7962 – quickie

GeotargetAte dinner at RS’s house, met her boyfriend and kidlets. I got along well with them all, perhaps too well. I think RS got a little jealous of the fact that I could interact well with them when she’s had feelings of running away from all of it. She told me that I was not, under any circumstances, to become better friends with her bf than with her. I can understand her fear, but doubt that it’ll happen.

A lot of weirdness in the air at the office. I think most of it is from them trying to get RS to manage me, but none of them are giving her any solid direction, just criticism. I want to be helpful and do good at my gig, so asking me to do things shouldn’t be difficult, should it? Big Kahuna is slowing down… maybe her age is finally catching up with her?

Nice moment of chat with the weezle and she brightened my spirits considerably. Thanks!

7611 –

Last Summer Day with Danny today.. we’re probably going to do a little play of pirates, hang out and have some supper. He told me yesterday that he hasn’t been on the internet for about a month or more. That’d be like me not *reading* anything for a month or more… unheard of.

Had a lovely time chitty-chattin’ with weez & sedef last night, and I’m delighted that I might get another chance to see ’em sometime soon! Quite a pair of sweeties they are! (Even if they are threatening to get me a bunch of Strawberry shortcake branded stuff!)

Taken – Yikes, scary monster cartoon!

Cuteness overload mousie.

COPS / nifty interfaces / Creatures.

Had a nice long gab with the Gray Pumpkin this afternoon about this, that and the other thing. Lots of fun chitty-chatting about an assortment of stuff, from gaming to kung fu to zombies to political stances. I’m amazed that I was the baby boy of the gaming group… he’s 39, Danny’s 40, Doug’s got to be in his mid-late 40s. I’m only as old as the girls of that gang. Gray and I have the most similar mental frequency of the lot, still. I’m surprised how much of those gaming times I remember, and almost as shocked how much I’d forgotten.

MIT’s Media Lab is a crucible of experimentation and innovation for students of media technology. Their work ranges from the amusingly baroque to the intriguingly clever. A couple of grad students there have developed the Audiopad, an interesting system for performing electronic music. Rather than explain further, let me just encourage you to go look at the video demonstration in either Quicktime (20MB) or Windows Media (11MB) formats. Then go read the project’s web page. I’d hate to see what’d happen if Newt got at those control-elements.

Last night was one of the more entertaining episodes of COPS… (Very little beats the one-legged cop chasing a guy down, however.)

Essentially, a haggard-looking woman with scary wrinkles flags down the cop. She’s really upset because she claims to have been robbed. After a couple of questions from the cop, the woman finally says “I just gave that woman over there $20 to buy crack cocaine, and she hasn’t given me anything!” She points across the street at another lady.

She says this right to the cop. The cop is sort of flabbergasted, and makes her repeat it. “Ok. You paid that woman $20 for crack cocaine, and she took your money and didn’t give you anything. And you want me to go over there and… All right. Ok. ”

The cop eventually shrugs and decides to follow up on it. He walks across the street, where the other woman is waiting.

The cop says, “That woman over there says she just gave you $20 to buy crack, and you didn’t give her anything.”

The second woman says “No sir, officer, I do NOT sell crack. I am a prostitute.

Also got into Animal Planet’s “The Future is Wild”, though I view it a speculative fiction rather than sound science… mainly because we don’t have a lot of the variables in place to make even something that I’d consider an educated guess about what life on Earth will be like 100 million years from now. I did rather like the tunneling birds and land-squid, however. The art and movement of the new beasties is really amazing.

Random Scotto factoid – In grade school, I hated diagramming sentences. *Hated it* Ms Mickey, the teacher at the time was as cool as could be, but when I was obliged to do that on paper… or worse, go up to the black board, I could feel the pickle-puss hang on my face. At the time, it struck me as some of the most pointless stuff I’d ever been obliged to do, and though I recognize the usefulness now, I still really don’t like doing it. I wonder if it’ll ever get telegraphed? Some little kid will ask me for help some day, I’ll see what it is, throw off a “oh, that stuff again…” and give that munchkin an irrational dislike for it, too?

Exciting, sexual, emotional dreams last night… Very erotic and pleasant…I woke up a-tingle, with my sweetheart’s name on my lips. I wrote more about it in my dream log… I’ll transcribe it for private reading later today.

Somehow or another, the computer turned off last night… very odd. was there a power outage? I didn’t hear the ups chirp.

I’m vain enough to notice that I’m getting more gray in my beard… but not so vain that I mind. I must’ve been on testosterone overdrive this weekend, because my face furred up fast…it was like mowing the yard after a week of summer rain.

I’ve currently got no real complaints… I could certainly bitch about a few things, but nothing so major that it bears talking about. I think that’s a good place to be. I like to count my blessings regularly. Those that I love know it. (I feel that Newt understands, even though English isn’t his strong suit.)

Scotto factoid time. Is it? Sure, why not?

I go through cycles of sound. Some periods, I need to have something going in the background… soft music, television, the whir of the A/C… If I can hear myself breathing, then it becomes a distraction.

Other times, I want it so quiet that I can hear the blood pump in my body while at rest. I like to lay awake at night, with my ear pressed against a bicep, or Newton’s side, and just listening to things happening inside…the creak of a tendon, squish of blood being pushed through a vein, or in Newton’s case… hear his tummy digesting a midnight snack or purring like a lawnmower. It’s also fun to hear him eat.

When I smell ozone, I think that I can fly. I have no idea why that is, but I feel simultaneously energized and relaxed by the stuff.

Before Newton, there were times when I’d gone an entire weekend without speaking a single word aloud. I wonder if I was trapped on a desert island on my own, how long my silence would rule. I think I’d end up “singing in the shower”, if there was a warm waterfall nearby, but might not speak much outside of that.

I’m really impressed by Charlotte Church lately… she’s got an amazing talent.

Time for me to move… see you later, dear journal!

freaky forehead bone-looking sand dollar.it amazes me how many people thought that Newt and I have synched digestive cycles, and about the sand dollar thing.

there’s a chirpy bird outside that’s driving Newt to distraction.. he’s peering out the window as I type, trying to figure a way to get to it.

Random American history factoid – in 1585, the first English colonists arrived in Roanoke Island, Virginia. (Now North Carolina). by 1590, all of the settlers had disappeared. The word “CROATOAN” is found carved into a tree.

Talked with my sweetheart, and now we’re both off to do chores! Mmm.. she makes the day complete. 🙂 Got to call the bro, and see if he needs any laundry done, while I’m at it.

until later, dear journal!

I’m a little perturbed with my chatty proggies lately. I wonder if it means all of their servers are getting too big.

AIM – been pretty good, lately. falls down now and then, but gets right back up again.

Yahoo – Weird stuff. folks visible to others but not me, or vice versa. (makes creating a nice group chat testy)

ICQ – the most pesky offender. I was sending messages back and forth to my sweetheart yesterday, when they suddenly stopped. it turns out we kept sending, but neither of us were receiving! not even in our history, just one ways. I did, however see when she logged off to drive home.

I’ve grown very dependant on gabbing with my sweetheart during the day. Pesky when our ‘telephone’ is spotty, but I guess I can’t complain too much… it’s free to use.

Thank goodness for e-mail. 🙂

simple substitution cipher. maybe better than the lodd idea?

GrifterMike: Is that you, Scott?
BigLug23: yeah
GrifterMike: We blew it. They killed Deakins.
BigLug23: read about the suicide?
GrifterMike: I knew Professor Deakins pretty well. Suicide my ass.
BigLug23: why did they kill him? He wanted nothing to do with this.
GrifterMike: That photo you gave me had a packet sniffer attached to it.
BigLug23: They tracked him that way?
GrifterMike: Just listen. They traced the photo back to Deakins. Then they killed him.
BigLug23: Who’s next?
GrifterMike: This is getting completely out of hand.
GrifterMike: I don’t know what to do anymore.
BigLug23: what about shinehed?
GrifterMike: I hope Shintaro gets back soon so we can just get the hell out of here.
BigLug23: Have you heard from him?
GrifterMike: We should have been more cautious.
GrifterMike: I’m sorry.
BigLug23: Is everyone else ok?
GrifterMike: Auto Response: I am currently away from my computer.
