Botanical beasts

Doodle day 6, Botanical Beasts I have long loved muck monsters and plant creatures, but never could get the knack of drawing ol’ Carrot face or Swampy… Or Groot.

I went back to my roots of drawing and kept it simple, and just did a little mucky grass critter that would probably be happy to shamble around the back yard and nibble on anything you could toss in the compost bin.

I went back to my Ed Emberly training for the face and general good cheer. #drawlloween2023day6 #swamp #inktober #botanicalbeasts #roanokeva #doodle #mabgravesdrawlloweenclub #mdwc23 #mdwcd6

Haunted

Doodle day 5, Haunted. I did a graveyard yesterday, and my idea for a spooky mansion wasn’t coming together, so a haunted woods wins the day! Like me, this little phantom hasn’t seen any deer at night lately, and is wondering where they went, now that Autumn has come to the mountains. #drawlloween2023day5 #haunted #woods #inktober #ghost #roanokeva #doodle #mabgravesdrawlloweenclub #mdwc23 #mdwcd5

Werecat

Pearl is pretty much a werecat. Don’t let the placid demeanor fool you, within her chest beats the heart of a predator.

Mind your lunar shapeshifters… Next full moon is Oct 28

Doodle day 2

Mrs and me watching 80s Disney movies, just relaxing and enjoying each other’s company.

Not shown here, malted milk balls and snuggles. Last night we watched an old episode of the wonderful world of Disney – legend of sleepy hollow and wind in the willows, and then the 1987 classic “Student Exchange”.

33 years ago today, give or take

Me, 1990, at a “fart party” at Kevin’s wth Tomi {in 2nd photo}, maybe John, Maybe Karen? Since we were downstairs, I am guessing there were too many of us to hang out in Kev’s room. Not sure what the movie of the evening was. Before my hair grew down to my waist (and then cut to about that length or shorter now), and beard appeared later, when the hair grew long. Back when I wore a watch because I didn’t have a phone with a clock in it. I still like plaid shirts, but mostly wear nerdy tshirts now. Also almost exclusively jeans now, back then from before I was in college, and did not own dungarees for probably another 15 years. I was on my own and got most of my clothes at army-navy surplus shops. I wore almost exclusively high tops, or combat boots for the same reason.

Even during the post college years, I was pretty perpetually broke, working at ether the library, a bookstore, the movie theater or as a bouncer / dormant before I got some computer gigs working on direct mail (postal advertising), and then doing GPS code to at first add street info to satellite maps, and later to help find missing kids, early Amber Alert / CodeRed type stuff. After keyhole got bought out by Google maps, it was made much easier.

I have no idea why I had the Frankenstein haircut at that time, forget how I got haircuts back then. I think it might’ve been Laura? I had my own apartment then, a studio off of the main house in Boca, I think. I had been briefly unhoused, but I rectified that pretty quickly. Maybe it was Shelaigh who cut my hair? It doesn’t matter to anyone but me anyhow. #33yearsago #flashbackfriday #goodolddays #badolddays #doesanyoneunder50callthemdungarees #pizzahut #fartparty #unflatteringphotos

Does whatever a spider can

Printed a black widow in suspension as a Halloween treat. A nifty trick using bridging strands (originally a floating hand illusion, might see how that goes in multi colors. ) I forget to put a red hourglass on the abdomen, but I think she turned out sufficiently creepy for the season. I could see this suspension method being a neat visual alternative to some sculpts. The strands are delicate but are affixed throughout the hexagon, might be a fun way to do something like a Magritte bowler hat and apple in 3d, sort of hanging in space. Maybe a floating candelabra, like the hallway in the haunted mansion? An umbrella floating in a rainstorm? #blackwidow #bambux1carbon #bridging #halloweendecor

Witch hat stich marker fail

Test print on a stich marker @ 250% size. More of a key chain here. Output still a little too heavy on the burrs to be allowed to hang next to yarn, I think my results would be better with laser cut acrylic than extruded PLA. I do like the color mix, though. #3dprinting #phrygianhat #conicalhat #witcheshat #x1bambucarbon #stichmarker #plaplastic https://www.instagram.com/p/Cxv0DGYOcbJ/?igshid=NmQ4MjZlMjE5YQ==

A little ghost

Harold Bog-Nar in his grey corpse skin with a friendly black cat and a bright yellow ghost costume with extra starch. I was impressed, it took less than 45 minutes to print it out, and the ghost turned out pretty good! I may try printing it out in bone while, transparent/clear or glow in the dark. #bognar #harold #sistobrak #glyos #glyoscompatible #battletribes #timelapse #bambux1carbon #toymaking #modulartoys #3dprinting
