7800 – leeches, leeches, leeches!

Sometimes, I feel very reclusive. I like the idea of retiring to a cave. A place with a fire, a wall to draw on, and a personal store of food by an underground spring full of fresh water. Maybe an opening at the far end where the sun can get in, but not so close that rain gets everything.

Perhaps an oceanside opening, too, and a comfortable area to curl up with the Newt-cub.

Only the sound of dripping water from distant stalactites, and maybe torches flickering, leaving a little smudge on the wall where it burns a bit too close.

If there is at least one person in your life whom you consider a close friend, and whom you would not have met without the internet, post this sentence in your journal.

Actually, I have some friends that I networked to via a net-pal, and the net-pals themselves is gone.

Age of Empires III is out and about… may be my Christmas prezzie to myself. It looks gorgeous… and I imagine the gameplay will be up to the usual high standards.

More thoughts about Wallace & Gromit… They didn’t have a bunch of science fiction fans called “the Inventive Cheese-eaters” or whatnot (though it does have it’s own fans, certainly), and I’m sure the movie will do just fine on it’s opening weekend. Fans Serenity could learn a bit from that sort of cinematic Social Darwinism… Good movies will do just fine, with or without some cult-like fan base. I really rather think the name “Browncoats” is just a smidgen too close to “Brown shirts”, too. I suspect that the Browncoats didn’t do much to get people to go see the movie.. other science fiction fans were going to check it out, because they’d already heard of it, one way or another… I figure they were preaching to the choir.

Wallace and Gromit did well, I’m sure, and it’ll surprise me if it doesn’t have better opening numbers than Serenity did.

That said, RT has W&G at – 95%… that’s a pretty fantastic rating. I know it’ll be something people will want to watch on video every Halloween with Great Pumpkin and Night of the Living Dead. I can’t say that about Nightmare before Christmas. (the closest similar popular movie I can think of)

vs. Serenity at – 81%, which is still pretty respectable, considering that most fans of the show really weren’t crazy about it… (and most non-fans that I know also didn’t dig it). I guess the Joss formula of the 80 lb super-girl is still pretty marketable. Will people want to watch it in 5 years? I imagine it’ll end up on UPN as part of the recycled Sunday sci-fi movie run, along with Ghostbusters II, because the better and more popular movies will be too expensive to syndicate. (Like Ghostbusters the first)

On a tangent – some favorite Halloween movies – Usually, I like a light opener (comedy or classic) and then actual horror after.

  • It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
  • Ghostbusters
  • The Mummy (Both the Karloff original, and the Brendan Fraser vehicle)
  • Young Frankenstein
  • Night of the Living Dead
  • Alien
  • The Shining
  • The Fly (Vincent Price)
  • The Thing (Newer one) – I like to Follow up with Big Trouble in Little China
  • Evil Dead
  • Poltergeist
  • Hocus Pocus
  • Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein
  • Beetlejuice
  • The Exorcist

Just of the top of my skull.

Mostly peaceful Sunday, thank goodness. Bro asking me about CDs and DVDs for the new portable player that he “acquired”. He still hasn’t given me my old DVDs back yet, and I told him that. I may have a burned copy of some old cartoons and the like for him, but I don’t know if giving them to him is a kindness, or condoning his behavior. I’ll have to reflect on it some more.

That reminds me, I have to get postage and mail out those other DVDs.

Humpty-hump. The week is going by both swiftly and slowly in turns.

I’ve been using my spoiler highlighter a lot lately.

Got Season 2, Episode 12 of JLU. Divided We Fall, Lots of good moments – “Begone”, etc. Worst moment, integrating 3-d cgi models into the show… it’s not needed and is pointlessly distracting. The last episode of the season, unless they have a puff piece one-shot for #13. Vimoh got lucky… no cliffhanger after all. 12 episodes rather than last season’s 13?

Spoilers: Nice use of how Brainiac was just a green Lex Luthor, really. Good Psychological Warfare using the Justice Lords. Awesome use of the speed force with Wally. Groovy Proof of purpose at the end, and The change of JLU from being an army in an ivory tower to a more approachable crew. Embassies. Wide open for a JLI season 3. I liked that they fell back on the classic League crew to sew up the end, and Green Arrow’s speech was solid.

A better Breakdown about Bibleman than I have time to write.

Or just watch the preview trailers on this page. Cringe-worthy, when you can say that ElectraWoman and DynaGirl has better dialog, and a kinder message. (and cuter people in spandex.)

Actually, If you must watch one preview, watch the opening Credits for ElectraWoman and DynaGirl. Frank was a lucky man. Tarantulas! Rattlesnakes! Tigers! Sonic Blasts destroying snifters of brandy! Scary Rock-and-roll villains with a green afro! (His name was Glitter Rock.)

ElectraWoman and DynaGirl fighting off evil deeds.
Each works for a magazine, hiding the life she leads.

ElectraWoman and DynaGirl summoned to Electra-base by the electracoms they wear.
Lori and Judy dare to face any criminal anywhere.

ElectraWoman and DynaGirl !

Man, I had a huge crush on Judy. (as long as she stayed away form that Metamorphosis Formula #5.)

I won’t be attending the Bibleman show… but maybe I’ll go check out what sort of crowd it collects.

I’ve been really sleepy these last two weeks. Not sure what’s up with that.. physically tired. Summertime blues? Usually I have a good charge to my batteries… maybe it’s the rain.

Portable rotary phone, just add your sim card. Now that’s cool.

Bear Days
On
Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29, 2005

Miami Metrozoo celebrates Bear Awareness Week on “Bear Days” Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29. Zoos across the country, libraries, nature centers, and other wildlife agencies recognize the integral role of bears in nature and advocate bear education in May.

FREE Stuffed Bear to the first 500 kids through the gate each day*

The Metrozoo celebration will include additional Keeper Talks and enrichment activities especially prepared for the three kinds of bears in the zoo on both days.

  • 1:30 p.m. – Sun Bear: See them use their long tongues to extract honey out of holes in tubes!
  • 2:00 p.m. – Himalayan Black Bear: Watch him hunt and catch large fish caught here in the zoo lakes!
  • 2:30 p.m. – Sloth Bear: Observe him as he tears open a termite mound (made of paper maché) to eat wax worms, meal worms and crickets!

*Wild Republic Itsy Bitsies bear (For children 12 and under, while supplies last).

MP called me out of the blue yesterday afternoon just to say hi. That was brief, but nice.

Land Of the Dead! (thanks for the point, missv!)

MMm. I loves me some Zombies. I hope I can get some HuFu dumplings to snack on in time to see it.

Moment of Lyric:

And you get in your car and drive real far.
And you drive all night and then you see a light.
And it comes right down and it lands on the ground.
And out comes the man from Mars.
And you try to run but he’s got a gun.
And he shoots you dead and he eats your head.

GrayPumpkin is now up to episode 8 of the new Dr Who, and his opinions mirror my own pretty closely. So Far, I think the first three are still my favorites of the season.

More than a little peeved that my tech on call last night (ADP) lacked the skill or interest in calling tech support over a computer issue last night. If she’s not careful, her hours will drop to one night a week, or less. For whatever reason, she lacks the ability to follow procedures written down for her.

Creepy thing about Kal-El . Robot Doubles

The moon is full tonight and very nice lookin’!
We will also be able to see the International Space Station with the naked eye between now and mid-August. Neat.

Oh, the humanity… bear-lynching… there ought to be a law, I say!

From Yahoo! News:

Blind German psychic Ulf Buck feels the buttocks of a client during a session in his study room in the northern German village of Meldorf near Hamburg July 15, 2002. Clairvoyant Buck claims that people’s backsides display lines like those on the palm of the hand, which can be read to reveal much about their character and destiny.

No. Really. There’s a picture and everything. I’m surprised it’s not in the “most viewed” yet, but it will be. It is number one in most emailed.

Cave Bear :
A very tall bear with a massive head. It was vegetarian and did not live in caves, but hibernated there. It became extinct approximately 10,000 years ago.

I talked to my brother last night, aroud 11pm, midnight…. they got a windows cd, but still have a defective sound card. next weekend I’ll bring one of the spares up and set him tright… he really want to play hellcab, and some of the other games. I know how annoying it can be to work with a hobbled machine. Note to self, send off mail for assorted mailfolks today. I have treats for a few people to drop at the post office.

Sakes, Monday again. Makes sense…the weekend was good, but didn’t seem too short. Well, best be off on my daily routine. Going walkies, then a nice shower before dressing for work. see you kids later on.

Why Bears?

From Ghost dog….

Bears

A solitary animal, adaptable to all climates, terrain, and food. In groups will share food in abundance, and is a formidable adversary despite a lack of predatory instincts. If he or his group is injured or threatened, he will fight and kill with great ferocity, but is generally a peaceful, docile creature. In ancient cultures, bears were considered equals to men.

been out of commission.

Nuts. Gone too long w/out an update…

I don’t remember what I’ve been eating.

The Sleep study tonight was a bust, going again next Sunday night.

bah. I’m so irritated about that, I’m not even going to go into it. suffice to say, insurance companies, HMO, incompetents and boobs all need to stay out of my way in the next week.

April’s leaving at 3:30 PM today. Mixed feelings, but mostly happy about it. Not going to work, going to see her off at the station.

Considering heavily getting another cat. ‘Franklin’ a brown kitty, for Newton.

too many journal entries to read tonight, and I’m not in a mood to contribute positively, so I’ll leave ’em alone.

let’s see. *good things* that happened this weekend.

Saw the Cell with Robb. Spiffy visuals. Saw Godzilla with April. Whee giant rubber monster. I loved it… 17th of 23 Godzilla movies I’ve seen. (24 if you count the American broderick atrocity) Met a new gaming group that will have the hunters in it, and no evil f’ing shadowfist games to eliminate Rp. Josh seems nice, if enthusiastic. Got a bunch of video tapes for cheep at the store, Wizards, Silent Running, a boy and his dog, they live, and alien nation for $20 total. groovy.
