7400 – Fannie Flagg says *PATOOTIE* (and other quotes)

Wicked amounts of rain are coming and going lately. It killed power to my apartment last night for about 15 minutes, and was roaring in the late afternoon.

Incense smells better during a rainstorm. I’m more sleepy. Newt is more lovey, too. Everyone wins!

Haven’t shaved this week. I may go for full-beard mojo again.

How to grow your own armchair.

It took a woodchuck to remind me how hot Audrey Landers was, back in the day. Thanks, Gene Rayburn!

Speaking of Match Game, I always preferred the red circle to the green triangle player logo. I’d have been happiest with a green circle.

Apparently I like shapes more than colors.

Things I shouldn’t have to yell at Newt at 6am – “DON’T STEP IN THE CAKE!”

My current desktop wallpaper: SWAT MONKEY

Em has “WHT” tattooed on one hand’s finger-joints, and “EVER” on the other. I thought it was “WHT / POWER”(only saw the VER) for a minute. I wonder if her southern accent colored my guess? till sort of a silly thing to have written on your mitts.

She’s also got her tongue and lower lip pierced.

I’ve mentioned this before, but it seems like I now know more women with ink than without it… maybe by a ration of 3:1 or so. It seems like tattoos are more a girl thing now than a boy thing.

Quote of the Day:

“Give me an underground laboratory, half a dozen atom-smashers, and a girl in a diaphanous veil waiting to be turned into a chimpanzee, and I care not who writes the nation’s laws.” – S.J. Perelman

Via Patton Oswalt –

I walked down to the gas station to buy a bar of soap earlier, and the girl at the counter said all the soap had been shoplifted that day.

“For real?” I asked.

“Oh, they do it all the time. They cut it up into little chunks, and sell it as counterfeit meth.”

I said, “Doesn’t that get them killed?”

“Yeah, lots. There’s stories about it on the news all the time.”

Hoo boy.

Moment of Lyric:

I see a bad moon rising,
I see trouble on the way,
I see earthquakes and lightnin’
I see bad times today

So don’t come ’round tonight
It’s bound to take your life
There’s a bad moon on the rise

I hear hurricanes a-blowin’
I fear the end is comin’ soon
I fear river’s over flowing
I hear the voice of rage and ruin

So don’t come ’round tonight
It’s bound to take your life
There’s a bad moon on the rise

Hope you have got your things together
Hope you are quite prepared to die
Looks like we’re in for nasty weather
One eye is taken for an eye

4 years ago – nice dreams, four legs good, two legs bad, saw Shrek, first mobile entry from the laptop

5 years ago – I’d not yet committed to daily entries.

7399 – Happy Ant!

When I walk to the bus stop… (or on more cool and non-rainy days, to the 2nd stop), or in the evening, all the way home from work, I can’t help but be amazed at the idea of a city like the one I live in.

Everything here was brought from somewhere else and stacked up, cemented and painted by hand.

It’s so easy to fall into the belief that buildings and roads just spring up out of nowhere. Whenever I stop to think that every brick and wire was put down in place by a person… well, I’m astounded.

I look at satellite maps a lot during the course of a a week, and the fact that some states are practically paved over, or at least farmed and touched by man in a way mean

Seriously, look at Massachusetts! http://maps.google.com/maps?spn=77.695313,121.816406&t=k&hl=en

Even from a point of view that shows all of North America, you can see the box of where that area is defined. When you zoom in, almost anywhere, you see little gray or tan squares where people have come and just reworked things competely.

Part of what amazes me is that we can get so many people working together towards a common goal… even over a really long period of time. Maybe it’s a little perverse of me to say so, but I get a sort of satisfaction in knowing that thousands, millions of people worked together to make it easy to find shelter, food, entertainment and comfort.

I know the system is far from perfect. We make messes. Unpleasant folks cut corners, or worse. But, overall, it’s awe-inspiring.

Glass buildings, 50 stories tall. Somebody on a scaffold… a person put each pane in place.

7398 – Thursday.

I would like someone to give me a big bag of money so that I can retire in comfort, without financial woes.

Barring that, I’d like someone to make a loaf of banana bread for me.

Or just to slack off and sleep in, snuggled down with Newt.

not today… but there is a long weekend coming up! Slackfest!

“These panties will monitor the location of your daughter, wife or girlfriend 24 hours a day, and can even monitor their heart rate and body temperature. Use our patented mapping system, pantyMap®, to find the exact location of your loved one 24 hours a day.”

See, I could see this as being really useful to monitor kids… but the application is nuts here. (I suspect it’s a gag – see comments as to why)

7396 – Crikey. Only Wednesday?

No word from bro in over a week. maybe two weeks. getting calls about jobs for him, but no dice in getting in touch. report shows that he visited his officer 2 days ago. I imagine he’s hiding uot because I caught him with Andy.

I’m wanting to be really lazy today. Maybe after work. Dopey ol’ Ethic!

Getting tired of recent lj drama on my reading list, I thought I dropped all of those type of folks, ages ago. probably time to do more.

3D X-Rays – A revolutionary new x-ray machine gives a 3D picture of the human body. The x-rays strip away layer upon layer of the human body to reveal the skeleton underneath. (Not for the squeamish)

I would love to have a copy of this progressive scan of me, and of Newt.

Moment of Lyric:

And I don’t understand why I sleep all day
And I start to complain that there’s no rain
And all I can do is read a book to stay awake
And it rips my life away, but it’s a great escape
escape……escape……escape……

7395 – Modified quiz meme.

1. Reply and I’ll write something about you.
2. I will then tell you what song/movie/artist reminds me of you.
3. I will tell you something I like about you.
4. I will tell you the first memory of you that comes to mind.
5. I will tell you what reminds me of you on an ordinary basis.
6. I’ll then tell you something that I’ve wondered about you.

7394 – Have fun with Walt and Ms. Leota.

Sing it on Home, TR. (music and graphics, high nostalgia factor for me)

RIP, Uncle Thurl. Your talent is one that will felt long after your passing.

MP called me out of the blue yesterday afternoon just to say hi. That was brief, but nice.

Land Of the Dead! (thanks for the point, missv!)

MMm. I loves me some Zombies. I hope I can get some HuFu dumplings to snack on in time to see it.

Moment of Lyric:

And you get in your car and drive real far.
And you drive all night and then you see a light.
And it comes right down and it lands on the ground.
And out comes the man from Mars.
And you try to run but he’s got a gun.
And he shoots you dead and he eats your head.

GrayPumpkin is now up to episode 8 of the new Dr Who, and his opinions mirror my own pretty closely. So Far, I think the first three are still my favorites of the season.

My love is in a space in my heart
A little like loose change some times
A little bit linty at others,
But always there with me, I know…
Because I put my hand there,
And I feel it.

No Date time with MP yesterday… she was mopey and was more in the mood to just go home and chill. Ah well, next time.

I rode with mzkitten on the bus back to her place, instead. She has a more positive outlook right now… I think she’s pretty happy with her current path, at last.

The bus goes right to the front of the building, but we got mega-rained on, regardless.

Pictures of mzk from yesterday, at club and on the bus.

7387 – a nice night out.

Saw The new Star wars movie. It was fun, worth seeing. A Nice, straight line between ep2 and 4. Love scenes bad and one “Vader moment” that made me laugh out loud, but the rest was fine by me. Far superior to eps 1 & 2. I may like it more than Jedi.

I was a little worried after the whole “SITH HAPPENS” advertising campaign. It’s too bad I couldn’t get a hold of Jenjen to come. Heather couldn’t make it.. she was too tuckered out to go, too.

I got to see: Ramada Jen, Kev, Bheesh & his kids, Paul, Sandy & Alex, and Karen. After the movie, we went to Champp’s.. food came late, so we got some freebie coupons for next time. The Cheese Quesadilla was yummy.

Apophenia: The Tendency to see connections where none exist.

Moment of Lyric: (mp3)

I’d like to help you doctor
Yes I really really would
But the din in my head
It’s too much and it’s no good
I’m standing in a windy tunnel
Shouting through the roar
And I’d like to give the information
You’re asking for

But blood makes noise
It’s a ringing in my ear
Blood makes noise
And I can’t really hear you
In the thickening of fear

7386 – Governor Bush Announces Results Of Statewide Sex Offender/Predator Sweep

~Coordinated effort yields the location of 537 sexual offenders in 30 day sweep~

Governor Jeb Bush and Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Guy Tunnell today announced preliminary results of a month long statewide effort to locate, and where appropriate, arrest individuals who have absconded from Florida’s sexual offender and predator registry. The Sexual Offender Apprehension Program (SOAP) resulted in the location of 537 absconders. Of these absconders, 203 were arrested and 334 were verified as deceased, deported, incarcerated, determined to be no longer living in Florida, or located and registered in accordance with the law. In addition, addresses were verified for another 739 sexual predators and offenders and 40 arrests were made on other charges. The mission of the operation focused on locating absconded sexual offenders and predators, arresting those who were non-compliant, and verifying the whereabouts of many others. 7385 – Thursday

Star Wars Tonight at 6:30, after work.

RIP Frank Gorshin.

I’ll be interested in seeing if this is true. PETA Kills Animals.

“Hypocrisy is the mother of all credibility problems, and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has it in spades,” states the website. “While loudly complaining about the ‘unethical’ treatment of animals by restaurant owners, grocers, farmers, scientists, anglers and countless other Americans, the group has its own dirty little secret.

“PETA kills animals. By the thousands.

“From July 1998 through the end of 2003, PETA killed over 10,000 dogs, cats and other ‘companion animals’ – at its Norfolk, Virginia, headquarters. That’s more than five defenseless animals every day. The group put to death over 85 percent of the animals it took in during 2003 alone. And its angel-of-death pattern shows no sign of changing.”

Moment of Lyric:

We’re coming to the edge, running on the water
Coming through the fog, your sons and daughters
We, the great and small, stand on a star
And blaze a trail of desire through the dark’ning dawn…
Let the river run
Let all the dreamers wake the nation
Come, the New Jerusalem
