The Master criminal… A Gingerbread Boy?

FDLE’s Computer Crime Center (FC3) with the assistance of the Tallahassee Police Department capped a monthlong investigation with the arrest of Jonathan Stettler, 25, of Tallahassee on Nov. 22. Stettler, a state employee, was charged with one count of computer pornography.

The investigation was initiated after the Green Cove Springs Police Department received a tip. Working from this tip, an undercover FDLE agent posing as the father of a 14-year-old boy communicated online with Stettler who expressed a desire to sexually exploit the child. Three weeks ago, Stettler was followed to a local hotel where he expected to meet the father and son. Stettler left the location, however, prior to making contact with the undercover agent.

Two weeks ago, Stettler began communicating again with the undercover agent who at this time was posing as a different 14-year-old boy. Once again, Stettler indicated a desire to personally meet and sexually exploit the boy.

After communicating several times with the undercover agent, Stettler agreed to meet who he thought was the 14-year-old boy on Monday afternoon at an apartment complex on Tharpe Street. Following his arrival, Stettler was taken into custody.

FDLE, the Tallahassee Police Department and the Green Cove Springs Police Department are all members of the North Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. This task force is one of 45 federally funded task forces nationwide created solely to investigate Internet crimes against children that include the online sexual exploitation of children and child pornography.

“This is another example of why parents should take time to discuss Internet safety with their children,” said Special Agent Bob Breeden of FDLE’s Computer Crime Center. “Many parents have no idea who their children are communicating with online. Predators are using the Internet now to communicate with young people, often over a several month period, to win their trust and convince them to meet face to face often with tragic results.”

Seventeen people have been arrested as agents dismantled two well-known Central Florida heroin trafficking organizations. The arrests were part of Operation Moto Soto, a joint investigative effort with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Heroin Task Force.

The organizations had been operating in Central Florida for a number of years and had a combined control of an estimated 25 percent of the street level heroin distribution in the east Orange County area. The rings distributed more than two kilos of heroin per month, enough for approximately 20,000 doses of the drug.

More than 40 agents representing numerous local, state, and federal agencies apprehended 18 defendants, including all of the top figures in the organizations. Additionally, more than $100,000 in assets was seized during the operation and is pending forfeiture.

Operation Moto Soto included the cooperation of agents with the DEA, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, and FDLE.

I tell you, dear journal, that the more I think things are, the less so they become. I thought that there was a firm majority in one of those camps.

Walkabout yesterday started as a dud, but ended on a high note.

Dragon’s lair, picked up a pair of Pirates of the Spanish Main game decks. (we never got around to opening them… good for next time.)

Dan and I went to the Seminole Casino… booooring. I totally fail to catch the appeal of Texas hold ’em or electronic slot machines… we ate food that was better suited to a food court, and tried to people-watch.. yawny yawn yawn..

Afterwards, we went out to the pool, which had a nifty sort of “yosimite” looking water slide, but nothing really camera worthy.

A bit disappointed, Dan and I headed to a local watering hole to just chit-chat… that ended things on a higher note.

Dan headed out at about 4:30, to drop me off and then take the Mrs. to their regular Saturday night dance date.

I decided that sitting around the house was sort of blah, so I relaunched into the city to pick up some dinner and continue to people watch… Interesting night. I got to talking to some folks along the waterfront and I think I may’ve made a new pal or two. Thank goodness for crowded tables… I was sitting solo, and the place was full, so hooray for sharing! We exchanged cards… let’s see if I get a call or not. Heck, I might’ve recruited some folks to help with the org… if not, I had a nice night of pleasant conversation, anyhow.

Rewatching the Incredibles as a screener this morning… the music is really quite good. I didn’t notice that the first time. Also, Frozone wears Hai Karate.

Bro called me from a pay phone this morning… told me he was doing ok, but he sounded a bit stupefied. Apparently he no longer has his cell phone.

Many strangers visiting and mystery old-timers visiting lately. It’s sort of nice to see… Not sure what’s setting it off, but I hope it continues. The artist of the graffiti I posted on my journal actually found the pictures! (His is the blue bit to the left of the tree here, and possibly the rest. compare to his stuff in this entry.) LJ really is a small microcosm, even with 5 million journals out there. I love been so “googleable”.

Urge for walkabout has returned, after revisiting my summer sojourn to Miami. Saturday after coming off of call, I’m going to go picture taking again, if the weather and mood is right.
