Bzz Bzz Bzz… the day, she is a hump, yes?
I heard the word “cut” as “turned” yesterday. As in “I had the phone cut back on, since my dad lent me $20.” Cut on? Is that legit, or does that sound weird… when I hear the “He had his arm cut off in a car accident.” I don’t think “Well, I hope he gets to a doctor fast, and is able to cut it back on!”
In regards to writing: “Like you I feel that the short story is a more perfect form than the novel. I tend to be very descriptive and end up running long for short stories. I’m told that I have an immersive richly styled prose, unfortunately I think I’m more style than substance but hey it works for a lot of folks. You on the other hand are more substantive, I find your observances intriguing and would certainly fork over the bucks to read them.”
That’s high praise from someone I consider to be a fine creative talent. Thanks, GP.
Note to self – Pick up some fresh flowers for Mel after work, or during lunch.
Moment of Lyric –
We’re going down to meet it
I ain’t no student
Feel those vibrations
Of ancient culture
I know a neat excavation
Before I talk I should read a book
But there’s one thing That I do know
There’s a lot of ruins In Mesopotamia
Day Off the Dead – It’s hard enough falling in love when you’re alive, imagine what it’s like in the afterworld. Watch as a dead guy and dead gal fall in love through a series of short, sweet sentimental segments.

Mel is still ill… went to the doc and will be returning on Wednesday. I’m a little worried, but hopefully she’ll mend soon. She didn’t make it over last night.. and I missed hanging out with Danny on his day off. Bah!
Upside, JH is coming along in training, and MA looks like she’ll work with me on the coming schedule shifts.
Moment of Lyric –
Don’t be burdened by regrets
Or make your failures an obsession
Or become embittered or possessed
By ruined hopes rememberWhen you take yourself for granted
Feel rejected and unwanted
Know you’re never just a hat
You’re never only just a hat, you know

Poor Melly-belly is still sickly. She’s going back to the doc today if she wakes up and isn’t 200% better than she was last night. I wonder if she didn’t get the flu or something on top of everything else, or if she’s just feeling the effects of the yuck leaving her system.
More purple healing vibes for her!
Maybe an upgrade to fuchsia will help.
I’m going to have her over the house after work, and play nurse some more. A little soup and pampering can’t hurt. I like making her comfortable.
Experimenting with converting AVI to DVD… this has been quite handy. (Considering that my HD was building up, and I’m due to wipe out some of the old stuff.)

Windy Cold Day
ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST FLORIDA METRO AREAS, WIND CHILLS ARE EXPECTED TO REACH THE 30 TO 35 DEGREE RANGE INTO MONDAY MORNING.
A WIND CHILL ADVISORY IS ISSUED WHEN WIND WILL COMBINE WITH COLD TEMPERATURES TO CREATE VERY COLD CONDITIONS FOR EXPOSED SKIN. THE WIND WILL MAKE IT FEEL LIKE IT IS 35 DEGREES FOR A PERIOD OF SEVERAL HOURS. THOSE PLANNING TO VENTURE OUTDOORS SHOULD DRESS WARMLY, MAKING SURE THAT EXPOSED SKIN IS COVERED.
I didn’t notice it getting too cold.. an extra blanket and Newt was happy as a toasty little bug. not bad.. it’ll be back to mild by this afternoon, I think.

… Wind Chill Advisory Sunday night into Monday morning for wind chill readings of 35 degrees or lower…
A cold front will sweep across South Florida on Sunday. Cold air will usher into the area behind the front Sunday afternoon through Monday morning. Temperatures are forecast to fall into the 30s across most of the area by Monday morning… even near the coast. The wind may continue strong enough Sunday night to create cold wind chills. As such… a Wind Chill Advisory has been issued for the area. A Wind Chill Advisory is issued when temperatures and wind will combine to create wind chill readings of 35 degrees or lower.
I know it doesn’t sound like much to folks up north, but a lot of people in this part of Florida don’t know how to dress for proper warmth. The record low before this for tomorrow was 29°F / -1°C in 1985. Time to trot out the extra blankets! I worry about the local homeless population… especially the older ones.

7135 – Saturday Morning
Stayed an extra 2 hours at work last night to get the budgets out on time.
ErN’s cable net is still out, so I handed it off to MoA, who was more than happy to pick up some extra bucks. I’m on call today, at east until he gets tech support.
Mel came by last night, and the poor girl is pretty dang unhappy with her germed, snotty, sore-throaty situation. I made her as comfy as I could.. burned her some VCDs of desperate housewives/growing up Gotti.
We traded ghost stories, watched tv, and I think that I helped her to be less miserable.
I got calls from bro, the mom, and Danny last night all within 10 minutes of each other. I love my family and friends, but I was starting to really dislike the phone.
Current moment of Lyric: (thanks, misspriss!)

Yep. It’s strep. Bleah.. poor Mel’s going to be on antibiotics for a week. She’s going to be a sad little sicky-pants for a little while. [update – after a night of rest, she’s feeling a bit better, but still fairly icky-sicky. I may have to take call tonight anyway, but I hope Sunday will find the majority of the yuck out of her system.]

Looks like Mel’s got strep or a really bad sinus infection. She’s going to the doc this morning to look into it. I don’t have any symptoms yet, though some of the women at work have also been pretty sick lately… RI, ADP, and LD in particular.
I don’t think Sammy did it, but he’s been sickly, too.
You know what, dear journal? I hereby claim February as “NO NEW DRAMA MONTH”. I don’t want anyone I care about to get sick, get into a serious argument, go to jail, have a natural disaster occur to them, have money problems, launch or receive any sort of ballistic, emotional, spiritual or hand to hand damage. Let’s see if we can get through 28 days without a lot of hubbub.
Also, if it’s not too much trouble… try to resolve some existing drama. Forgive someone, share some good love, spread cheer. Do something to make someone smile.

On an up note, the weather has been gorgeous lately. Morning at 50, midday at 65, clear skies.
Later this year, the Korean government will put wireless broadband robots into 200 post offices around the country. Instead giving the robots on-board cognitive capabilities, the researchers are outsourcing the sensing and processing work to central computers via a wireless link. They’ll come in “male” and “female” models: the male will serve as a guard and will be armed with a projectile net that it can deploy to immobilize troublemakers, and the female will help customers and display entertaining video clips to people waiting in line. The project, which is part of a larger “Ubiquitous Robot Companion” initiative, is being spearheaded by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), which also plans to put 100 domestic robots into houses in the next couple of years. 7131 – Fabled Monkey King's 'tomb' discovered
A “tomb” of the legendary Monkey King and his brother has been found on a mountain peak in Shunchang County, Fujian Province.
Examination of the “tomb” in a temple on the highest peak of Baoshan Mountain dates it to between the late Yuan (1271-1368) and early Ming (1368-1644) period.
The temple covers about 18 square metres and the tomb is 2.9 metres wide and 1.3 metres deep.
Two headstones in front of the “tomb” bear the carved titles of the Monkey King and his brother in regular script.
Wang Yimin, curator of the local museum explained that the Monkey King has two sisters and two brothers in an earlier story about a Tang monk’s journey to India in search of Buddhist Sutras.
But in the “Journey to the West,” written by Wu Cheng’en (1330-1400) later, Monkey King had integrated all the magic powers of his brothers and sisters into himself, reports the Fuzhou channel of xinhuanet.com.
