Mel’s cousin bonked her head yesterday, and got knocked out… four years old. I hope to hear the little munchkin woke up and is mending well today. We’re going to get together for lunch today, after I finish fixing Caroline’s computer. Man, that’s been an ongoing chore…. a four or five year old laptop with power-supply issues.

Charo is an awesome guitarist. I had no idea that she was married to Xavier Cugat!

Diary of one of the survivors of the Donner Party.

I thought Rodger Bumpass and Dick Butkus had terrible, mockable names… but Dick Trickle? You can’t tell me that he wasn’t destroyed in school for having that name, dear journal.

Some Abstinence Programs Mislead Teens, Report Says

Many American youngsters participating in federally funded abstinence-only programs have been taught over the past three years that abortion can lead to sterility and suicide, that half the gay male teenagers in the United States have tested positive for the AIDS virus, and that touching a person’s genitals “can result in pregnancy,” a congressional staff analysis has found.

Those and other assertions are examples of the “false, misleading, or distorted information” in the programs’ teaching materials, said the analysis, released yesterday, which reviewed the curricula of more than a dozen projects aimed at preventing teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease. 7043 – fa-la-la-la-la, la-la- um… line?

The last episode of Lost was 42 minutes and 1 second out of a traditional hour. So… that’s 17 minutes and 59 seconds of commercials…and people wonder why I download episodes wholesale.

Eye contact is a good thing. There’s a powerful strength there.

I got a lovely holiday card from meredith and heath, thank you! (I’ve kissed little Newt’s noggin as requested.) 😀

It’s nice to have the whole house clean. It makes the whole place’s vibe feel a lot more fresh.

7042 – blood diamonds

VS asked me today at lunch why I was so dead set against the diamond industry. (Her uncle is a jeweller.)

I told her a bit about blood diamonds (not for the especially squeamish)

http://campus.murraystate.edu/academic/faculty/kevin.binfield/BloodDiamonds.html

and she came back to me with “well, I’m not that deep… I do know that I want a diamond engagement ring.”

I was pretty stunned… Her attitude was “sure, people suffer, but I want my rock”.

Sakes… if you must have one, you can certainly do a little research and work around it.

7039 – Relax. You’re quite safe here.

Passing the warning Hartz brand products can be dangerous to your kitties.

by way of blackhellcat and faerie’s entry.

Building a case against a stalker for a friend… she’s filed a complaint at the police department , building a case for a restraining order. She got bounced from Pompano Pd, to Oakland, to Broward… they kept giving her nonsense about jurisdiction. Why so many stalker-nuts in the world? Ah well, building a paper trail is half the battle.

I remember the good old days when cutting edge computer graphics were vectors, and my favorite meal was alphabetty spaghetti letters in tomato sauce, right from the can.

1985ish.

Random Scotto factoid:

I tend to attract women with at least five of the following attributes, usually seven or more –

  • Artist (usually singer)
  • depressive, or manic/depressive
  • clever
  • extremely multi-faceted
  • OCD, especially the Obsessive side.
  • likes to smoke herb
  • nice breasts
  • inked or pierced
  • younger than me, by 5 years or more
  • Married too early, and divorced within 2 years.
  • Whimsical, but a capacity for dark humor, too.

Not too bad, all told. I’ve never had a relationship with more bad than good. I’ve consistantly been a good provider of emotional support, physical security, and love in general.

Danny has been having trouble hearing what I have to say lately. I’ve been wanting to tell him what’s been happening lately, but things seem to get sidetracked. He’s got a lot on his plate, of course. I hear he’s going to the AIDS play that one of his students wrote/is participating in this weekend.

Dreams… sensuous, violent, gentle, pastoral, ethereal, it’s all something. In the subconscious while your unconscious… free falling through your imagination. Funny what your mind touches when the tethers are removed. It’s sometimes betrayed by the limits of its own potential. I’m happy that I don’t hallucinate… or if I do, that I can work with them.

7037 – Don't get the shrimp if you want a kiss goodnight.

December!

Eek… that means Christmas & New Year’s is on the way… so fast!

Someone was shooting off bright bottle rockets and other fireworks at the riverfront last night. That was a nice surprise.

I think Mercedes Lackey’s writing is pretty weak, but I’m enjoying this piece she wrote called “The Last Straw”, where she rails against some of the more lunatic fringers in science fiction fandom. (or SCAers, or pagans, or whatever… ) Not all of ’em, mostly the people with boundary issues and reality issues. (via tdj, by way of queenmabwords)

Brother called. It makes me physically sick.
