8091 – vortiginous entry

GeotargetRS thinks that I have some big secret plans for the weekend, I think because I let her go on about her weekend plans and whatnot, and then we got to talking about something else. Nope, nothing special planned… just sleeping in and lingering around the neighborhood, doing more walkies if I can. No glamorous binges on booze and loose women, just a nice weekend out and about.

FDLE coming by the office on Monday morning, FBI Tuesday, and who knows what Wednesday will bring? Maybe big brain, ha-ha? I’m glad that HP has been as patient with me as possible.

I was so beat last night that I fell asleep at 8:30… woke up at 4ish am as a result. I suspect my weekend might be a little out of whack as a result. A bit too brisk out for a swim in the pool… maybe after the sun rises.

I find it amazing that my electric bill for the new one bedroom is less than my old studio… the old place must’ve not been very well weather sealed. $70 is almost a third less than what I paid last January. Also, automatic billpay is beautiful. I just get an email a week before it’s paid, so I can update my records, and hey, presto!

Laser pointer is nifty in the early morning fog… the line goes on for a huge distance.

Dopey dreams of work last night…I don’t much like it when the daily mundane starts stepping on areas that usually allow for people being changed into modular string bean / sabre-toothed tiger stereo components. Most of the drama that I was expecting to happen didn’t occur yesterday, so maybe that was why it was pressing on the brain. Next Friday will be considerably different, and I expect the company to have some drastic changes in one way or another by February.

May be getting together with Bro tomorrow, if plans stay on track. I think a beach walk is in order, or maybe a bike trip.

word of the day: fabiform – shaped like a bean

Speaking of words, I never seem to get a good opportunity to use the term “vortex”. (not to mention – vortical, vorticose, vorticular or vortiginous) Like kissing a woman’s hand, it’s either too much, or not enough.

Windows update now has an official security patch for the wmf vulnerability…update your system normally, and you’ll no longer need that patch posted earlier. To delete the old patch, go to the control panel, add/remove programs – It will be in the list of installed programs as “Windows WMFMetafile Vulnerability HotFix”. click on change/remove, and once it’s out, reboot. all done!

Those Yahoo ads are earning about $0.56 a day lately, down from an overall average of about $2.69 a day. (one insane day 12/15 that got nuts threw off the average.. $19.68) .. but most days haven’t broken a dollar. Upside, there has only been one day when *nothing* was earned since I started hosting them. That plus the $50 flat I get each month from my static front page linkies every month makes for a nice charity lump sum base.

1 year ago – pics of Danny and I playing pirates at twistyland, sickly mel, hippo and tortoise are pals, how infectious are dead bodies

8089 – Friday at last!

GeotargetCompUSA called me today, apologizing profusely. He said that it was still on back order, but it will take between one and two *MORE* weeks to arrive. I asked him what could be done to expedite things, and he responded that he was very sorry, but really nothing.. that they didn’t even have a loaner machine to let me chew on while I dealt with things. I’m really pretty exasperated at the whole situation.

Today at work, there will be a few confrontations, and I’m not part of any of them. I suspect they may turn ugly. Detail to follow tomorrow or Monday, no doubt.

R.I.P. Chuck Zink

I remember watching the Skipper Chuck show right before school. There isn’t a Floridian who was a kid between 1959 and 1979 who doesn’t remember Chuck Zink and his show. It was truly part of South Florida, and Mr. Zink will be sorely missed. I encountered his show when my family was living in Marathon. Thank you Mr. Zink for doing your part in making our world a better place. Peace, Love and Happiness to you on your journey.

I don’t know a lot of Florida Natives… Kat and Kev are the only two folks I can think of off of the top of my head who might remember the show.

Brrrr….at least for Florida

8087 – Another success for us!

GeotargetWell, as a direct result of my calls, Tabitha Lively was recovered safely in Orlando. Pretty keen.. that makes 132 recoveries in the last 46 months that are a direct result of my gig here.

The US Marshalls were very cool to work with, and FDLE was really on the ball, too (as usual). The Marshalls are up there with the FBI as far as professionalism.

I’ve already been interviewed by 3 news agencies regarding the story, and the big kahuna is loving the media attention she’s getting… Maybe this will keep her sourpuss attitude to a minumum the rest of this week. I’m just glad that I wore one of my nice new shirts to work… I’ll be interested in seeing how many errors the different agencies make in reporting… so far, I’ve never, ever seen an article get everything right with a story that I was aware of outside of the news agency.

8084 – It’s not too hot for tea!

GeotargetCrazy Rag-tag night on call yesterday. I don’t think I had a moment’s peace between 5:30 and 8.

It got to the point where I was in a bit of a manic panic…laughing like a hyena once a job was pushed through.

I can’t believe my birthday is in less than a month. Didn’t I just have one? I think I’m going to treat myself to a massage at the Vicki’s sister’s spa. I’m far from a metrosexual, but I’ve got nothing against a serious back rub.

Moment of Lyric (quicktime movie) (here’s the band’s website)

Too hot for tea but I’ll drink it anyway,
It’s a nice day.
Too late for him, but I’ll take him anyway,
It’s a nice day.
Happy to be Alive…
Some believe in God,
Some worship the Devil,
Some go to church,
Others pray to the moon,
On a nice day
On a nice day
I don’t care what they say
I don’t care what they say
I don’t care what they say
On a nah-nuh-nah-nuh-nah-nah-nee-nah-nah-nuhhh…
nah-nuh-nah-nuh-nah-nah-nee-nah-nah-nuhhh…

Mother on a thorn tree
It’s older and gray
asking her little girl to come back and stay
Politicians on the radio and TV today
Talking ’bout how great it is in the USA
On a nice day
I don’t care what they say
I don’t care what they say
I don’t care what they say

On a nah-nuh-nah-nuh-nah-nah-nee-nah-nah-nuhhh…
nah-nuh-nah-nuh-nah-nah-nee-nah-nah-nuhhh…
It doesn’t matter if you’re going mad
It doesn’t matter if this place is so, so, sad.

On a nice day
On a nice day
On a nice day
On a nice day
I don’t care what they say
On a nice day
I don’t care what they say
On a nice day
nah-nuh-nah-nuh-nah-nah-nee-nah-nah-nuhhh…
nah-nuh-nah-nuh-nah-nah-nee-nah-nah-nuhhh…
On a nice day…
nah-nuh-nah-nuh-nah-nah-nee-nah-nah-nuhhh…
What a niice day
nah-nuh-nah-nuh-nah-nah-nee-nah-nah-nuhhh…
On a nice dayyyyy
nah-nuh-nah-nuh-nah-nah-nee-nah-nah-nuhhh…
Ha!

I first heard of them on the Bewitched movie soundtrack, of all things. Lounge music you can dance to, pretty groovy stuff. I think her accent makes it that much better.

I still say nice as NOICE, unless I make an active effort not to.

Speaking of music videos that are noice – take a peek at Night of Fire (google video wins again!) Stuff like this reminds me to make a point of visiting Japan someday. Some sort of Asian spice girl clonettes with a tubby wrestler guy in a speedo, little red booties and golden cape singing europop cover tunes and breathing flame. What’s not to like?

The Dan-man and I went out to an all-you-dare-eat buffet for Sushi/Thai/Chinese, and it was actually quite good. Afterward, we swung by Crabby Jacks to solve his caffeine needs and Miranda got a pretty awesome tip ($5 after a bill for $0.69 – the coffee was free and I had a draft) – after we hung out a bit and chitty-chatted. I told him a bit about my beliefs regarding meeting someone for a lifelong commitment at this point (I suspect odds of meeting someone that I have chemistry with, a minimum of emotional baggage, and a mutual appreciation of one another to be very, very, very slim.) Explained to him why Magda wasn’t a viable option, though she and I did have a nice time together. I honestly don’t know if there are any wedding bells in my future, but If I were a betting man, I know that I’d opt for “not likely.” I know good couples are out there… Dave & Cathi / GrayPumpkin & Katt are two of the best examples of two pairings as well-suited for one another for life that I can think of.

In the last decade, I’ve had the following serious relationships:

Lees – 6 months
Eryn – 3 months
April – 4 months
Rachel – 6 months
CEJ – 2ish years, Almost 3 if you count on and off time
D – A bit over a year
Mel – 3 months
Magda – 5 months (9 minus the months where she was in Columbia)

Come to think of it, I don’t have any trouble getting dates… it’s the longevity that needs work. Breakups are fairly even, an assortment of reasons, from a lack of trust to a lack of interest.

Hair-wise, we’ve got a Blond x2, Brown x3, Black x2, and a Redhead
Tattoo-wise – 6 had ink.. some got it while I was with ’em.
Politics/Attitudes – Leftx2, Modx4, Rightx2
Readers – 4 yes, 4 no
eye color – Brown – 5 Hazel -1 Blue – 2
all were fairly chesty

I’ve been proposed to on two different occasions, and I honestly thought I’d end up with CEJ for life… she was the last one that gave me those sorts of feelings.

Looking back, I do pretty well, for a serial monogamist with no vehicle of his own.

Dan got me a few very nice gifts for Christmas…. No Software this year. A used book on dinosaurs, a new copy of Pratchett’s Last Hero, a t-shirt and a zip-up shirt (both too small, unfortunately), a carrying case for a digital camera/palmtop, and some jalepeno peanuts. We tried out the Peking House restauant, but it had a bad vibe, so we went to the one we’re more fond of dining at.

Moment of Lyric – mp3 / flash video (Here’s his LJ, by the way – trapezzoid)

8081 – Monday, Free day!

Not much to say today, dear journal.

As always when I have nothing to say, I toss a shload of linkies into the journal for posterity.

25 Most interesting webcams of 2005

TSG’s 2005 mug shots of the year. (Juan Llama is my fave.)

Random Scotto factoid – If I give a thumbs-up, it’s with my left hand, but thumbs-down is done with my right.

Taking Danny out for his B’Day today… I suspect it’ll be lunch, hanging out, maybe some pirates and possibly a mini-walkabout. I was thinking about getting him a fly pen computer, but instead opted for our old standby. (I dig the $100 laptop idea, too.)

Moment of Lyric – (flash video or mp3, video is superior, but mp3 is better for listening to on the road)

Old Godzilla was hopping around
Tokyo City like a big playground
when suddenly Batman burst from the shade
and hit Godzilla with a Bat-grenade
Godzilla got pissed and began to attack
but didn’t expect to be blocked by Shaq
who proceeded to open up a can of Shaq Fu
when Aaron Carter came out of the blue

and he started beating up Shaquille O’Neal
then they both got flattened by the Batmobile
but before it could make it back to the Batcave
Abraham Lincoln popped out of his grave
and took an AK47 out from under his hat
and blew Batman away with a rat-a-tat-tat
but he ran out of bullets and he ran away
because Optimus Prime came to save the day

this is the Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny
good guys, bad guys, and explosions as far as the eye can see
and only one will survive, I wonder who it will be
this is the Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny

Godzilla took a bite out of Optimus Prime
like Scruff McGruff took a bite out of crime
and then Shaq came back covered in a tire track
but Jackie Chan jumped out and landed on his back
and Batman was injured, and trying to get steady
when Abraham Lincoln came back with a machete
but suddenly something caught his leg and he tripped
Indiana Jones took him out with his whip

then he saw Godzilla sneaking up from behind
and he reached for his gun which he just couldn’t find
’cause Batman stole it and he shot and he missed
and Jackie Chan deflected it with his fist
then he jumped in the air and did a somersault
while Abraham Lincoln tried to pole vault
onto Optimus Prime, but they collided in the air
then they both got hit by a Care Bear Stare, oooh

this is the Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny
good guys, bad guys, and explosions as far as the eye can see
and only one will survive, I wonder who it will be
this is the Ultimate Showdown…

angels sang out in immaculate chorus
down from the heavens descended Chuck Norris
who delivered a kick which could shatter bones
into the crotch of Indiana Jones
who fell over on the ground, writhing in pain
as Batman changed back into Bruce Wayne
but Chuck saw through his clever disguise
and he crushed Batman’s head in between his thighs

then Gandalf the Grey and Gandalf the White and
“Monty Python and the Holy Grail”‘s Black Knight and
Benito Mussolini and The Blue Meanie and
Cowboy Curtis and Jambi the Genie
Robocop, the Terminator, Captain Kirk, and Darth Vader
Lo Pan, Superman, every single Power Ranger
Bill S. Preston and Theodore Logan,
Spock, The Rock, Doc Ock, and Hulk Hogan
all came out of nowhere lightning fast
and they kicked Chuck Norris in his cowboy ass
it was the bloodiest battle the world ever saw
with civilians looking on total awe

and the fight raged on for a century
many lives were claimed, but eventually
the champion stood, the rest saw their better:
Mr. Rogers in a bloodstained sweater

this is the Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny
good guys, bad guys, and explosions as far as the eye can see
and only one will survive, I wonder who it will be
this is the Ultimate Showdown…
this is the Ultimate Showdown…
this is the Ultimate Showdown…

8079 – Welcome, 2006!

Geotarget

Something I post at the top of every new year, and I appreciate the words more with every additional trip around the sun.

Love is
is not rude,
it is not self seeking,
it is not easily angered,
it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil
but rejoices in truth.
It always protects,
always trusts,
always hopes,
always perseveres.

-1 Corinthians 13:5&6

Dan Turns 44 tomorrow.

I won’t bother with a year in review, as there were 976 entries for 2005. ( 2004 had 716 entries, and my numbering system started in mid 2003, so if you want to know how many entries I did for earlier years, feel free to check here and add at whim.)

I’m happy to say that I’ve maintained at least one entry a day since 8/21/2000. It’s an easier feat than it sounds… who says a man can’t commit?

Light haze mixed with clouds is present in the Southern part of the US (also refer to TERRA MODIS Rapidfire image below). EPA ground based air quality monitors reported mostly moderate conditions in this region. I suspect that some of the haze/smoke is also coming from Mexico in addition to the fires Jill and Amy noticed earlier in the week. IDEA produces a composite of wind trajectories and MODIS AOD; today’s product reinforces my claim.

Several noticeable fires were also evident in Florida.

Cats lack receptors for sweet taste. I can vouch that they do have an affinity for basil, oregano and spearmint, however.
