if you have a aim name… (or more than one…) you’ve got 20 megs of hosty-data available to you. it’s at http://mywebpage.netscape.com/ [update, a year later – netscape no longer hosts remotely to LJ)

Example from my biglug account

http://scottobear.com/lj/archives/100602/nessie.gif
(fixed after netscape opted to not remote host here)

I still think the browser is stinky and behind the times…. but this is a nice offering from aol. I prefer it to the landfill of CD’s they send me.

Another pic or two from my Newton-bot account, test

Ah, back, and ready for the weekend.

Groceries, including lots of goodies for Newt and comfort food for me.

New mask, more comfortable than the old mask.. price was reasonable, $84. I’ll submit the bill to my insurance company (har-dee-har- har) and see if I can get any compensation for it. Even if I don’t, it’s well worth it.

Playing paper wad fetch with the birthday boy… he loves his presents. Paper wads galore, and two fresh cardboard crates for him to play in, and gnaw on. He likes the stinky tuna treats, too. a happy boy indeed… he’s also quite digging the Publix bags. Where does he get all of his energy?

My CPAP mask finally broke for good last night, right as I put it on to go to bed. There wasn’t anything I could do about it, so I tucked in and went without. This morning, I have the good ol’ swollen uvula, but it’s not as bad as it might be, because I made a point of sleeping mostly on my side.

I need to see if Sur-Med is open today, and swing by to pick up a replacement…not in the mood to aggravate the situation any more.

In better news-

*Happy 3rd Birthday, Newt!*

The Birthday Boy!!

I love my little orange boy!

my MSN piccies are back! Only took a week or two… I wonder what the die-lemma was?

Well, off to get my mask, and a spare in case it happens again. Then to return and play Newtie-party games. Until later, dear journal!

I dreamt that I fought off two dogs chasing me on my bike to work. I did this by getting off of my bike, and using it lion-tamer style to keep them at bay while I tied ropes around them. I have no idea where the ropes came from.

From Matrix-

So a gasoline tanker falls off an elevated ramp in Miami and lands by the women’s jail, bursting into very big flames, but the weirder part is that firefighters have to dodge bullets while they fight the fire because it engulfed a bunch of jail guards’ cars that contained ammunition. Eeek.

Straight dope about Asian BO (or lack thereof) and Spicy food making you sweat.

Painful headache this afternoon. Migraine-level. Made me sick to my stomach, but the head-throb was the worst. I took some naproxin, and made it as dark as I could, then went to sleep. Newt welcomed the daytime stay, and snuggled on my neck. A good drug for what ailed me.
F-ing head! Not shown… The spike is white hot.

Woke up, mostly relieved, and scribbled my dream images down on the palm.

My dreams featured these two elements… I don’t remember much else about them. A Beekeeper at night, with a droopy moustache, and a crazy woman laughing in my ear.

"The honey is sweetest at midnight, friend. Steer clear of the smoke, and you'll be safe." Uh, what?Man... She was scary. Some sort of villain, to be sure.

I was so tired at work today… it was feeling like someone took a straw, stuck it into my vitality tank, and was siphoning it. I’m all groovy here, though. I think I may’ve gotten up too early this morn (6am). I didn’t have any food until 3pm, either. rethink that strategy tomorrow.

Brought home some cardboard boxes for Newtie to play with… he’s contentedly chomping on his crinkle-bug inside one now. The sounds of a happy cat in a make-shift habitrail. It’s a multi-story tube, with a hole in each one that he can fit through… though when he exits via the top, it gets kicked sideways.

It’s nice, being able to please him that easily… it makes me feel good, knowing that he’s so content and chipper.

Found a three-column template today that’s css, works on Netscape 4.x, and doesn’t use frames. Score! In English, that means I don’t have to deal with multiple pages of the same crappy design for each browser I’m supporting. Good news.

Time now for tofu in peanut sauce with mixed veggies.. over white rice. Home made. That’s right. yum!

grand theft, lies, vandalism, and Newton’s sonic boom. (to be ceaned up later, just get it out there

Danger the turtle, totally unrelated to the story at handAn eventful couple of days…I’ll work my way through it.

Thursday night, [gleaned via the video camera archives] : one of the bonbon spawn, her eldest, got a phone call…about 7:30 pm. While on the phone, he walks around the back of one of the primary machines, nodding his head, and observing where items are plugged into the back. For the next 15 minutes or so he walks back and forth, periodically looking right into the camera… a nervous look on his face. After his mom left, at about 8pm, we see him come out the side door and then hear the rear door open up a few moments later. A box is placed over the camera to black out anything from being seen. (Ooh… clever! I wonder what secret agent broke in and did that while he was out on a “smoke break”?) Anyhoo, “someone” then smacked the camera, and knocked it, supposedly aiming it up… what he didn’t realize is that the whole laser room was still in the field of vision… there was just less floor, and more roof. Something else that he didn’t know was that two minutes or less after pulling out the hardware key, all production on that machine ground to a stop, as the data was dammed up, forbidden to pass from servers to the Xerox printers. He calls tech support, and they walk him through a checklist of repair possibilities… but he doesn’t work with the computer at all, because he full well knows what caused the problem. He clocks out and goes home, since the machine will have to have Xerox come in and diagnose the “problem”. [End camera 1]

Cut to Friday morning, 6am, Xerox techs come in to evaluate the problem. It takes less than a minute to discover that the dongle is missing, and exactly *when* it was pulled out last night. The only two people working that evening; both of the bonbon spawn. Older “Thief” brother, and younger “Accomplice” brother. By checking the alarm and camera logs on all the doors and possible entrances.. Nobody came or went that wasn’t a child of Bonnie’s. 8:30 am, when the board members tart to arrive, they look at the security tapes and security logs mentioned above. The police were called, and Bonnie and her children were telephoned, and asked to come in. Morty, one of our guys that work in the computer bank in the front with Riker has a big mouth, called and told Bonnie what was up, soon afterwards.

10am, they all arrive, and Thief is pale white, and has the hardware key with him. He returns it, and says “no harm, no foul, right?”

Wrong. That piece of hardware comes with a $15,000 licensing fee. Taking it is grand theft. A felony good for about 15 years in the state of Florida. He also cost us printer and click time from 8pm to 6am during prime printing hours, unknown costs in paying people overtime, Xerox service, and catch-up .The police grilled The three of them almost all day yesterday. Aside from theft, there’s also a vandalism charge.

The Accomplice came through, totally straight with what he knew. I do believe that he had no idea something of that magnitude was going on.

Thief went through a couple of stories. “The system went down, and it was hanging off loosely. I pulled it off to look at it, and accidentally put it in my jeans and took it home. I returned it.. No harm done, right?” *BUZZ* wrong answer! The system didn’t go down until it was yanked out. It doesn’t hang loosely; it’s screwed in with a pair of thumb-bolts. Try again… let’s go to the videotape. And why exactly did you cover the camera up? Uh, I was just goofing around… I didn’t think anything would happen. “Goofing around, by covering up a security camera, and taking hardware off the system, causing it to crash? Sounds like a laugh riot.

He has a wife and a child at home. What kind of idiot throws away his life for swiping a piece of hardware worth $15k?

Right now, it’s unknown if accomplice and bonbon will have jobs on Monday. That has to go before the board. Thief is certainly going to be fired. The board is going to decide about pressing charges. I suspect that if he comes through with who called him, and told him to swipe that part, they’ll make a deal with him to catch either Big Bird or Ex-boss in a bigger suit. (Remember, Big bird is already in trouble for stealing a $4000 piece of equipment, and selling it to ex boss.).

If the big guys can get nailed, I don’t think they’ll have a problem with letting the thief off with just being fired, instead of going off to jail to be anally taken regularly by his cellmate.

We’ll see what Monday brings. Friday night, I tucked in early, worn out from all the Police hubbub and all the noise.
trip to the vet 09/14/02 - Newt got spooked by a dog barking at him, and he rowr'd so loudly that the dog ran away.
This morning, I took Newt to the Vet for his 6 month bordatello immunization and fecal test. I was smart, and went tootsie-roll collecting, and tossed it into a Ziploc bag for them to investigate, so he didn’t need the lubricated bubble wand stuck in his bung. That’s one less stress to add to his list. The immunization consisted of a few drops put in his nose, rather than a shot….he didn’t mind that too much, but wasn’t fond of the vet rubbing his belly and bod for unusual lumps or tumors. (He’s looking good!) His weight is the same as it was six months ago, which is good.. Not getting too fat or too thin.

While standing in the front room, waiting for my ride, Newt in my arms, as sweet as can be…. in comes a guy with a mid-sized cocker spaniel. The thing is a spaz, and starts baking at Newt, loudly and excitedly, jumping about mid-waist height to me. The owner, an older lady was having trouble… she panicked a bit, probably because I told her to reel in her dog rather sharply but quietly. Newt puffs up in my arms, tail straight up and looking like it was electrified, and let out the loudest *RAWRAWRAUUUUUUUUUUUU* at the dog that I’ve ever heard. The dog whined sharply, tossed his tail between his legs and hid behind his owner, and began to cry like he’d been beaten with a two by four… The lady took him to a back room shortly thereafter. Dumb-bully dog. Newt continued to growl lowly until our ride arrived, a few minutes later.

A soon as we got outside the office, Newt relaxed, and got extra comfy in my arms for the ride home. Who knew he could get so fierce? Lesson… I’m quite confident that he could hold his own in a fight, or at least a chest-beating match.

After arriving home, I spent much time playing with the little banshee (who hasn’t so much as given a “mer?” since) on the bed, and he seems perfectly calm and collected.

notes : picture of Danger the turtle was drawn last night… Newt-attack mer was drawn today during laundry.

Going into work early… maybe I can bug out early, too. I have an urge to propel myself rapidly through the day today, for some reason. There’s a desire to burn off the daylight.

Still suffering from a slight loss of balance, but no longer groggy. I’m going to take it carefully, if swiftly. No bicycle today, all bus. I’ll take a cab home tonight. I’m feeling a little susceptible to collision today.

Pretty day today. Calm winds, pretty warm, but not hot. I can feel a little pressure in my back, but not in a bad way. Thunderstorms are coming tonight.

Have a good day, dear journal.

An orange cat… I’m not naming names… decided that it’d be fun to get up to snuggle and play extra early this morning.

He’s all tuckered out now, but I’m not ready to go back to bed yet… and it’s too early to go outside for walkies… still rather dark. Brain’s not up to really reading or writing too much at the moment.

Five hours until my ebay auction closes… nobody else has bid on it, but it’s usually not until the last moment that the sneaky-boogers jump in and start sniffing around.

Mild dizziness this morn. Not sure if it’s the groggies from an early rise, or if I’m getting symptoms of Dave’s cold. No other flu-elements yet, so we’ll see what happens. The ol’ noggin doesn’t have all the right marbles in the proper holes at the moment yet.

Well, off to the morning routine. See you in a bit, dear journal.

Raisin cinnamon swirl oatmeal is yummy! It is indeed a tasty way to start the day. (I do confess, I made 2 packets) … 1/5 of my calories of the day, give or take.

I’m shopping for a good multi-vitamin. I’m guessing Walgreen’s or Eckerd’s will have one, but I’m going to research it a bit. (Anyone reading want to offer a recommendation?)

Two hundred years ago, the human race got, on average, 30cm taller. Now, on average, the human race is obese. A researcher from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine claims that the obesity pandemic is a new fundamental shift in the shape of human bodies, brought on by the same kinds of technological changes that made us taller.

“Pandemic” obesity was the result of an abundance of high-energy, aggressively marketed foods, and sedentary lifestyles induced by television and computers, said Professor Prentice.

I forgot to mention on Friday… People at work are telling me how to mourn. “Drive with your lights on. Wear Black, Wear Red White and Blue”… etc etc etc.

I imagine your heart’s in the right place, but stop, ok? I don’t need to hear “Scotto wore green and khaki on the big day! Is he supporting terrorists? Does he hate America? ”

No. I’m just not making it a friggin’ Saint Patrick’s Day, or the Fourth of July. I don’ t dress up for December 7, or Memorial Day, either. I’ll wear what’s in my closet and clean that day, and hopefully it’ll match.

I save colors for festive holidays. Halloween… Christmas… Valentines Day. You’ll see me in costume dress then, or at least colors. I do feel bad about the tragedy of lost life and our lost security… but I’m not going to buy a “Memorial black armband” to wear on Sept 11 every year from now on. Come on…I’m not going to not make this a hallmark moment. I hope that I just have a few office busybodies, and that this isn’t a national annoyance.

On a lighter note – Forget the sheep jokes. Scottish men are taking to a new form of kinkiness: sex with traffic cones. Yes, these nubile, rubber beauties with their come-hither looks and wanton, orange attire are all the rage in Scotland for a midday shag.

With that, I’m off to work. Until later, dear journal.

No nightgown under my clothes, by gum. 😉

sleestaks… in my mind… stay away from my oatmeal!

Met the greatest earthquake ever known
High on the rapids
It struck their tiny raft
And plunged them down a thousand feet below

Enik, the smart one...

Ok, Enik. You may have some, you’re nice to Newt, and remembered all of the words. Oatmeal for everyone!!

Apples and Cinnamon oatmeal.

Oh, thank you, creator of such stuff…Quakers, magical apple dehydrators that make the apple chunks all poofy when reheated in water…, everyone involved. good in my tummy.

The Silver Age Marvel Comics Index – tons of pretty covers from the ’50s-’70s. Fun and useless activity alert: if you are in your thirties, go here and view all the Marvel covers from the month you were born. Here’s mine.

We want oatmeal too! HisSsSsSSSSSS…..
we want oatmeal too!

Ok… get in line. Who wants Cinnamon-spice? Guys… hang up your crossbows… not at the table!

Well, looks like they’ve gone in for another look. Danny’s got to wait again on this dig.

I’m back, got some pretzels, baby carrots and dill dip, diet coke, Gatorade, and dropped off the mail that needed to go out today.

I’m looking at my heroclix, and thinking that I could custom do a few different figures… it seems a bit rough, but I think that kingpin will be the simplest one to start with for myself…because he’s bald and broad. I may modify a Hercules, too, just to have a kilt. 🙂 Depending on what outfit my sweetie picks, I’m guessing jean grey, or scarlet witch will do the trick for her. I feel that thug will be a good one for my brother, again, because he’s bald, and easy to make a long-haired male figure from. quicksilver is closer to his body-type, though… maybe I’ll use that one, or hydra operative.… I’m going to use the operative for Danny, too… shave off the gun, and paint it more domestic.

For Newton and Blackie.. I’m going to have to get some o-scale cats, or make ’em out of femo. still debating giving Blackie a little mouse or bird on his stand. (Newt’ll have a teeny version of his stuffed tick toy)

Or… I may say the heck with it, after painting the first one.

Some cool props, here.… I really like the pizza boxes… a good prop for the bro. 🙂 and Chinese takeout, for me.

I was delighted to see the Halloween promotions already in full swing… thoughts of cooler nights, happy children, costumes and candy…. that brings a smile to my face.

Autumn’s on it’s way… less than a month to go!
