Taking a shard of time to remember, honor and thank all the good people who came before. I don’t mean honoring war, but those that died in those conflicts and wars. I’m sort of extending the idea to all those that helped make the world a better place, or fought in the war of life, too. I’m very thankful that I’m of a generation that didn’t have to fight a war for freedom, owed largely in part by the generation immediately before…for that I’m thankful.
Regarding a moment of remembrance – http://www.remember.gov/
Take a Moment to Remember those Americans who gave their lives in service to their country
This Memorial Day, please pause with Americans at home and abroad to honor the men and women who died so that we might enjoy the gift of freedom. Let us never forget their sacrifice.
At 3:00 p.m., simply stop what you are doing and think for one minute about those who died for your freedom. If you are driving, turn on your vehicle’s headlights.
As you participate in the National Moment of Remembrance, you are helping reclaim Memorial Day for the noble purpose for which it was establishedto honor those who died in service to our Nation. Join with the White House Commission on the National Moment of Remembrance in honoring those who have died and their families. It is a minute of reflection that everyone can spare.

obstreperous ub-STREP-ur-us; ob-, adjective:
1. Noisily and stubbornly defiant; unruly.
2. Noisy, clamorous, or boisterous.
(My Sweetie was obstreperous as a child… closer to definition number 2. )
Obstreperous derives from Latin obstrepere, “to make a noise, to clamor at or against; hence, to disturb, to interrupt by clamor,” from ob-, “toward, against” + strepere, “to make a loud noise.”
I see you. Sitting there… Staring.
Hi!
5/27/2001 1:30 PM
Just got on the bus, my first attempt at comfortable writing on the laptop from a moving vehicle. Not too bad with the spell checker turned on, so I don’t trip over silly words as I type stream of thought. Surprisingly few people on the bus for midday, I must’ve just missed the churchgoing crowd, or they’re headed in north as I travel south. I’m happy to have a seat to myself; otherwise I’d probably not be terribly comfortable typing this now. There are no particularly unusual folks riding so far, one possibly drunk, very tired or disabled man at the front bobbing his head to stay awake is about the extent of it. This will be a great test of my laptop’s battery, I think. I’ve missed seeing my sweetheart today…I hope I catch her tonight before bed. Derek actually took the initiative today, and called me up at about noon to see if I wanted to get together, take a little walk in the park and gab. I’m for that… plus, I can take him out to lunch and we can go see Shrek together, too. He’s tapped out, but we’re hitting a matinee so it won’t be too dear. (Plus, if we go to big pink, it’s industry day, so we can get half off everything. J) Well, I’m going to play some SIMs. I’ll clock out when I shut down.

Just sitting at the library, waiting for my little brother to meet me, plans for a nice day of lunch and a movie are in the works. Machine power had dropped to 63% while on the bus… not too bad, considering, but I’ve found a place to plug in for now, and recharge. I wonder if it’s a good idea to be seen in this part of town with a laptop… I suppose it’s okay, I am in a library. I should’ve brought a piece of net cable… the local hub has a few slots free, so I could surf and post from here if I had a mind to. I suppose if I was feeling industrious, I could copy to floppy, hop to one of the free net machines, copy and upload, but I’m far too lazy for that. Besides, all of the library’s boxes are in use… by the time I got to one I’d have to go little brother hunting. I think I’ll swing by the music section, and rip some CD tracks while I’m here. Maybe I’ll get lucky and there’ll be something amazing that leaps at me. Batteries back to 91%, and I’m going into hibernation mode so I can look for my sibling. Ciao, babes!
Going out with Little brother this afternoon to see Shrek. (No Pearl Harbor for me!)
Hope it’s good! 🙂 See you kids this evening.
Working on some code, and tripped over this –
onMouseWheel Event Yay!
Sure, it’s probably not a standard, but boy, is this cool. IE6 has an event handler for the scroll wheel. Finally we can make interfaces where a layer scrolls with the wheel!

game design in flash 5. maybe I’ll goof with this over the weekend? Why does Flash use radians instead of degrees for trig functions? Anyone? You can convert, but why?
ok, enough dork stuff. time to order supper. I’m getting Japanese!
Let’s freshen up here.

folks who thought
New Babies! Lots of ’em!

polls! dang, I love those.
Constructive criticism
Cute Icons
and overall, some wonderful friends on top of just the folks who ‘link to and read my entries’. Overall, I’d certainly say the good beats out the bad by a major point.
Pretend romances between pretend people
people pretending to have terminal diseases
Real people lying about themselves to make their journal more interesting, or themselves more like the ‘good guy’
Creation of identities for the sole purpose of harassing others. (especially those with anon posting turned off)
Hacked Journals, and secrets told.
Innocent people accused of doing the above, and when the truth came out, no apologies or retractions were spread like the original lies.
Ridiculous cries for attention, in the form of name calling, cursing, and deliberate baiting of poor folks who don’t know any better than to not feed the trolls.
bragging about infidelity, as if it were a badge of pride, not shame
Hate Speech against people’s religion, race, sexual orientation, desire or not to breed, and occupation
Nude photos of minors (Child pornography?) usually posted by what I assume are the children in question. (This one’s a tricky one… how young is too young? I’m talking about a 16 year old here, at least according to her lj bio.)
They all have a basic right to do and say what they like in the confines of their journal, just as much as I have the right to post what I do in mine… I have a good knack for tripping over all kinds of information here, and when I see it, I make a note not to go there again if I don’t like it. Anything else would boil down into censorship, I imagine.
To anyone who was taken in by the latest hoax… don’t feel like a sucker for caring. Prayers, support and good thoughts aren’t wasted, they can give hope to folks who you may not know, and you don’t know has even seen them. A hoax certainly beats a nice person dying, doesn’t it?
Wow… pearl harbor got really peed on by the critics. Overall, according to rottentomatoes.com…
Pearl Harbor tries to be the Titanic of war movies, but it’s just a tedious romance filled with laughably bad dialogue. The 40 minute action sequence is spectacular though.
Maybe I’ll just skip that one. Looks like Shrek is the way to go. 🙂
