6964 – PSA – Halloween Safety Tips

KNOW THE RULES. . .SAFETY TIPS FOR HALLOWEEN

1. Do not allow a child to go “Trick or Treating” alone. Be sure older children TAKE A FRIEND and an ADULT accompanies young children.

2. Be certain to accompany young children to the door of every house they approach.

3. Be certain that parents are familiar with every house and all people from which the children receive treats.

4. Children should be cautioned that they should NOT enter any home without prior permission from their parents.

5. Children should be cautioned not to approach any vehicle, occupied or not, unless they know the owner and are accompanied by a parent.

6. Make sure that all children carry a glow stick or wear reflective clothing.

7. When using facial masks, make sure that children can see and breathe properly and easily.

8. All costumes and masks should be clearly marked as flame resistant.

9. Children should be warned to NEVER approach any house that is not well lit and does not have a porch or “outside” light on.

10. Children should be cautioned to remember any suspicious incidents and report them to their parents and/or the proper official.

11. Children should be cautioned to run away from people who try to trick them with special treats.

12. Children should be instructed to scream and make a scene if anyone tries to grab them or force them, in any way, to go with them.

13. Parents should inspect all treats and dispose of anything that seems to have been tampered with, has been opened, or is not wrapped.

14. A good alternative to “Trick or Treating” is for parents to organize parties at home, in schools, or in community centers.

ADP and Rhode Island are at odds. If things continue as they are now, I will likely be back on call a few more nights week, sometime soon.

Getting a lot of anony-discussion in my comments section about the weatherman-pedophile, despite the screening which usually scares folks off. I wonder if they’ve been reading my journal all along, or if I popped up on google, and I’m a forum of opportunity?

I’m looking forward to turning the clocks back, if only to get the illusion of extra sleep for a few days.

Having the sun up in the morning is nice too, but not really a requirement.

so… when did photobucket drop the free host amount from 100megs to 25 megs? yeesh. I’m glad I have my own site.

OCTOBER 27–A Florida man has been charged with attempting to run over controversial Republican congresswoman Katherine Harris with his Cadillac. According to the below Sarasota Police Department report, Barry Seltzer, 46, told cops that he was simply exercising his “political expression” when he drove his car at Harris and several supporters, who were campaigning last night at a Sarasota intersection. Seltzer allegedly drove up on a sidewalk and headed directly for Harris before swerving “at the last minute.” Harris told officers that “she was afraid for her life and could not move as the vehicle approached her,” according to the report. For his part, Seltzer–who’s a registered Democrat–told cops, “I intimidated them with the car. They were standing in the street.” He added, “I did not run them down, I scared them a little!” That explanation did not stop investigators from arresting Seltzer for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a felony. Harris, Florida’s former secretary of state, is best known for her role in the aftermath of the state’s disastrous 2000 presidential election.

6961 – Helmintophobia – Fear of being infested with worms

I wonder how Bunky the Owl is doing, and if he’s getting smoochies this season?

Dear Eckerd Drugs: Christmas stuff, before Halloween? C’mon. it’s still more than 2 MONTHS away. Mercy.

Dreamt the right side of my face was torn off by a rake fight last night. I had to get a prosthetic replacement, based off of the mirror image of my remaining side… I looked “wrong”. Everyone thought I looked like me, but was someone else. I had to shave my head, eyebrows and beard while the artificial skin grafted to the real stuff. I was happy that my eye wasn’t ruined in the accident, but for some reason everything looked black and white through that one.

Navy approves first ever Satanist

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/3948329.stm

The British Armed Forces has officially recognised its first registered Satanist, a newspaper reports. Naval technician Chris Cranmer, 24, has been allowed to register by the captain of HMS Cumberland, based at Devonport Naval Base in Plymouth.

The move will mean that he will now be allowed to perform Satanic rituals on board the vessel. Continue reading 6959 – Still no cannibalism, I think.

6957 – go-go gadget copter!

After doing some reading up, I’m going to pass on the Averetec 3500. It’s priced low for a reason… a lot of issues, techwise. It has a real “lemon” feel to it, after an in-depth analysis.

Maybe I won’t do a tablet, after all…it’d be fun, but a notebook is a lot more economical, and I don’t really need a touchscreen factor outside of my palmtop. All I really want is a simple workhorse that has wireless, a decent cd/dvd multi-drive, a long battery life, and a screen I wouldn’t mind looking at for a few hours at a throw.

Newt’s been very talkative all weekend… I spent almost all of Sunday just goofing with him. The little guy makes me very happy.

I didn’t know Alex Ross did political cartooning! Recent cover of the village voice.

I remember an old issue of Iron Man where he had roller skate boots. Single-wheel rollerblades, it seems! Iron man on rollerskates

Walkabout was nice.. I got some needed chores done, and eyeballed some notebooks, as lappie’s feeling his age. 256 meg is lappie’s max, and the OS is getting too fat, and the HD too small.

I may get myself an early Christmas present sometime in the next month or so. The Averatec 3500 is looking like a winner. I’d prefer the pen to be mounted in a silo, rather than just on the side of the screen, but that’s a trivial concern next to it being a tablet-notebook that’s under $1000 after rebate.

I’ll see how I feel in a week or two.

Do any new cars have that little triangular window in the door? Strange nostalgia, seeing one recently.

Best line I’ve heard lately…

“A SUV with an American flag on it is like a whore wearing a rosary.”

Random scotto factoid: Lately, when I say the word nice, is sounds to me like “noice”.

The friendy-meme. (revised a mite)

In the comments section of this post:

1. Tell me one thing you like about me.

2. Tell me two things you like about yourself.

Then…

3. Look through the comments. When you see someone you know, tell them three things you like about them.

4. Do this in your journal so I can tell you what I like about YOU. (or just ask, and I’ll tell you here.)

I think the idea of Galactus with a gold tooth, flashing gang signs, and going “East SIIIIIDEE” before taking a bite out of Earth is no worse than most of the comic book stuff I’ve seen lately.

I don’t think that I have a destiny. I do have a direction… I want to thrive while doing good work. I think the idea of “fate” is awful situation… who wants to be stuck on one track, no choice, trapped?

Random Scotto factoid: I am made of meat and blood, bone, teeth and hair. There’s some bacteria, dust mites and plant life, too. Electromagnetic impulses, sticky mucus, bright blue eyes and a titanium pin.

Saw about 10 minutes of Smallville last night… meh. Maybe it was an off night, but Clark and Lana seem to be less able to act than most of the co stars. Maybe they suffer from “Vader” syndrome… hired just by looks, not ability. It seems that the show relies on shining reflections off of people’s eyes, too.

Quote from the episode – “A man is measured by the quality of his friends.” If that’s the case, I’m in good shape, and my bro’s in a bit of trouble.

How’s the saying really go? Quality of his years? Maybe that’s more of an internal thing.

Lost was a lot better… but I don’t like 10,000 speed film or whatever. The “Gladiator/sports photography” look just doesn’t engage me.

TV-B-Gone [is] a new universal remote that turns off almost any television. The device, which looks like an automobile remote, has just one button. When activated, it spends over a minute flashing out 209 different codes to turn off televisions, the most popular brands first.”

The flash multi-user magnetic refrigerator letters app is fascinating. I’ve noticed that I can set off a wave of behaviors, just by grouping certain letters or colors together. people will flock to assist in the grouping, as well as “spoilers” who try to mess up patterns. (not to mention the dueling curse words, name spellers, at times, too.) it can be fun just to watch the flock behavior and not even fool with it. An oracle might even see words of the future unfold, if there was a lot of “LOL” and “FAP” in it. and who could ask for more than that?

Saw Episode 3 of Lost… (The boar hunt… or the first one after the pilot.) It looks pretty dang good so far. I’m looking forward to tonights episode, and seeing the downloaded pilot and episode four, as well.
