8291 – And… it’s a Friday.

Devo – Live on “Fridays” Girl U Want & Gates of Steel

Hey, so it’s Friday! It’s been a long week, even with Tuesday off. I’m looking forward to getting some rest this weekend.

Made myself a new icon, testing lj’s auto resize images. looks ok. I’ll wear it for a bit.

Lost was the best one in a while last Wednesday. Some decent acting, and set pieces.

Designed a mega-trampoline for 2nd Life, and it seemed to go over well with the 3 Sirens crowd. Launch and sound works well, but you still land with a heck of a thump. version 2.5 will be a bit more gentle. Timmy Turtle’s pursuit mode is more realistic, too. (if you outrun him, and another person is closer, he’ll home in on them.)

It’s been a little while since I last heard from my brother. I’m hoping that is a good sign. He’s still unaware of my street address, though he could get it with only a modicum of detective work. He’s very clever, despite his best efforts to harm his own faculties. No news frequently translates into good news.

dreams of being pulled like taffy and being planted as a new species of tree. no dryads, will ‘o wisps or wood nymphs came to soothe me. there were peacocks, but fortunately they were mute.

8289 – Thursday.

Loki is pretty nifty. Surprisingly, it doesn’t use win2k, only XP sp 1 and greater, but there is a beta for both MSIE and Mozilla, and seems especially useful for laptop or mobile computer users. Lots of nifty local items to check out. It tries to workout where you are and then gives you various tools for doing stuff with that knowledge, including inserting geoTags to any form that takes an input. Unfortunately, Shopping links to already dead cairo.

Busy day at work today – fund raiser and setup for the golf tourney will stretch our staff quite a bit. Going to be a skeleton crew. Got an abduction call out of Collier County last night.

Things seen to and from work yesterday –

busstoppredawn
Waiting for the sun to come up at the bus stop en route to work.
Time change returned the walk to in the dark.

worktree
The tree on the road island outside my office.
Green again, but still not as lush as it once was.

regrowth
Regrowth on the tree right outside my office window. That was a pleasant sight during lunch.
I’m too jaded.. I think it looks a bit like a triffid.

The Zombie Horde Counterstrike mod is a lot of fun. Zombies with no ranged attacks that can only be hurt with a head shot on one side, soldiers that can’t camp in zombie-free zones in the other. much fun.

A gold plated six story house in the shape of a pyramid.

Built by Mr. and Mrs. Onan, which made me laugh all the more. (We used to have a bird named Onan, because he was known for spilling his seed upon the ground.)

In my head during shower and shave this morning –

How do?xRABBIT-OF-SEVILLE
Welcome to my shop, let me cut your mop, let me shave your crop
Daintily, daintily
Hey you!
Don’t look so perplexed, why must you be vexed, can’t you see you’re next
Yes you’re next, you’re so next
How about a nice close shave
Teach your whiskers to behave
Lots of lather lots of soap
Please hold still don’t be a dope
Now we’re ready for the scraping
There’s no use to try escaping
Oh, wait until I get that rabbit
Yell & scream & rant & rave
It’s no use you need a shave
(oh ouch ouch oh ouch oh oh ouch)
There, you’re nice and clean
Although your face looks like it might have gone through a machine
What would you want with a rabbit
Can’t you see that I’m much sweeter
I’m your little senorit-ar
You are my type of guy
Let me straighten your tie
And I shall dance for you

Devo 2.0

Disney owns Devo… and has kids doing covers of the songs…. and now they’re on tour. It’s a Beautiful World.

I just have to laugh every time I see kids singing “jerkin’ back and forth” or “whip it” for Mickey-Corp.

So long, Tom DeLay.

Bush said the Republican Party won’t suffer from DeLay’s decision to resign from Congress. “My own judgment is that our party will continue to succeed because we are the party of ideas.”

Ok, I coughed a little soda-pop through my nose at that.

8285 – Hey! I’m wearing purple!

Dan mentioned that maybe Friday the 14th will be a good day to hang out after I get off of work (he’s a teacher and will be enjoying spring break) … we haven’t done anything since January, so there’s a lot of lost time to cover.

Axis and Allies is certainly on the list. Maybe go out and get an ethical massage, too.

Bug inspectors coming by the apartment today, and then a trip to the doc. Didn’t get to sleep in, because my on-call tech had to wake me for verification of a launch in California at 6:30am (2:30 their time)

Ah well, I’ll be able to take a midday nap as a treat, anyhow.

Had the blues a bit yesterday, but they’ve pretty much faded out for now. Probably a spring thing. I’m still a bit miffed about the unsolved mystery, but I’m just chalking it up to laziness for now.

There’s something Graypumpkin won’t hear on Bob!

Start wearing purple wearing purple
start wearing purple, for me now
all your sanity and wits, they will all vanish
I promise, it’s just a matter of time…
I know you since you were a twenty and i was twenty,
but thought that some years from now
a purple little little lady will be perfect
for dirty old and useless clown…
I know it all from Diogenes to Foucault
from Lozgechkin to Paspartu
I ja kljanus obostzav dva paltza
schto muzika poshla ot Zvukov Mu!…
Party!
So Fio-Fio-Fioletta! Etta! Va-va-va-vaja dama ti moja!
Eh podayte nam karetu, votetu, i mi poedem k ebenjam!
So yeah, start wearing purple wearing purple!
Start wearing purple for me now!
All your sanity and wits, they will all vanish,
I promise, it’s just a matter of time!…

It occurred to me this weekend that the term prophet sounds holy to me, but the term prophecy comes across as sinister, or fake.

Moment of lyric – mp3 (thank you, Firpo!)

{lyrics in braces need confirmation, due to the earliness of the hour and my poor sense of hearing}

Listen to me you explorers, Buck and Admiral Byrd,
Here’s a funny one you’ve never heard
there’s a fellow in the jungle
one you never knew
you won’t get him, but he might get you

Who’s the talk at every table from Chicago to Madrid?
Who’s the African Clark Gable?
Jojo, the Cannibal kid!

All the tribes eat fruits and berries
He’s the one that never did
He Prefers his missionaries
Jojo, the cannibal kid

He could aways pass on his manner and his savoir faire
Mix with every class – eat the finest people everywhere!

Circus sends him offers daily
{Bertram mills made him a bid}
but he’s holding out for Barnum Bailey,
Jojo the cannibal kid

Mmmmyeow…
Don’t you know? He eats them alive…
{gets the ??????}
eating out, from nine to five.

boom jigga boom jigga boom jigga boom boom
That is the Jojo way
boom jigga boom jigga boom jigga boom boom
that means he’s on the {train}

{Everybody run and get in the car, pull all the windows down
everybody find a safe place to closet}
Jojo is now in town

Who’s the talk at every table from chicago to madrid?
Who’s the African Clark Gable?
Jojo, the Cannibal kid!

All the tribes eat fruits and berries
He’s the one that never did
He Prefers his missionaries
Jojo, the cannibal kid

He could aways pass on his manner and his savoir faire
Mix with every class – eat the finest people everywhere!

Circus sends him offers daily
{Bertram mills made him a bid}
but he’s holding out for Barnum Bailey,
Jojo the cannibal kid!

Sometime this weekend, I’m going to hit the tree zoo, or do some camera-safari-type action. not sure if I’ll do it today or tomorrow, depending on which way the wind blows.

Camera also has a video making capability, see Newt Chase a paper wad here. (Kindly ignore the pile of socks visible at the end… I was preparing laundry piles when I got distracted and decided to play with Newt instead.

Cats over *6* are considered to be seniors? Newtie is still pretty dang fit, thank goodness, and not as overweight as he used to be. I know a lot of 12-year old kitties that are still plenty sprightly, too… I suspect they’re shifting the curve a bit low there.

I like the word shleep for the kind of sleep you get from counting sheep. I could use some nice, solid shleep tonight!

Think of your favorite underrated film, type the name into Google and do an image search. Find the best pic and then post it in your journal, but don’t say what the name of the movie is! Once you post the picture, it’s up to your friends to figure out what the movie is from the pic you posted!

Condo Commando meeting last night gave me brain drain, but the day at work went well. Busy, but positive. CCM was a lot of old people talking loudly and not listening to each other. Got Kudos at work, as did ECN for fine performance on call, and handling weird situations.

160 gig drive finally showed up, so the big brain drama is officially over. Started Nov. 10, 2005 – Ended March 20, 2006. Rest in peace.

Moment of Lyric (mp3)

I keep on fear, keep on loathing
Nothing brings it on I keep on falling
Decide what it is I can not find
It’s subsides what you make it
Never feel like you’re gonna break it
It’s gonna be all right all right
Sleep until the morning comes
The sun will warm your soul
Sleep until the morning comes for you
‘Til the morning it’s all right
I can walk into the sunlight, into the day, into the day, to the day
I feel it falling, nothing comes to my mind
Bring it on in a different tide
I feel all right, all right
I feel strong, I feel rigid
It’s nothing to do with the vision
Oh feels so right, so right
Sleep on tight, sleep on tight
Sleep until the sunlight
Sleep until sunlight
Sleep on tight
Sleep on tight
Sleep on tight
Sleep on tight, ’til the sunlight
Sleep on tight, ’til the sunlight burns you happy
‘Til the sunlight burns you happy, till the sunlight burns a happy hole in
Your heart,
In your heart
In your heart…

8253 – quick recap

Samuel L Jackson on Ellen on SNAKES ON A PLANE (youtube)

St. Patty’s plans got sacked for me at the last minute, this time, Mom and Wilt just had far too much to handle before launching this morning for parts south. Instead, I opted to go to Bonefish Mac’s, a place run by one of RR’s pals. IT was pretty festive and fun, though it wasn’t terribly Irish…. no green beer, though I did have a couple of Heinekins in green bottles with my grilled cheese and veggie-wich. Met some friendly folk there, and Bethany gave me her digits. (Ulterior motives, though – she needs her computer updated. Still, she’s nice, and fun to talk to, so it’d be good to get a buddy that’s a local.)

Was reminded that I can get tossed into a crew of random-folk and come out of it with a lot of comfortable conversation. That was a big win, and there were no real jerky-types at all… only one downer guy, Robert, a tile-worker / carpenter from Pennsylvania, having trouble finding work. I cave him Wilt’s card for renovations, etc… maybe he’s worth a shot as labor. He’ll have to wait a week for Wilt to return, but aside from that, I think Robert’s chances are good for finding a basic gig.
