Thanks to for reminding me of this quote from Judge Dredd –

Robot: β€œEat recycled food, for a happier, healthier life. Be kind and peaceful to each other, eat recycled food. Recycled food – it’s good for the environment, and ok for you.”

Wacky miss cleo soundboard prank call.

I’ve officially drained the pantry of all green veggies. Tomorrow, before work I must get more, or settle on delivery food and girl scout cookies and starch for supper. *Oh the horror*. I also want some ice cream.

The stoppage in my ear has lessened, but there’s still a hint of it there, just enough to qualify as pesky. I stood on my head, and it helped a bit, but between the blood rushing to my skull and Newton’s subsonic mind-control purrs and at the time upside-down nosie-nuzzles, it was only a partial victory.

Wow.

Outstanding sleeps last night. Sweet dreams, comfort in my little cocoon, pleasant thoughts. I got some very comfortable time in.

Went for walkies this morning, and it started getting a wee bit hot by the time I headed home. I got a phone call from the brother right as I was coming in (he hung up, but I dialed back… hooray for caller ID!) and we gabbed for a while, made some plans to get together during my vacation next week. As I type this, I’m playing fetch with a “barrel full of monkeys” monkey by throwing it and having Newt retrieve it. Perfect size for him to tote around. I’m going to hop into the shower shortly, and go to market to stock up again. I’m getting really excited about the coming time off… only 5 more working days to go.

I got one of the Christmas presents I sent off back in the mail today. The package looks like it went through the wringer and back…I guess it has been… I sent it overnight on 12/17, and it has little “attempted delivery” stamps on it from 12/19, 12/20, and 1/10. I suppose it’s my fault for not waiving the signature, but I don’t think it’d have fit in the PO box. I’ll just resend it off again when I lob some other goodies North. I’m just happy I wasn’t sending anything perishable. (I’d wager cookies’d have been crushed and stale.) Silly PO.

Well, I saw Fellowship.

Probably the best live fantasy movie I’ve ever seen. (Not saying a lot, if you consider Hawk the Slayer or Krull as examples of excellence in the genre).

It had some very good points going for it…fantastic sets (The Shire and Argonath, especially), great effects, and it does get the basic story across. I think that the hobbits were portrayed well, as were the humans and wizards. However… I do take some umbrage from a few things. The Elves were rather stick-up-the-butty. Gimli and his ilk were very flat, and poorly acted. Lots of mugging at the camera with oversized face shots, and the plot / character rewrites. Color me a purist if you want, but I don’t quite get why they amplified some roles and minimised and removed others. (aside from time constraints…and maybe to give Liv more screen-time. Elrond? I wonder what’s going to happen when Eowyn shows up next movie) Also, for some reason the world seemed dirtier, somehow. I didn’t get the darker vibe from the books, but don’t mind that interpretation. I missed Tom and Goldberry, but knew they weren’t going to be there,so I was ready for it. The guy they got to play Bilbo was a good choice, and not one I would’ve picked. I think he did a fine job. The forced perspective and cgi is really well done, too. (Size changes are quite clean, and seamless). Good acting on behalf of Gandalf and Frodo.

I may be getting older, but a 3-hour movie is loooong. I felt myself getting a little fidgety the last 30 minutes or so…I think the movie would’ve worked better as a mini-series, maybe 6 or 9 hours each book? Either-or, I’d have been more comfy watching in jammies, and with a pause-button handy.

Overall. I liked the movie, but felt a little unsatisfied. as far as movies in general go and one from a book, I’d give it a 6ish or so. for a fantasy movie, it’s an 8 or more. (and a standard for future fantasy films to live up to)
etc.

rocko and his poochieHey! Rocko’s Modern Life comes on Nick at 6:30 am, and Aaah! Real monsters is on now! πŸ™‚

So this is when all the good saturday morning cartoons come on! I was wondering where they went.

Also..

Happy Birthday !!!

I’m awake! Whoosh… slept soundly and strongly. Had some amazing dreams, involving myself and my sweetheart. Snuggly, comforting ones, I seem to recall lemon trees and a fireplace too?… semi-lucid, I felt quite comfortable with the susurration of her breathing next to me, along with the kitties and the ceiling fans. Sleep time was brief, but of high quality… I took a shower upon waking, before even noting the earliness fo the hour.

I guess this is making up for the long ol’ sleeps I had yesterday… I woke up thirsty. I wonder if it’s a side effect of the tea? Too much salt in din-din?

Newt’s a good boy…I woke with him sleeping by my leg, and he’s curled up at my freshly washed feet now, playing right slipper. No tear tonight, and he went on his regular rowdy run yesterday rather late. hm.

I feel her in my pulse. Wonderment.

Newtie was a good boy at work today, save for taking a nip at someone who static-shocked his little pink nose while he slept. Note to self, get treats off to sweetie. (Note to sweetie.. send off your treats, and check the box! πŸ™‚ )

Good eats for supper… a pot of green tea, a package of oriental flavor ramen, some peas with them little pearl onions, and the last of my frozen spinach.

Guess who’s going out to a showing of a particular 3 hour long fantasy movie (That doesn’t star Tom Bombadil, or his sweet lady Goldberry), tomorrow?

If you guessed Scotto, You’re Right!

It’s evil and insidious. It’s corrupting our youth. It’s making a mockery of family-friendly sports. It’s “skate porn“, and the Olympics are banning it. Geez-o-pete, some people need lives, or hobbies, or just legitimate causes to worry about. Isn’t there a war on somewhere, or a recession, or a political official choking on a pretzel or something, we’re getting bent about this?

Time for me to curl up, and nestle in, and get some rest.

are trephi- and trepanation the same thing?

Well, I made it into work ok, no walkies this morning, but Newt’s at work with me.

we can't let you do thatYou know, I’m a little peeved at folks that don’t take better care of pets. There’s a progression a person can take if they want to see how responsible they can be. Fish are mighty easy. Make sure they get fed, and the water’s clean. Cats, do that and give them love, and attention, keep the box clean, brush ’em here and there, take ’em to the vet. Even more so for folks with dogs, plus the regular workout and room to roam. If you can’t do that, don’t get an animal friend. It’s worse than not being fair, it’s cruel.

People who buy “accessory animals” make me very angry… Black cats for halloween, chicks for easter, dalmations or owls because they’re in movies. Those are the same people that will let the critter go in a month when they realise that the thing that they bought requires care. Something alive is more than an exuse to show off, it’s something you can pour love into, cherish, and get love back in return from. A friend. If you can’t handle a higher maintenance friend, get a lower maintenance one. Sure, a fish isn’t as snuggly or interesting to most as a cat or dog. If you want to be lazy and snuggle, get a stuffed toy. Don’t make a living, loving thing suffer. If a fish is too hard… get a plant. Start with a cactus. Look deep (or not so deep) into yourself, and see what you’re honestly capable of. Don’t even get me started on “Accessory Babies” Thanks… Rant off.

The editorial cartoonists had a field day the other day. Any number of pretzels shaped like the Enron logo were chucked on editorial pages across the country…I’m glad Bateman abstained, and I respect him more for it. (and I dig him a lot, already.. smoking orange cats rule.)

Points to ponder:

He says he wasn’t out long, because his dogs hadn’t moved. As having been a dog owner I’ve got to wonder about the relationship when the dogs don’t budge when the master has a choking fit and rolls off the couch to pass out on the floor. Heck, when any human chokes and rolls off the couch.

I couldn’t believe the damage control by the White House doctors. “It’s because he is so healthy that he passed out from coughing on a pretzel. You see, his blood pressure is so healthily rosily low that he is *more* prone to that sort of thing.” That’s probably why Olympic athletes are dropping like flies, that low blood pressure and coughing thing.

I think the dogs are tranq’ed to the gills to be able to stay close to him, otherwise they would be barking at the non-human creature in their midst. And I think the passing out was the first symptom of his metamorphosis. I want a look under that Band-Aid, I don’t think it’s a rug burn.

You know, his dad had something removed from his nose, and he did that great upchuck into the Japanese Prime Minister’s lap. It was probably a hairball.
