Organization of American States – 35th meeting taking place right up the street from work. It’s going to play heck with traffic, and a lot of security hubbub as a result.  More info here.

I wonder if anything of significance will take place there? Some interesting milestones in the past. Lots of protesters out and about… Bush’ll be there about 11am today.

I’ve been learning a lot more of my South American history, with a focus on Colombia lately, for obvious reasons.  Previously, I knew more about Brazil, mostly due to Wilton, Sabrina and the dense Brazilian community down here.

Some Web logs in my neighborhood. This one is about 7 blocks from my place.

Another list of locals.

Monday morning meeting in a couple of hours. I try to find something positive in it, and it’s usually such a drag! Lots to do this week. – Quarterly hubbub again, already.

I’m glad to see a trend of burlesque making a comeback.

Yesterday’s wet dried up about 9am, and became a beautiful day! I hope that the run for the bus is dry this morning.

I forgot until just now that I look more like Silent Bob than Jesus when I have a full beard.

7416 – Friday. Club after work!

Self-Note re: Bro – nmha – info? 800-969-6642 xt 4312 9-5 m-f

Club tonight, at least for a little bit, barring call emergencies. Hopefully tomorrow with Danny, too.

Darth’s Daily Tragedies.

Celine Dion as Michael Jackson. Why do I like this?

quote [ …began as a normal traffic stop but took an ominous turn when the driver refused to get out of her SUV. It ended with a Boynton Beach Police officer hitting the 22-year-old woman twice with his Taser during her arrest. ]

disturbing video. I suspect she had a panic attack, because a taser doesn’t normally cause someone to flip out like that.. it hurts, for sure, but that stops right away.

She was warned four times, but preferred to hang out on the cell phone. Look at the other videos to see how the encounter started; he actually spoke to the woman a bit before taking her license and registration. When he returned and asked her to get out of the car, it was because she was driving with a suspended license and he intended to arrest her.

Old News, but I hadn’t seen the video. I used to work for the City of Boynton Beach (library), way back when.

Sunset was gorgeous last night. The rainclouds parted the sun came out, and turned the sky all sorts of beautiful warm colors before fading to purple.

Free doughnut day at Krispy Kreme. I’ll stop in if one crosses my path, but won’t make a special trip for one. Free ice cream, that’s I’d make a plan for.

Had the exceptionally pleasant experience of meeting firpo (quite an accomplished writer and artist out of California) on my journal yesterday in my comments section. It’s lovely when anonymous comment-folk pop in and say hello! Sometimes I think LJ is rather insular regarding non-lj types. I had the pleasure of seeing some of firpo’s work, and I quite liked what I saw — I may have to buy the book, too.

mzk called from New Mexico… has a UTI, and Mr. Tiggs nearly escaped on her, but aside from that, all is well. Will be in Cali by the weekend, I imagine.

Researchers from Stanford and Cornell have designed a camera sees behind objects. I remember that scene in Bladerunner when decker manipulated the photo to see one of the replicants around the corner of the apartment and I was cool but no way is that possible, well now it is.”

Weather Yesterday knocked me out. Made me wicked sleepy… After work, I had a long nap, and then watched Fog of War. It was quite fascinating, and I’d recommend it to anyone. First Time I’ve checked out the special features. Subtitles are in French, Spanish, Japanese, and Portuguese, and the additional scenes are of value.

Transcript and other info.

Krispy Kreme outlets will be giving away free doughnuts on 3 June 2005. (tomorrow)

OneWordMovie [Flash] asks you for any term and then produces a movie made from image search results of Google and others.

I enjoyed putting scottobear in there, since it’s unique enough to just flip though stuff related to my life, usually images posted in LJ. slowest speed is my preferred viewing method.

Gave platelets again last night. (pre-nap) Fortunately, the saline wasn’t as painful this time. I miss going at midday, when the nearby sub shop would bring over a free sammich instead of the center giving a packet of famous amos and a diet coke. Ah well, it’s charity, I’m not in it for the free lunch.

I’m already missing MP, and she’s not even gone yet. I’m a dope for getting too emotionally invested.

Newt loves it when I read to him at night. I don’t think it’s remotely strange to read him a bedtime story before we go to sleep. I like reading aloud, and he’s a good listener (when he’s not trying to sit on the book being read.)

I had a talk the other day with a coworker. They’re upset about the low level of respect that’s doled out in the office. My response is that what they think or say really doesn’t matter. If they don’t respect you, and you know you deserve respect… that’s them being ignorant. I don’t think it was very comforting.

Bro called me, still hasn’t gotten his new cell-phone, and wants me to help him get this fishing pole out of storage to better get some food from off the land. I think he’s got a telemarketing gig now, too. I’m hoping that I can get those for him shortly.

Lately, I’ve been going to bed hungry. I’d rather have a little pang than bother to get up an eat. I don’t know if that’s better or worse for my diet, but sloth has officially defeated gluttony in my deadly sin ratings.

No good comcast resolution, so I canceled my billing with them. I may get the “dish”, or I may just do without regular TV for a while. I can keep myself very entertained without cable, considering I only really watch shows that I torrent lately.

I’m a terrible one for philosophy, mainly because most of what’s been presented to me has too much sophistry for me to accept.

Moment of Lyric:

It is astonishing that a potential law could even reach the stage of being voted on in the USA that says if you witness or ‘become aware’ that neighbors or friends have broken the law with narcotics (which presumes you are a competent judge of that), you will be compelled by law to denounce them to the police. Failure to do so means prosecution and the threat of a two year sentence yourself if convicted of simply minding your own business. Even if you disagree with the drug laws, you will be threatened with prison if you do not actively help enforce them against other people.

7412 –

Raining like all the doggies in doggie heaven were let out into the yard at the same time.

First day of hurricane season, and it looks like Ma Nature is making the effort to drive a point home. I had food delivered for lunch today – BBQ tofu burger and fries. yummy, and they made a point of giving me lots of hot tater-sticks this time. (last go-round, I suspect the driver may’ve gotten munchies on the way over.)

any hurricane-related purchases for the next 2 weeks is tax-exempt, and home depot is doing an additional discount too. I’m due to pick up a new cooler, I think.

Water is coming down in huge, heavy drops, and the sky’s cloudy.

I’d love to be home curled up in a ball under a cool sheet with a nice nap now.

7410 – Walks on the beach are nicer with a cohort.

Lovely night. MP was a sweetheart. I got off work at 4, she didn’t start until 7, so we got a chance to hang for a few hours by the beach. I’m really glad that she’ll be back in 3-4 months. I’m getting a little attached, though I think I’ll know enough to ease up once she sets sail. I’ve tried long distance relationships, and they don’t seem to work out for me in the long run. (in the short run, they’re just fine, though.)

We got plantains, and we fed them to one another. (that’s as romantic as anyone will see in a public post of mine, I suspect)

At the club:

Tony the Bartender, meh.
Chuck the barback, blah.
Miyah, Bartender / Waitstaff in training: Awesome.
Steve of all trades: Nice guy
Gil – Day Manager – *great guy*
Phil – Night manager – Nice guy
Fred – What if George Hamilton and Andre the Giant Had a Love-child. Whitest teeth in the known universe.
MP – Woo!
Parish – sharky
Diane – Sweet as pie, likes white russians (the drink) a lot

Seldom are people as deep as they might appear to me. I suspect the same goes for the shallows, but sometimes, it’s very easy to believe otherwise.

Aside from “the Grouch”, I can’t recall having met an Oscar that wasn’t bald or balding.

Intel quietly adds DRM to new chips

Getting into Santana — Santana: Legacy Edition. Very keen. He’s in concert tomorrow night, but I’m not up for the journey to and from AAArena in Miami on a work night.

Nice things about yesterday:

  • MONDAY! DAY OFF!
  • Had my hair braided by MP, who was terribly affectionate.
  • Redeemed my Free Lunch! Yum. I’m a freak, who got a big ol’ fruit platter and french fries.
  • Had my full-beard admired and got my lap sat on by MP, as well.
  • Was told that I have a standing invite to visit Columbia and stay with MP while she’s down there. (Not that I could really go, but the offer is sweet, and sincere.)
  • Many hugs and kisses. She quizzed me about a few things in Spanish, and every time I got one right, I got a kiss. There’s some incentive! I’m pretty good at rolling my R’s now, too.

Not as great things :

  • I tried a Sake Martini. *shudder*. I just don’t like most hard Liquor. Rum punches are generally the exception. Apparently This was made with Waka-Sake, a pre-mixed vodka/sake nasty.
  • Mzk blew off for parts west without really answering my calls or following up on some plans we had. Annoying, but not unexpected.
  • MP is off to Columbia in a week. Humbug. I’ll make every effort to see more of her before she goes… not sure if that’s setting myself up for self-torture or not. I do know that I’ll enjoy myself while she’s here.
  • MP is still a little jealous/territorial about me around Em. That’s flattering but unquieting at the same time.

Random MP factoid – birthday is Aug 10 (Leo) – Chinese zodiac –Fire Horse (I’m an Aquarius and an Earth Monkey)

Miyah is doing a great Job as Mzk’s replacement, and Melissa is a very good replacement for Marissa.

All the barstaff are very kind to me, and I can’t buy a Diet Coke… the’y ll keep my filled up on fountain stuff. I still tip well, to be nice, though.

DJ Shir Kan and Party Ben make some fun mash-ups.

Gorillaz vs. Cake – “Never Feel Good” is a fun little ditty, especially if you’re familiar with the sources.

Rywalt is right. All of the characters in Lost are in Zork. The whole show is one giant text adventure game.

I wonder what permanent changes my life will make in the grand scheme of things. Have Taught anyone anything? Implemented some behavior that will continue to make a difference?

I’d like to have some way of looking at a person, and getting a “residual effect” analysis on them. How much goodwill have they passed along? Where did it go from there?

Maybe little glowing white streaks or lines connecting to others…. like chain lightening. I imagine some people would be utterly blotted out by a dazzling nimbus of positivity. Some old schoolteacher, maybe. I’d like to run that sort of analysis on myself… just to see how much I’ve contributed to the lives of my friends.

Newt and I would have a big ol’ tendril or two going back and forth between us, I’m sure.

Even a Santa-style list would be nice. Flip through, looking at names, seeing who you remembered touching in some way, and seeing where that same energy splintered off to other folks.

Ask a fish head anything you want to. They won’t answer, they can’t talk.
