6702 June 6.

60 years ago today – D-Day / Normandy I know that I appreciate the sacrifices made by the soldiers who fought for us back on that day in ’44. It must be hard for me to truly realize what it must’ve been like at that time, but I’ve had an active interest in that part of WWII history since I was old enough to read Sgt. Rock comics and watch countless documentaries with my dad and brother on Sunday afternoons. It’s astounding to me that nearly a third of the USA’s population doesn’t really know any of the details about D-Day. (Simple stuff, like the fact that Germany was the enemy, for Pete’s sake.)

Bro came by briefly, and I charged up his MP3 player with 128 meg of Bowie, Rancid, and Shorty Petterstein.

Extending my mental powers out over LJ….Watch, as I do a sniff on you, reading my journal….

You are a sensitive person who is in tune with events around you. When you were younger, you were different from other people that you knew. You have always been a little on the outside of things. You are also a caring and honest person, perhaps too much so, but you have difficulty in letting people get to know the real you. When you finally do let someone inside, you keep him or her close to you for a long time. In fact, there is someone that you are close to that you are concerned about right now. You worry too much though and can best help this person by continuing to be a positive influence in their life.

Does that sound like you? Pretty close?

OK, how about if I add the rest:

Your intuition is strong and you feel that you may have always had a bit of a sensitivity or a psychic ability. You have occasionally dreamed of things before they happened or at least had a strong sense of ‘deja vu’ under certain circumstances.

If I add the fact that you have a scar on one knee, someone would probably start freaking out, and screaming for me to get out of their head. So I won’t.

6701 Backski

Well, the trip was mostly a bust. Right as I was heading out the door, Big Kahuna called, and had me swing into the HQ to put the new logo on the powerpoint presentation she’s giving in Rhode Island on Monday (and on RC’s Michigan demos for next week, too.) After a quick little cleanup of th presentations (about 20 min for the thing, top to bottom) I headed off to the bus station. I wanted to go check out the Con, so I hopped the 55 to the 22, and took that to the numero dos. I rode and rode and rode the 2, and didn’t see my stop… and when I got to Dade County, I decided enough was enough and hopped the 18 to the 22 to the central home again.

I didn’t take many pictures, or even mess with the palm much, due to the inadvisability of showing off too much valuable hardware in some of the regions I was in. A lot of potentially predator-types out and about and there was no reason to tempt ’em any more than need be. I didn’t really talk with anyone on my road trip, just sort of sat back and observed. One young kid had really shaky hands…he was a white kid, and was wearing a do-rag decorated with YO! MTV raps logos all over it. It was in good condition, considering the show has been off the air for about a decade.

As I mentioned before, I never made it to the convention, but I don’t feel too bad about that. I’m more peeved that I burned 4 and a half hours on the road and didn’t do *anything*, but those are the dice I roll when I don’t make proper preparations. Put in a lot of walking and people watching… and was very fortunate in that there was enough cloud-cover that things remained cool, but was never soaked-out by the threatening rain.

This is just brilliant.

Radio.Blog is a system that turns mp3s into Flash files and stacks them up in an internet radio player that you can paste into your website. Free program. Windows-only and PHP-hosting-only, right now, according to the FAQ. – Via diepunyhumansdph

Sharp! Sadly, due to security constraints, you can’t put php on your lj styles, but it’ll look lovely on a homepage.

6700 Laundry done, moribund

I have no idea where my sweatpants are. I wonder if they were stolen from a load the last time I did laundry? Or the time before last?

They’re not anywhere my clothes should be, unless they fell down behind the hamper… nope, not there, either. Maybe in the linens between the towels. I’m too lazy to get up and look again. If they are, I’ll find ’em a few showers from now.

Speaking of showers, my heavy rains never came.

I’ve *already* seen multiple copies of Harry Potter 3 listed as available on assorted download sites. I wonder how many are actually the bootleg version, and how many are another movie renamed for download?

I referred to someone as looking nicely moribund today, just to see if they’d take it as a compliment. They did. I think that it’s a good thing that they were sitting down, otherwise, they might’ve thought I was referring to their backside (buns).

Consider this while you ponder the state of obesity here in the U.S.: 300,000 people will die of starvation in Sudan’s Darfur region even if emergency aid is delivered immediately.

If no aid is forthcoming, triple that number.

I look like Tim Robbins / Woody Allen & Rutger Hauer? Link is good for 48 hours

I can sort of see Tim Robbins. I would *like * to see Rutger, but don’t really… but that’s offset by the fact that I’m delighted that I don’t see Woody Allen, either.

Let’s try again.

same Pic, returned – Tim Robbins again, but this time with Kevin Costner and Dennis Bergkamp.

with my super-scotto pic, I get Dennis Bergkamp, Val Kilmer and Anthony Hopkins.

Finally, with classic scotto-icon, I get Richard Dreyfuss, Gabriel Batistuta and David Beckham.

I think the software still needs a little work.

Newt looks like Clint Eastwood, Scott Baio and Dennis Bergkamp, too, so it would seem.

How does it work?

I see a couple of distinct groups. “Clever-bunnies”, artist/musician/photographers, Families, Sillies, Michiganners, Marylanders, Canada-types

Interesting how much overlap there is. My cloud is noticeably smaller than most of the others I’ve seen…. not a lot of interconnectedness.

Made a search form via google for entries. It’s only as good as google’s indexing my public entries… but that’s decent enough. I’ve added it to my bio page… I wonder if that’ll increase my already heavy google indexing?

Off to get ready for my day’s expedition. See you later, dear journal.

6699 – Ah, Thor heard my plea…

… Strong thunderstorms continue from Palm Beach County through
Broward County… and into far North central Miami-Dade County…

At 233 PM… the strongest thunderstorm was located 5 miles west of
State Road 27 on the Broward and Miami-Dade County line. Movement of
the storm was nearly stationary. Hail and gusty winds to 40 mph are
likely with this storm. Other storms will continue to affect much of
western Broward County into central Palm Beach County. Frequent
cloud to ground lightning and locally heavy rainfall will accompany
these storms this afternoon.

Residents near the path of this storm should remain alert for
additional statements and possible warnings.

Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio and other local media for further
details or updates.

6697 Friday…

Ok… no more entries about how flippin’ hot it is outside for a while, dear journal. That’d get pretty redundant.

I just heard about this on my expedition with Danny to the comic shop. Spooky Empire – There’s a SciFi convention this weekend… I’ll probably go, check out the dealer room, and run off again. The hotel they is rather dumpy, even for a convention (Unless it’s been upgraded in the last 2 years or so.), about 10 miles from my place. I’ll have to decide if it’s worth putting off doing laundry and condo-questing. Probably not, but maybe I’ll want a break to sniff out some bootlegs and trinkets of happiness for me and mine.

I didn’t manage to actually call GP, but I did email him, and he wrote back already.

Had to walk ADP through doing a System restore on her system, though I suspect her OS was fine. MSN sent her a message that the service was unavailable, and to try back later. Bleh. Easy enough – Run>-msconfig. There’s probably some dance-dance revolution windows path, but I prefer quick and easy.

Krystal burger joints have free wireless access? That’s weird. More Free places.

wifimaps is still my fave.. a little slow loading, it’s visually lovely, and has radii marked.

Here’s my Neck of the woods in WiGLE, NodeDB and WiFiMaps

No drivers have picked up my apartment’s open net yet.

Bro got his xbox and some games. He has $12 to find an apartment with, but he can afford a flippin’ toy.

Big Kahuna, RC and CC are all loaded with supplies, and I’m ready to kick ’em out of the nest to Michigan and Rhode Island next week.

Very Stylized Mad Mod episode of Teen Titans last night. (pic) Funny seeing some similarities between Malcolm MacDowell’s role in that, and Clockwork Orange. It wasn’t a standard episode. Lot’s of 60’s style images and such, and a Scooby-doo chase. (See Original Bad Guy stats) I never thought he’d make a comeback. Who’s next, Prez? Yango, the Super-Ape? (How many cities populated by intelligent apes are there in Africa, anyway?)

Only vaguely related. The Term “Whiz Wagon” cracks me up.

6696 quickie

Got a surprise visit from Dan yesterday.. the last one before he launches for his vacation. We got to have a nice drive and chat.. did stop-offs at the local tiki-hut, and made up a story about the people across from us… Fergie and her MI6 bodyguards… and the Big Louie’s Waitress the looked like a blend of KC, Kiersten Dunst, and a Cro-mag.

We had a pretty good day, all in all.

It was deathly hot once again outside… and pressure’s on at the office… Big Kahuna and CC are going north next week, and I have to prepare them traveling packets. I feel like Q, getting them ready, demonstrating how to use a laptop and powerpoint, putting a folder together with local internet access numbers, emergency CDs of information, and statistical reports for them to reference. Not really hard work, but fun, anyway.

I forgot to call GP yesterday… I also have to fire off my rent check today. Both of those will happen by end of day.

VS & I were targeted by someone pulling the speaker-scam at lunch. (We were walking past the bank on the way back from lunch.) I first heard about this stuff about a month ago. Man, only a sap would buy something from a van. Site Meter

Reminded by Danny – 2004 Transit of Venus (2004 Observer’s Handbook) (Tuesday, June 8, 2004 ) Transits of Venus across the disk of the Sun are among the rarest of planetary alignments. Indeed, only six such events have occurred since the invention of the telescope (1631, 1639, 1761, 1769, 1874 and 1882). The next two transits of Venus will occur on 2004 June 08 and 2012 June 06.

I’ve got to remember to call GP this afternoon.
