Extra special thoughts for those I care about, and thanks to everyone who has acted as a caregiver and nurtured a living thing.

I’m sort of fascinated by the subject of this community – atlfanghost, a little graffiti ghost that’s been painted all over Atlanta. This entry showcases a large number of them, with alt-tags on most of the pictures noting locations.

Much more interesting, and legally dangerous than my own city’s blue bikes. I wonder where the pink ones went? The Yellow Shoes are all but gone, too. Someone made a collection of abandoned bikes in New York, too.

The current televised poker trend is more boring than televised golf or fishing, in my book.

Had a nice time co-heroing with dcl yesterday… I think Sammy and whims would get along nicely with him. After logging out, I got a 114 meg update… “through the looking glass” a future chunk of the game. One nice new feature is the ability to tweak your costume post creation now… and of course, I like the addition of instanced outdoor missions. I already know a bit about the new addition.. parallel earths, etc. I dig that the game is growing and evolving with regularity.

My journal is the only hit for Mr Chan’s Chinatown Almond Cookies. That’s a pity, because they’re mighty tasty… I haven’t had ’em since that entry.

Happy Birthday, Juliabee!

VNC for the palm. Amazing, wonderful. Like having PCanywhere from my palmtop to both my work and home computers, via the palm. If I wanted to, I could play City of heroes remotely, from *$, if I wanted to, now. Insanity. I’ve already used it to logon and update virus defs on my company web server from home.

It’s about as multi-platform as can be… check out the home page. Ah, and the source is available. got to love GPL.

Note, if you’re doing it via a router… port forwarding is your friend.

6722 – work update – what makes it worthwhile

Just got this in a letter –

In April you helped us on a case involving a serial rapist in Columbus, Ohio and Pomona, California. I am happy to tell you that we arrested him last week. We had 11 rapes that were related by DNA matches and 12 that were related by MO. Last Monday, through DNA, we finally got a name. The SWAT Team spent the day looking for him and arrested him after a short foot chase.

My Deputy Chief held a live news conference to notify the community and to thank all involved. I know you probably didn’t hear it but, he thanked you and your company for your great cooperation.

I would also like to thank you for your support. Through the cooperation of police and the community a very dangerous man is behind bars for the rest of his life. He has admitted to almost 60 rapes. Some of which the police were not aware had occurred. He has also admitted to hundreds of burglaries.

Good… I’m glad they finally caught the guy. I hope that if he’s guilty (and it surely seems that he is) that they nail him as hard as the law will permit.

Hmm.. it looks like my email rattles around the ether for up to 45 minutes before landing locally. I wonder if there’s a way to fix that?

Upside, the new host spam-filters all those virus attachments before they get to my sorting spot, now.

Regarding the whole “what do you do with a drunken sailor” song.

As far as I understand, ‘Captain’s Daughter’ was a tool of discipline, usually either a lash or something similar. to “kiss the captain’s daughter” (for light shipboard transgressions) was a light beating, while “put to bed with the captain’s daughter” would be a beating until the sailor passed out from the pain.

(Related, if you’re kissing the gunner’s daughter, it means that you’re being bent over the cannon for a flogging.)

Other misc – A Cat O’ nine tails had nine lashes because superstition had it that a flogging by a trinity of trinities would be more sacred. The whip consisted of a handle made of rope about 3 1/2 inches thick in circumference & about 18 inches in length. At the end are fastened 9 tails made of log line with at least 3 knots on each tail. “Flogged around the fleet”, a man was lashed in a long boat & rowed to each ship in the harbor where he’d receive 6 lashes per ship as all hands witnessed. The cat was aways put in a red bag to disguise the bloodstains… also giving new meaning of worry when “the cat’s out of the bag”

Also, the term “poop deck” makes me laugh.

“Arr, Where be the Cap’n?” “He’s right there, on the poop!”

I wonder what Danger Turtle is up to these days?

Hmm.. audioblogger no-likey the lj linking. I can can get the sound file, but the image no longer transmits over lj.. .same goes for direct linking to my photoblog images… the best I can do is link to the blogspot entry, now.

Brother is hanging with Mark. (One of the people he swore on a stack of bibles he’d never talk to again… he claims it was for a jump start for his truck… I don’t care if he had two broken legs.) Brother is an Idiot. Brother will end up in jail or worse. I knew that, dear journal, but it sucks to get confirmation. Dumbass. I discussed it coolly with him, and he says that he doesn’t want to talk to anyone that doesn’t trust him. That’s fine, I can use a break of a day or two.

Father’s day coming up… I don’t know many pops these days, but the ones I do know are pretty keen.

I’m in the mood to watch some old Ray Harryhausen movies this weekend.
