8314 – Friday 5

1. When is the last time you were broke?

TG/Christmastime 2004. A lot of financial burdens added up and I really had trouble getting out from under ’em. Fortunately, it was resolved before I got too tapped out. (Could still take care of rent, utils, etc.)

2. What makes you lose focus?

Micromanagement, Nagging, any Harpy-like activity in my environment. Boredom. something more interesting or important.

3. How tall are you?

6’5″/6’6″ depending on slouch-factor.

4. Are you brave or cowardly?

Yes, depending on what I’m made to stand up against. I pick my battles, but am willing to gnaw through an arm to get away from some things, or gnaw through someone else’s jugular to get to others.

5. What’s in your pocket?

Standard collection – Flash drive, keys, billfold, ID, pda, cell phone, bus pass, business cards, green eraser shaped like the goodyear blimp, newton whiskerGeotarget

8313 – Friday. Finally.

Wow, do I hate to iron, especially first thing in the morning. Makes me a big ol’ grumpy scottosaurus. I think I’m going to ask Fatima how much she’d charge to do a few shirts and pants. I’m just not so great at taking care of those.

Swung by a pawnshop on the way home, just to eyeball what people were selling… picked up 3 dvds for $15. Buckaroo Bonsai (Special Edition), A Monty Python TV series Dvd (contains the Deja vu, silly walks and spanish inqusition episodes), and True Romance.

Crashed right out when I got home. Played a bit with the Newtster, ate a sammich, fell asleep. Not bad, but I’d have liked to do more. Read, play SL, or the like.

Seriously considering getting a short haircut for summer. I need to look up the “donate hair to kids” places.

LJ-map thingum

8311 – four-twenty, duuuuude!

Met with the momster after work yesterday, and reviewed some options regarding the grandmomster. Her brother has power of attorney, but it looks like he’s cleaning her out while grandmuh-mah slowly fades from reality on double doses of sedatives and Alzheimer’s’s. minimal highlights for future ref: mom 25%, di 25%, doug 50%, after sig’s college is paid. Speaking of little sig, bigger sig’s bought a building in Colorado and will be doing some more real estate shortly. There are a lot of sibling infighting on mom’s side of the family. Dad’s side just dies early from accidents.

Getting hotter out.. and the dragonflies (and damselflies) are *everywhere*. I remember when I was very young, I thought that they were poisonous and that they stung like scorpions. A few varieties out there, but mostly the brown ones with the striped wings, and the blue-bottle-glass looking damsels.

insomnia makes a few good points about lj’s new ad-level membership.

that and the following promise made in ’04 —

Stay advertisement free

It may be because it’s one of our biggest pet peeves, or it may be because they don’t
garner a lot of money, but nonetheless, we promise to never offer advertising space in our
service or on our pages.

A bunch of great sesame street clips, including Robert DeNiro imagines he’s Elmo! Also vaguely disturbing – Grover’s Health Minute – Teeth

Had a nice time playing “greedy greedy”, a dice game with the gang in SL. Sort of a hybrid of yahtzee and cosmic wimpout.

Because people have a need to glue things to other things – How to glue two different things together.

sketch-it is a website that lets you submit a subject, pay $1 and have it sketched for you by one of about 13 sketch artists. They’ve been doing it since January and have sketched a variety of subjects. Have an idea, but can’t draw it? They probably can. For a dollar, you can’t go wrong. Definitely take a look at the archives to see everything they’ve already sketched. There’s some good stuff in there.

Moment of Lyric – mp3 – (From his LJ)

8307 – 2z-D.

The visual part of my brain wonders why a yellow sun in a blue sky doesn’t have green around it. The Logical side understands a bit about the atmosphere and diffuson, bu tthe visual side isn’t buying it.

Hot, fresh b’nanner pancakes is a great way to start the day. I need to get some blueberries for next time.

A Florida mall dispute ended Saturday night with the arrest of the Easter Bunny on battery charges.

Some pictures from yesterday bright and early –

footstalker
Newton Stalking my left foot.

Sleepy Newt piccies

8305 – Which brings us back to d’oh!

New Dr. Who was ok.. I liked the semi-zombie goodness despite the weak ending, but I look more forward to next week’s episode… Werewolves and Queen Victoria!

Secret Wars Re-Enactment Society – Well, it makes as much sense as those Civil War guys.

Aw, phooey… Monday again, eh? Weekend evaporated like fog on a hot day. Had lunch with the Mom and her gang at Sweet Tomatoes, and came home to an overlong nap… Sunday was completely wiped off the map as a result. Danny tried to call me from the Atlanta arport, but both phones he was using were wrecked, microphone-wise. Good to know he made it in ok, however.

I’m not a big fan of recent SNL, but the video bits, and smigel’s tv funhouse animation segments still can shock and awe a bit. Last weekend’s “Disney Vault” bit was pretty awesomely horrid.

8302 – Would a zombie icon be inappropriate for Easter?

Actually, I take a little micro-umbrage at that, because the stories have him as resurrected, not just reanimated.

Have some more Easter Lore.

I’m not a terribly religious man, but I do enjoy the sentiment of the Franciscans.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Some of those can be a little difficult at times.

As an agnostic, I’m not looking for eternal life, but I do want to be a part of making the world better for everyone. Pardoning is something I especially still need to work on. The lure of personal justice and worse, vengeance is quite strong.

Very handy freeware list for windows. I’m especially fond of Windows powertoys allowing me ot put cleartype on my big old CRTs

I forgot to mention the shopping find of the day yesterday –

baldheadedsauce

They also make BBq sauce, and it’s quite excellent, not ot mention the silly picture on the front. Apparently they’re a fairly local Florida company.

Hm. I’d really like to see what the actual parameters are for lj top 40.

My LJ is now at #8, but it bounces all over the place each update. It doesn’t seem to differentiate between individuals (like me), communities (like craftgrrl), or lj-specific journals (like news)

8301 – Good… Saturday?

Dreamt that I was in Disney world chasing a shape-shifting Newton. Hippo, Crocodile, Puma, then Newt, depending on the tone of voice I was using to call to him, and what part of the magic kingdom we were in… mostly Haunted Mansion / Tiki Birds region. He seemed to stick with changing into other animals, but was always recognizable by me, somehow. I finally caught him at Pirates of the Caribbean, on the island with the impaled skeleton. (where the seagull is sitting).

Went with Danny out to Masamune, my first time there. The food was superb. I’d have to say the spicy tofu appetizer was the best I’ve ever had. I’ll be going back pretty frequently, I suspect. I also had a cucumber roll, salad and tempura veggies. It was nice to have about 5 hours with Danny for the first time in an age.. he picked me up at work, did some shopping (I got a new UPS battery at the Depot, and he got a DVD at Barnes & Noble -The Quest for Fire.

Outside was a weird security tower/siege machine looking gizmo.

seigemachine2

seigemachine1

It seats one inside, has a light flasher on top, wind gauge, speakers on all sides, and can be elevated to about four stories or so. it seats one, and has a nice air conditioning unit on top, a swell as very dark-tinted windows. I wonder what purpose it serves in the parking lot? Some sort event there later?

We got to catch up.. I’m glad things are going quite a bit better for him and Jan, for the most part.

Freaky, sinister seeming Easter tradition in Spain – processions in classic pre-inquisition Christian garb.

Too bad we don’t do this here, but I suppose some folks would confuse ’em for Klansmen.

8299 – It’s good Friday!

Spent some time with Tina and her crew over at Murphy’s. She was showing off her new car, and is probably going to quit Murph’s and just stay with her day gig, now that the car’s bought.

Getting together with Danny after work… still don’t know what we’re doing. I’m fairly surprised he’s not going to some sort of services.

Here are some friends who invite you into their [web] homes to enjoy records with them. Let’s go for a visit! These recordings are typically old rarities that have not been reissued on CD format.
