hmm… brother got a GPS from a shady character he knows for $20. (I really think that it’s $20 he should’ve saved for other things, but the gizmo is neat.)

I’m going to set it up for him… put some rechargeable batteries in there, set up some maps. looks like a fun toy to take on trips… maybe I can get him into geocaching. I think he’d enjoy that.

These are the ones that are local to us... maybe we can plan a little expedition for some weekend.

The general rule of thumb is, “take an item, leave an item, write in the logbook.” Some caches are themed, so make sure to read the description before going on a hunt.

this is the place I want to hit. a local park.

Off to work for now. See you later, Dear journal.

The bookstore had a couple of really nice deals… I dashed away from there with a bag of ten, purchased for about $20. I picked up a nice collection of Edgar Allen Poe… an old one, so it’s extra neat and pre-creepified, for midnight readings of The Raven and Murders in the Rue Morgue … good to read aloud.

It was a nice enough day, though I bussed the distance rather than cycling (Mainly because I didn’t know what sort of massive book load I might be bringing home.)

Riding on the bus means… more doodles. Mousing over ’em may give you some insight as to where each drawing came from.

Someone has a peanut butter snickers fetish. On the way out today, I found my third wrapper of said candy on the ground. I wonder if it's my brother or one of my other neighbors?

Punkin! More Holiday spirit starting to show through... Same Punkin after 2 seconds of coloring. I may come back to him and add shading, or a Jack-o-lantern face, later... just for the heck of it.

When I think of October, horror and the old west... Boot Hill comes to mind. It was an old west paper and pencil RPG / wargame that I really enjoyed a lot as a kid... six-guns shooting… all sorts of old west archetypes there. I still prefer the term boot hill to graveyard. (However, I use terms like bone yard or necropolis more frequently these days)The Lady in front of me had a *huge* stack of freaky books about grays. Something like 30. I think she was going to start a freaky UFO library at her house...either that, or maybe she was buying them all up to burn 'em as a gesture of defiance.... I don't know. She was twitchy, and I didn't want to ask.

Also, the coolest T-shirt I’ve seen lately-

If you're really a goth, where were you when we sacked rome?

two years ago, I was just ending my last RPG gaming groups, an alphabet of television, nice supper at hops, great freaky/creepy movies and net fibs.

one year ago – welcome to Autumn, poll about what you carry with, a haiku war, I’m an otter on the medicine wheel, troll’s so snoopy that she inspires a sign on the door, and a post of the Chupacabra song, missing my dad, wondering about Halloween costumes.

This year, I’m taking Thursday, 10/31 off, through Sunday, 11/3. four day weekend.

The Fort Lauderdale international Film Festival … I’ll indulge in some of that, surely.

Oct 30 – Nov 10 Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival at Regal Las Olas… Just on the other side of that singing fountain. They also have some lovely photos of Las Olas. That’s the beach area I visit.

The sky, the sky beyond the door is blue.

Overextended myself on walkies last night… a little sore in my left flank. Had a long soak this morning… a little pre-emptive strike to fend off any potential yucko later.

Newt’s Sphynxing to my left.
He was looking mighty egyptian when it caught him.

Had tasty, soft, warm brownies last night. Yumma. Sliced nanner in oatmeal for breakfast.

Have Tremors on in the background… first TV on in a while. They’re going to show #2, and #3, afterward… I didn’t even know that there *was* a number three in the series. Plus, Fred Ward is one of my favorite dog-faced actors. Cast a Deadly Spell, Remo Williams. What’s not to like?

The first one is perfect for what it is… a classic, 50s style B-horror flick with an unseen monster, made in the 90s. #2 sort of blew it by showing the creatures so much… made them above grounders.

I’m so glad that I have a bathtub now…. a loooong hot soak while reading does wonders for the disposition.

I’ve got the urge to walk on the sidewalk inside the aforementioned Kinney tunnel, to take pictures. I wonder how heavy the exhaust is?

I can feel autumn’s arrival. My hair and nails grow more quickly now. The air is beginning thin; I sense that there may be a little crispness in the coming month or so. I can feel more creativity welling up… I think in the summer I was only at about 1/4 full. I’ve got to stop writing in the notebook, and get back to full-bore production on the laptop or desktop. I think I am going with my revised layout for the home page… I just have to make the .css it’s own file now (rather than embedded), and convert the pages over. Then I can change fonts, colors and shapes for everything all at once. Sticking to CSS1 though. Hopefully it won’t suck too badly on NS.

Behold! Sphincterine, a product promising to make you feel — and, presumably, taste — fresh “down there”. Naturally, you may purchase it on the web at mintyass.com. Everybody’s talking about it! I don’t know who showed the link to me first. It’s not a joke…it’s real.

Pucker, the brown starfish. *Snerk*

Tomorrow, either before, or more likely, after work… I must get three birthday presents. Brother… perhaps I’ll give him $$…that’s his preferred gift. Kev, the thing video game, and some blank dvds to burn… Newt? A big cardboard box, full of paperwads and milk rings. 🙂

100 words high school graduates should know. I confess that I didn’t know antebellum, evanescent, and quotidian… but I do now! Of the others, I’m very fond of the words bellicose, chicanery, churlish and ziggurat. 97% is pretty good, I guess. I really *should’ve* known antebellum, though.

Join the collective unconscious, and help to develop an alphabet! Observe… the letter S.

Synchronicities.. my Best Male friends outside of work all have names that begin with ‘D’. Dave, Dan, Derek. The three persons I love most are all Librans. (Sweetheart, Newt, Brother)
I live in apartment #3…this is the third numbered apartment I’ve lived in. The first was #1, the second was #2.

Pompano Beach lighthouse Click to see larger image, in a new window.Back from walkies, figured I’d show you one of the things I see when I go up the beach a bit.

The lighthouse is actually a much further away, but you can see it on the horizon from the pier that I walk up to…a really nifty sight at night or in the early morning, especially during a dark, thick rain…it’s been a long time since I’ve seen it lit up, maybe two or three years… I’m about due to visit it in the dark again sometime…Sometimes I think about taking my sweetheart there, and comparing it to the one closer to where she lives.

I’d recite a sonnet to her… (Pardon me for clipping Billy Shakespeare’s 41st)

Some glory in their birth, some in their skill,
Some in their wealth, some in their bodies’ force,
Some in their garments, though new-fangled ill,
Some in their hawks and hounds, some in their horse;
And every humour hath his adjunct pleasure,
Wherein it finds a joy above the rest:
But these particulars are not my measure;
All these I better in one general best.
Thy love is better than high birth to me,
Richer than wealth, prouder than garments’ cost,
Of more delight than hawks or horses be;
And having thee, of all men’s pride I boast:
Wretched in this alone, that thou mayst take
All this away and me most wretched make.

All, because I do love her so. A walk along the beach with her, holding hands, watching the sunrise. She’s in my heart and with me wherever I decide to wander…thoughts of her heart beating next to mine, as well as inside it, her lips pressing against my own, our souls together, happy, and joined as one.

I’m back….bought a disposable camera, to take up my photo-slack until I buy a digicam. Took some pictures of con-folks, and unusal stuff, but I still have about 20 pics left untaken. More about the con when I develop and scan the pics.

The con folks were reasonable, many of the guests didn’t arrive due to air travel troubles. (Bruce campbell did, though)

Picked up a few prezzies for folks, trinkets of happiness. I think my sweetie’ll really like hers. 🙂 (on the way home, we swung by the art supply store, and Toys R Us)

hmm.. my baby’s gone out… I wonder where she’s popped off to? I hope she comes home soon… I’ve missed her lots and lots today…I picked up some wine and cheese for our next date night… Hopefully tonight, if all works out ok.

Off to vulkon to see Bruce Campbell, get his autograph and book, and to take pictures of con-folk.

see you kidlets when I get back! If anyone wants to see me, I’ll be there, in red white and blue. (red & white pirates of the carribean Tie-dye shirt and navy slacks, with birks, long hair down. if you don’t see me, just wander around the event calling my name (scottobear) over a bullhorn, or just at the top of your lungs. I’ll find you. if I like you, I’ll even give you a hug, or if you’re not a hugging kind, I’ll buy you a soda or cookie or something.

seeya later, gators. full report when I return.

Ah, the ‘mat. How delightful. ramble with know real beginning middle or end. I’m just sayin’.

Stuff about laundry Well, my sweetheart hit the sack early, and I had laundry to do. so… I subjected my duds to a sudsy spin downtown.

There, I met a doppelganger, but a kindly one… he was sam shepherd to my grizzly adams. a fellow man-mountain intent on having an outfit clean enough to go to work in tomorrow. We talked for a little while, finding a common bond in that we were the only ones there that were male, over 20, but under 100 years old, and spoke English instead of a loud, shrill Creole or drunken Spanish singing. A rambunctious, cross-cultural, multi-aged cacophony, to be sure.

A little back story, first. This is the same laundry where this happened, nearly a year ago. since then, I’ve been primarily going to the other one, by the chit-chat lounge, because that’s right next to the bakery… and fresh baked goods makes people-watching go by so much more pleasantly. Sadly, since I did my laundry tonight, the bakery was closed, so I opted for the ‘mat of Evil. It wasn’t so bad, but it was rather loud in there… I remember now why I usually do my duds in the morning, on the weekend… far more machines avvailable, and the crowd is still half asleep, rambling through some kind of thorzine shuffle, instead of beer-fueled migrant worker-men and young mothers with rowdy,runner-kids, squealing…. but it makes for an interesting study in people and society.

Tonight I saw –
4 kids playing a weird verion of calvinball involving an uno deck, matchbox cars and a lot of high speed running and screaming, saying somthing about not me! not me!

More paper bags coverin’ beer cans than I have ever seen before. Maybe there’s a public ordinance about boozing it up in the ‘mat? I felt sort of out of place drinking my tasty, tall arizona orangeade (obtained at the beer dispensing gas station across the street)

A cute little girl who was the epitome of “how to be good” sitting on the bench, coloring nicely… strange to see her there, across from all the rowdy grownups, but the parents were close, keeping an eye, fortunately.

I had a fascinating conversation with this big guy (name of Mike, by the way), and we both agreed that it was louder inside than most concerts…chatted about books, got a few reccomendations that I’ll be looking into, and maybe he’ll look into house of leaves and enjoy it.

Head count? about 15 assorted kids, 6 drunk men, myself, mike, 12 women. a mob. I swear.. it sounded like 100…I’m glad that just stepping to the back parking lot quieted it considerably.

I dreamed of the Amazon…

The AmazonI dreamed last night of going on photo safari with my sweetheart along assorted ancient trails and some canoeing. (is it still a safari, if you’re in south America, and not Africa? an expedition and a vacation away from the city, regardless.) More exploratory than adventurous, we seemed to hike on an on, smiling and enjoying the getaway of it all. I distinctly remember wearing my camping gear..hiking boots instead of my usual birks, a backpack and ball-cap. (I don’t recall the rest of the outfit, but it was comfortable.) She was wearing dark greens and had her hair up, in comfy mode, yet still amazingly beautiful.

So much lush green, a footpath… I think we were going to see some ruins too, but I don’t think we made it there, too busy watching all the animals and nature…it’s funny, but I distinctly remember seeing guinea pigs in the jungle. That can’t be right. little *meep meep* guys hanging out with crocodiles and strange native tribesmen… somehow it doesn’t jibe. I wonder what small furry critter is at the bottom of the mammal food chain there? Rats? Other seeming non-sequiturs were turtles and piranha in the river living together… maybe that’s true, or perhaps my dream-mind assumed they wouldn’t like his tough shell. either way, on the canoe trip a lovely green box turtle was swimming alongside us.

Ah! to work, to work.

Got up nice and early this morning, and got out to start my 5 mile walk again. A beautiful morning, on a track populated by pretty girls on rollerblades. Sure, I can get back into the groove! 2 hours later, I was delighted to take a shower, and get all the walkie sweat off. the heat continued to build, during the lap, and I imagine the cleansing sweat was a good thing.

now, clean, fresh, and ready for my day, I’m at work, drinking atasty orange juice chug, and will fill out the day with only water from then on, fluids-wise. Lunch… well, we’ll see where they go for it… I imagine a veggie something with no bread will work. I’m going to try to kill the carbs… the oj was my sugar for the day. 🙂

oh, by the way!

Last night at the Salty dog… it was interesting, if rather uneventful. Did something unusual, I drank a large quantity of beer. About 9. Had a conversation with a couple of folks who appeared intelligent, until they demanded to talk politics. feh. I opt out of that one, and play some pool with the only other neutral party in that debate, a guy named Mike. Nice fellow, a better pool player than I am. Apparently he has a band that plays at the pier on Tuesday nights (right across the street) so, I may go and see what the band is about… he says mostly cover stuff, but a couple of original bits.

Got a few lovely invites over the past week. Cathi & Dave want me, little Bro, and Robb to come over for the 5th annual gourd-slaughter and knifing in a few weeks. I never seem to make it to that, for some reason… hopefully, with 2 buddies reminding me about it, it’ll be doable this time around.

I missed seeing Cider out and about online this weekend. 🙁 I hope she’ll poke a nose in soon.

Got the night wrapped up

Going to the Salty Dog pub up the street and partake in a beer or two, with some nachos. Time with Ray and Robbo was nice… looks like Robb’s moving to Seattle sometime before thanksgiving, and Ray’s getting on well with Rose, his GF.

Saw get carter, and it was pretty ok, if rather choppy and conveluted. Saw Cowboy blues with Ray, and it was quite good! excellent soundtrack.

Nobody wants to go out late tonight, Robb needs to work on his proj, and Ray’s spending time with the girlie. Suzy’s sleeping, getting ready to drive the cab at 6am. Who knows… maybe I can gab with folks at the bar. It’s saturday night.
