Looks good, works smoothly under Mozzy.
Weather Yesterday knocked me out. Made me wicked sleepy… After work, I had a long nap, and then watched Fog of War. It was quite fascinating, and I’d recommend it to anyone. First Time I’ve checked out the special features. Subtitles are in French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese, and the additional scenes are of value.
Krispy Kreme outlets will be giving away free doughnuts on 3 June 2005. (tomorrow)
OneWordMovie [Flash] asks you for any term and then produces a movie made from image search results of Google and others.
I enjoyed putting scottobear in there, since it’s unique enough to just flip though stuff related to my life, usually images posted in LJ. slowest speed is my preferred viewing method.
Gave platelets again last night. (pre-nap) Fortunately, the saline wasn’t as painful this time. I miss going at midday, when the nearby sub shop would bring over a free sammich instead of the center giving a packet of famous amos and a diet coke. Ah well, it’s charity, I’m not in it for the free lunch.
I’m already missing MP, and she’s not even gone yet. I’m a dope for getting too emotionally invested.
Newt loves it when I read to him at night. I don’t think it’s remotely strange to read him a bedtime story before we go to sleep. I like reading aloud, and he’s a good listener (when he’s not trying to sit on the book being read.)
I had a talk the other day with a coworker. They’re upset about the low level of respect that’s doled out in the office. My response is that what they think or say really doesn’t matter. If they don’t respect you, and you know you deserve respect… that’s them being ignorant. I don’t think it was very comforting.
Bro called me, still hasn’t gotten his new cell-phone, and wants me to help him get this fishing pole out of storage to better get some food from off the land. I think he’s got a telemarketing gig now, too. I’m hoping that I can get those for him shortly.
Boy, church sure has changed since last time I went (via qdot) [possibly nsfw]
Lately, I’ve been going to bed hungry. I’d rather have a little pang than bother to get up an eat. I don’t know if that’s better or worse for my diet, but sloth has officially defeated gluttony in my deadly sin ratings.
No good comcast resolution, so I canceled my billing with them. I may get the “dish”, or I may just do without regular TV for a while. I can keep myself very entertained without cable, considering I only really watch shows that I torrent lately.
I’m a terrible one for philosophy, mainly because most of what’s been presented to me has too much sophistry for me to accept.

It is astonishing that a potential law could even reach the stage of being voted on in the USA that says if you witness or ‘become aware’ that neighbors or friends have broken the law with narcotics (which presumes you are a competent judge of that), you will be compelled by law to denounce them to the police. Failure to do so means prosecution and the threat of a two year sentence yourself if convicted of simply minding your own business. Even if you disagree with the drug laws, you will be threatened with prison if you do not actively help enforce them against other people.
Raining like all the doggies in doggie heaven were let out into the yard at the same time.
First day of hurricane season, and it looks like Ma Nature is making the effort to drive a point home. I had food delivered for lunch today – BBQ tofu burger and fries. yummy, and they made a point of giving me lots of hot tater-sticks this time. (last go-round, I suspect the driver may’ve gotten munchies on the way over.)
any hurricane-related purchases for the next 2 weeks is tax-exempt, and home depot is doing an additional discount too. I’m due to pick up a new cooler, I think.
Water is coming down in huge, heavy drops, and the sky’s cloudy.
I’d love to be home curled up in a ball under a cool sheet with a nice nap now.
Lovely night. MP was a sweetheart. I got off work at 4, she didn’t start until 7, so we got a chance to hang for a few hours by the beach. I’m really glad that she’ll be back in 3-4 months. I’m getting a little attached, though I think I’ll know enough to ease up once she sets sail. I’ve tried long distance relationships, and they don’t seem to work out for me in the long run. (in the short run, they’re just fine, though.)
We got plantains, and we fed them to one another. (that’s as romantic as anyone will see in a public post of mine, I suspect)
At the club:

Miyah is doing a great Job as Mzk’s replacement, and Melissa is a very good replacement for Marissa.
All the barstaff are very kind to me, and I can’t buy a Diet Coke… the’y ll keep my filled up on fountain stuff. I still tip well, to be nice, though.

Gorillaz vs. Cake – “Never Feel Good” is a fun little ditty, especially if you’re familiar with the sources.
Rywalt is right. All of the characters in Lost are in Zork. The whole show is one giant text adventure game.
I wonder what permanent changes my life will make in the grand scheme of things. Have Taught anyone anything? Implemented some behavior that will continue to make a difference?
I’d like to have some way of looking at a person, and getting a “residual effect” analysis on them. How much goodwill have they passed along? Where did it go from there?
Maybe little glowing white streaks or lines connecting to others…. like chain lightening. I imagine some people would be utterly blotted out by a dazzling nimbus of positivity. Some old schoolteacher, maybe. I’d like to run that sort of analysis on myself… just to see how much I’ve contributed to the lives of my friends.
Newt and I would have a big ol’ tendril or two going back and forth between us, I’m sure.
Even a Santa-style list would be nice. Flip through, looking at names, seeing who you remembered touching in some way, and seeing where that same energy splintered off to other folks.

How The Chipmunk Got His Stripes / A Native American Legend – Nation Unknown
This Memorial Day, please pause to honor the men and women who died so that we might enjoy the gift of freedom. Let us never forget their sacrifice.
At 3:00 p.m., simply stop what you are doing and think for one minute about those who died for your freedom. If you are driving, turn on your vehicle’s headlights.
As you participate in the National Moment of Remembrance, you are helping reclaim Memorial Day for the noble purpose for which it was established:to honor those who died in service to our nation. It is a minute of reflection that everyone can spare.
MP got a little steamed when she saw me talking to Em. Calmed down shortly after, but it was a little sensitive there for a bit.
WHT-EVER tattoo update, it was originally just an “R” on the pinkie finger, for her then husband, but a divorce led her to blot it out. Identified her southern accent – Arkansas.
“I’m really glad that worked… those would’ve been terrible last words!”
New Doctor who 2-parter (eps 9 & 10) were quite good indeed. I like the style of the plague. Maybe too many sexuality issues for a show for kids.
Interesting that they’re maintaining a sort of internal continuity. Next ep looks good, too.
Lost finale was good too. I was really suspecting the HS teacher was a mole that would turn on ’em at the last minute. I guess that’s not likely at this point.

Went out and about with Danny yesterday. We didn’t do movies, instead, we hit tarpon bend – I had some conch, he had clams. Ashley, our waitress was nice, the food was average fare.
Afterwards, we went to both Barnes & Noble and Archives for Book-snooping. I didn’t buy any, but was tempted by a few things. Danny got a study guide for Earth Science and Astronomy, to help with certification and teaching those courses next year. We looked for Pratchett’s “The Last Hero”, but it wasn’t in stock.
Dan left about 5ish, and I sat back home… noticed my TV cable is out. I called Comcast, but all I got was a recording, and notification that a human would get back to me on Tuesday. Hopefully, it’ll return before that, but now that it’s morning, and still nothing, I suspect not. I hoofed it down the road to catch the first moonlight movie… I’d forgotten how good Forrest Gump is. Before the main feature, they showed a Laurel and Hardy movie – flying deuces., but stopped it about 20 minutes in, when they realized it wasn’t a short, but over an hour long. The other flub was that at 11pm sharp, the sprinklers turned on. I’m quite thankful that I parked off the grass and sat on a sidewalk bench facing the movie. Side note, there’s something meta about watching Forrest wait for a bus on screen while sitting in a park bench off-screen.
Pictures and doodles from yesterday.:
Just setting up the screen. new setup this year.. it’s on an inflatable frame. Pretty nifty, and sets up *fast*
My original spot… I opted for a side seat, because I didn’t want to see a lot of heads in the way of the screen when folks got up for breaks.
Movie start… still twilight.
Pov with night lights. the parking garage was rather bright, but not a distraction.

Sitting in the dark.

Drawn during the “coconut shrimp, pan fried shrimp, etc” scene.

I saw a bicycle rickshaw roll by and I got to thinking tarot-y chariot thoughts – Wheel of Fortune, hanged man, and tower are on top. Interesting that my memory reversed both hanged man and tower details. I’m surprised that I didn’t draw the lovers and the devil, come to think of it.
Walk home – buk 50, d0se and deph were at Riverwalk sometime earlier, it seems.
In the sidewalk lights near Ikon, a pair of desiccated lizard husks rest in peace. Who knows how they got inside, but they were trapped.. never to leave.
Enough procrastinating, I need to sit down and do my writing assignment that was due 2 days ago. Naughty Scotto.

After the trailer you get redirected to a site with nice sounds and mysterious pictures. Have fun.
Note to self, pick up a new crimping tool to add cables to the network on Wednesday.

“So, after Joss Whedon is fired from the Wonder Woman movie because Serenity bombed, who do you think they’ll get to direct it?”
Hanging out with Danny for lunch today! Too bad I’m playing cheapskate until I get paid on Tuesday. I don’t think I’ll bother with the free moonlight movie… Forrest Gump isn’t that appealing to me.
I might go out with mzk this weekend sometime along with tiffany before heather finally heads off to parts west.
Farewell, Eddie Albert. 99 years is a good run. Not bad at all, Mr. Douglas.

Man Arrested for Wearing Grinch Mask
City and county attorneys are defending Wheeling police who arrested a man for wearing a Grinch mask while walking along a city street.
Norman Eugene Gray, 42, was arrested Tuesday. He was arraigned and released on a personal recognizance bond.
Officers saw Gray about 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, told him to take the mask off and not put it on again. Gray removed it and asked why he could not wear it, according to Wheeling police reports. Officers told him wearing masks in public is illegal. Continue reading 7402 – So much for me being a mystery man!
Wicked amounts of rain are coming and going lately. It killed power to my apartment last night for about 15 minutes, and was roaring in the late afternoon.
Incense smells better during a rainstorm. I’m more sleepy. Newt is more lovey, too. Everyone wins!
Haven’t shaved this week. I may go for full-beard mojo again.

Speaking of Match Game, I always preferred the red circle to the green triangle player logo. I’d have been happiest with a green circle.
Apparently I like shapes more than colors.

Em has “WHT” tattooed on one hand’s finger-joints, and “EVER” on the other. I thought it was “WHT / POWER”(only saw the VER) for a minute. I wonder if her southern accent colored my guess? till sort of a silly thing to have written on your mitts.
She’s also got her tongue and lower lip pierced.
I’ve mentioned this before, but it seems like I now know more women with ink than without it… maybe by a ration of 3:1 or so. It seems like tattoos are more a girl thing now than a boy thing.
Quote of the Day:
“Give me an underground laboratory, half a dozen atom-smashers, and a girl in a diaphanous veil waiting to be turned into a chimpanzee, and I care not who writes the nation’s laws.” – S.J. Perelman
Via Patton Oswalt –
I walked down to the gas station to buy a bar of soap earlier, and the girl at the counter said all the soap had been shoplifted that day.
“For real?” I asked.
“Oh, they do it all the time. They cut it up into little chunks, and sell it as counterfeit meth.”
I said, “Doesn’t that get them killed?”
“Yeah, lots. There’s stories about it on the news all the time.”
Hoo boy.
Moment of Lyric:
I see a bad moon rising,
I see trouble on the way,
I see earthquakes and lightnin’
I see bad times todaySo don’t come ’round tonight
It’s bound to take your life
There’s a bad moon on the riseI hear hurricanes a-blowin’
I fear the end is comin’ soon
I fear river’s over flowing
I hear the voice of rage and ruinSo don’t come ’round tonight
It’s bound to take your life
There’s a bad moon on the riseHope you have got your things together
Hope you are quite prepared to die
Looks like we’re in for nasty weather

When I walk to the bus stop… (or on more cool and non-rainy days, to the 2nd stop), or in the evening, all the way home from work, I can’t help but be amazed at the idea of a city like the one I live in.
Everything here was brought from somewhere else and stacked up, cemented and painted by hand.
It’s so easy to fall into the belief that buildings and roads just spring up out of nowhere. Whenever I stop to think that every brick and wire was put down in place by a person… well, I’m astounded.
I look at satellite maps a lot during the course of a a week, and the fact that some states are practically paved over, or at least farmed and touched by man in a way mean
Seriously, look at Massachusetts! http://maps.google.com/maps?spn=77.695313,121.816406&t=k&hl=en
Even from a point of view that shows all of North America, you can see the box of where that area is defined. When you zoom in, almost anywhere, you see little gray or tan squares where people have come and just reworked things competely.
Part of what amazes me is that we can get so many people working together towards a common goal… even over a really long period of time. Maybe it’s a little perverse of me to say so, but I get a sort of satisfaction in knowing that thousands, millions of people worked together to make it easy to find shelter, food, entertainment and comfort.
I know the system is far from perfect. We make messes. Unpleasant folks cut corners, or worse. But, overall, it’s awe-inspiring.
Glass buildings, 50 stories tall. Somebody on a scaffold… a person put each pane in place.
I would like someone to give me a big bag of money so that I can retire in comfort, without financial woes.
Barring that, I’d like someone to make a loaf of banana bread for me.
Or just to slack off and sleep in, snuggled down with Newt.
not today… but there is a long weekend coming up! Slackfest!

“These panties will monitor the location of your daughter, wife or girlfriend 24 hours a day, and can even monitor their heart rate and body temperature. Use our patented mapping system, pantyMap®, to find the exact location of your loved one 24 hours a day.”
See, I could see this as being really useful to monitor kids… but the application is nuts here. (I suspect it’s a gag – see comments as to why)
