge on the wall where it burns a bit too close.

If there is at least one person in your life whom you consider a close friend, and whom you would not have met without the internet, post this sentence in your journal.

Actually, I have some friends that I networked to via a net-pal, and the net-pals themselves is gone.

Age of Empires III is out and about… may be my Christmas prezzie to myself. It looks gorgeous… and I imagine the gameplay will be up to the usual high standards.

More thoughts about Wallace & Gromit… They didn’t have a bunch of science fiction fans called “the Inventive Cheese-eaters” or whatnot (though it does have it’s own fans, certainly), and I’m sure the movie will do just fine on it’s opening weekend. Fans Serenity could learn a bit from that sort of cinematic Social Darwinism… Good movies will do just fine, with or without some cult-like fan base. I really rather think the name “Browncoats” is just a smidgen too close to “Brown shirts”, too. I suspect that the Browncoats didn’t do much to get people to go see the movie.. other science fiction fans were going to check it out, because they’d already heard of it, one way or another… I figure they were preaching to the choir.

Wallace and Gromit did well, I’m sure, and it’ll surprise me if it doesn’t have better opening numbers than Serenity did.

That said, RT has W&G at – 95%… that’s a pretty fantastic rating. I know it’ll be something people will want to watch on video every Halloween with Great Pumpkin and Night of the Living Dead. I can’t say that about Nightmare before Christmas. (the closest similar popular movie I can think of)

vs. Serenity at – 81%, which is still pretty respectable, considering that most fans of the show really weren’t crazy about it… (and most non-fans that I know also didn’t dig it). I guess the Joss formula of the 80 lb super-girl is still pretty marketable. Will people want to watch it in 5 years? I imagine it’ll end up on UPN as part of the recycled Sunday sci-fi movie run, along with Ghostbusters II, because the better and more popular movies will be too expensive to syndicate. (Like Ghostbusters the first)

On a tangent – some favorite Halloween movies – Usually, I like a light opener (comedy or classic) and then actual horror after.

  • It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
  • Ghostbusters
  • The Mummy (Both the Karloff original, and the Brendan Fraser vehicle)
  • Young Frankenstein
  • Night of the Living Dead
  • Alien
  • The Shining
  • The Fly (Vincent Price)
  • The Thing (Newer one) – I like to Follow up with Big Trouble in Little China
  • Evil Dead
  • Poltergeist
  • Hocus Pocus
  • Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein
  • Beetlejuice
  • The Exorcist

Just of the top of my skull.

7795 – Friday 5

1. Have you ever been to the emergency room? Yes, several times. I’ve been taken there by ambulance twice, the rest were walk-ins, usually related to bronchitis or back issues. I don’t usually have accidents with flame, sharp objects or the like.  Bro has gone far more times than me, due to accidents.

2. What’s the worst pain you’ve ever had? When my back was at it’s worst, before my  2nd surgery.. riding in a car was tortuous, scream level agony. I’d rather have all my teeth snapped in half, and be made to chew tinfoil than go through that again. I am not exagerrating.

3. If you could choose your doctor, do you prefer someone of the same or opposite sex? Doesn’t matter to me.

4. Do you take vitamins? A multi-vitamin in the morning. I sometimes suspect that vitamins are a sham, but if that’s the case, the power of the placebo effect is shining through.

5. Would you prefer to go to the doctor, the dentist or go sky diving?
Doctor, most certainly.

7785 – 10-4, good buddy!

Installed new Nvidia drivers (9/2/05 ones) and my system is looking *great*. Second life at a higher resolution and less crash issues. I’m going to reinstall farcry, and see how that does, next.

The higher res desktop frees a lot of real estate up, too. I’m impressed.. it’s like I’ve got a new system. 1280 x 1024 x 2 monitors (so it’s actually 1280 x 2048, if you want to get technical) it makes it pretty hard to revert to the 1024 x 768 single screen at work.

Big boss in Maryland today, opening the state with a press conference… If things were different with cej, I’d probably be going along as well. Oh well, it was a good run, for the most part.

This is the case peer-to-peer file sharers have been waiting for. Tanya Andersen, a 41 year old disabled single mother living in Oregon, has counter sued the RIAA for Oregon RICO violations, fraud, invasion of privacy, abuse of process, electronic trespass, violation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, negligent misrepresentation, the tort of “outrage”, and deceptive business practices.

If you can only watch one Kafkaesque Flash animation about the ennui of being a giant fat chicken-juggling bear on a unicycle in a German circus with dreams of freedom, make it this one.

Newton’s Current Kittenwar stats – Not bad!

As “Guido” has performed in 10472 battles:
# Won: 6949 (66%)

# Drawn: 903 (9%)

Got a wonderful compliment yesterday. “You have made my life a happier place…”

That’s the sort of thing that makes it worthwhile.

Newt broke the NewtCam when he knocked it off of the computer (with a vigorous tush-push), and it swung down and broke the base off of the camera proper. I thought I’d have to get a new one, but a hot glue gun rules the day.

LJ Interests meme results

  1. blowing bubbles:
I’ve always really liked soap bubbles. They’re perfectly round… defy gravity, have a slick of color all over them… and I dig how they fade to gray right before bursting.
  2. cryptozoology:
Yeti. Bigfoot. Nessie. Chupacabra. a 15-year old LJer that doesnt use words like n00b. all are fascinating, and I’d like to think that the beasties exist.
  3. folklore:
You can learn a lot about a culture by reading what it believes… old fairy tales and folk beliefs often impress me by how far on the mark they can be as how far off.
  4. herbs:
Sage & mint… something that anyone can grow at home to add a little something to cooking or folkways/ hedge-witchery (see above) I don’t grow all of my own food, but there’s a pleasure in putting something I did raise into what is prepared.
  5. journaling:
Records of the past again… my own this time, and I like reading those of many other folks, too. The best reason is so I can look back and see where people were before.. and watch them grow.
  6. music:
Pretty straightforward. I like music, just about all kinds. Solid melodies, and the sort that can move you (to cry or laugh.. or remember) the best.
  7. petroglyphs:
I like caves, and prehistoric/primative man. This is sort of a natural result of the two. I’d love to own land that had caves on it, where I could go and relax.
  8. science:
aquiring knowledge and buildng on it can be a delight. science is a great tool.
  9. thunderstorms:
they bring me peace. good nap weather, lightshows, wate ron glass combine to a favored mood.
  10. westerns:
Distinctly american, and overly romanticised at times, something that happeend only 120 years ago or so seems another planet away. Classic movies, novels, etc… some of my favorite mixes of black & white vs gray areas.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is still one of my favorite movies of all time, and Riders of the Purple Sage one of my fave books.

Happy 77th B-day, Adam West!

My first direct impact with gas prices. I took a taxi just up the street to do laundry (my load being too large to frog-march), and to prices have gone up considerably since my last use… before, the haul was $2.50 for the entire trip, but with the new pricing, it cost $3.70. The new cost is $2.50 just to get into the vehicle, and the first 1/6 mile. $.40 each additional 1/6 mile after that.

Time for me to price out a new wheel-cart. Heaven help anyone that actually has to go a considerable distance, like the airport or the like.

I was reflecting on times that were less prosperous for me. When at my worst, I had no place to live, and couldn’t afford to eat my fill, even at taco bell. If it wasn’t for food stamps for that month, I probably would’ve had to steal to survive.

That brought to mind all of these false charities, designed to take money meant to feed children and line the pockets of someone taking advantage of the disaster and the kinder natures of the human heart.

If I ever meet someone driving a Cadillac fueled by children he killed, I will use my imagination to its fullest extent to make that person suffer like no other. I have a very good imagination. Those thoughts fanned my more angry side for a bit, making me brew methods of pain on all levels against another person, in all four rooms of his house ( A physical, a mental, an emotional and a spiritual.) That upset me a bit, because I like to consider myself a kind and merciful person.

I have no kind or merciful thoughts for someone who hurts children for personal gain. I don’t feel forgiveness in my heart for them… I just want to hurt them in every way possible, and to make an example for anyone else who might think to do such stuff.

Not a terribly Christian attitude, and that saddens me on another level. My anger outweighs my sadness, however.

My teeth feel sharp against my tongue. The funny thing is that I feel pretty good in most other respects. more friendly-folk recently, a bit of an ease in workplace issues (just a bit).

Just found some folks speaking about me in a kind way during a random google update… how nice!

had a good time at qdot’s with uber and the gang, but I logged out a bit early, to prep for mondays’ hubbub.. prep the office for possible storm issues.
