Social isolation day #1007

Wearher – 39F, and now drizzling rain

Creatures seen – handful of squirrels, a possum, no birds at all, no humans!

As I trudged through the swamp today, I could feel the cold seeping into my bones. The region was thick with fog, making it difficult to see more than a few feet in front of me. I wrapped my scarf tighter around my neck and pulled my jacket closer, trying to keep out the chill.

The ground beneath my feet was spongy and unstable, making it a challenge to keep my balance. I could hear the squelching of my shoes as I walked, the sound echoing through the stillness of the air.

As I walked deeper into the bog, I began to see strange shapes emerging from the fog. The trees here were twisted and gnarled, their branches reaching out like grasping hands. I could see patches of moss and ferns, their green hues standing out against the dull gray of the air.

Suddenly, I heard a rustling in the underbrush. I froze, unsure of what was lurking in the shadows. Then, a creature emerged. It was just a possum, its coat dappled with moisture. It stared at me for a moment, before disappearing back into the mist.

I continued on, my heart pounding with excitement. The beauty of the area can be truly breathtaking, and I was grateful to be able to experience it. As I walked, I spotted a patch of purple heather, its delicate flowers standing out against the damp ground.

Eventually, I came to a small pond, its surface still and calm. I knelt down and dipped my hand in the water, feeling the icy coldness of it. I cupped some water in my palm, watching as it slowly dripped back into the pond.
As I stood up, I realized that the fog had begun to lift. The sun was breaking through the clouds, casting a golden light over the glade. I smiled, feeling the warmth of the sun on my face.

Pearl, oh Pearl, our tabby cat
So full of energy, seldom sitting flat
She darts and she runs, she jumps and she plays
Her rambunctious spirit bright as the day
Her fur is a swirl of black, white and grey
With spots that shimmer in the light of the day
Her tail is a blur as she chases a mouse
Her paws awhirl as she dashes about the house
Her purrs are loud, her meows are shrill
She’s a ball of fire, seldom stands still
But when the night falls and the day is done
Pearl curls up close, a nuzzling ball of fun
She may be wild, but she’s loved all the same
Our Pearl, our girl with a heart of flame.

Also, the apartment stock footage in “Publish or Perish” as having appeared in Rockford (as Beth’s place) and I’d like to think these two things were happening in units next to each other at the same time.

A pity we never got a crossover.

Hospital set in Columbo’s “Forgotten Lady” (1975) and The Rockford Files’s “In Hazard” (1976). I don’t know if the set was built for either show, but Rockford will make recurring use of it through the next couple of seasons.

Note the sconces in the Columbo cap? Reused from the previous hospital set in “A Deadly State of Mind”

For the kids at home…

Columbo is a television series that aired on NBC from 1971 to 1978. The show starred Peter Falk as the titular character, a detective with the Los Angeles Police Department. Columbo is a brilliant detective, but he appears to be somewhat disheveled and absent-minded. He often uses his apparent forgetfulness and lack of polish to lull his suspects into a false sense of security, allowing him to outsmart them and solve the crime.

The Rockford Files is a television series that aired on NBC from 1974 to 1980. The show starred James Garner as the titular character, a private investigator who lives in a trailer in Malibu, California. Rockford is a former convict who has turned his life around and now uses his skills as a detective to solve cases. Unlike Columbo, Rockford is tough and street-smart, and he often uses his con-man wits and physical abilities to get out of difficult situations.

Both Columbo and the Rockford Files are classic detective series, but they differ in their approach to solving crimes. Columbo is a more cerebral detective, using his intellect and cunning to outsmart his suspects. In contrast, Rockford is a more physical and intuitive detective, relying on his strength and instincts to solve cases.

The power outage was a sudden and unforeseen event, causing a sense of unease to wash over the town. Darkness descended upon the streets as the flickering glow of streetlights blinked out and the hum of electricity was silenced. In the homes and businesses of the hamlet, the mechanical whir of appliances and the steady glow of screens were suddenly stilled. An eerie silence filled the air, punctuated only by the distant sound of waves crashing on the bay and the far-off cries of panicked citizens.

As the people of the city struggled to adjust to the sudden loss of electricity, they were gripped by a feeling of dread. Many whispered of ancient and eldritch forces at work, conjured forth from the depths of time and space to bring about this blackout. Some spoke of dark and malevolent entities, lurking in the shadows and feeding off of the fear and confusion of the populace.

The true cause of the blackout remained a mystery, but for those who experienced it, the fear and uncertainty lingered long after the lights came back on. It was as if, in that moment of darkness, something had awoken within the city, something ancient and terrible that threatened to engulf them all.

A tabby cat, with stripes of ebon hue
And eyes that gleam like liquid pools of green
With paws that softly pad upon the floor
And tail that flicks with graceful, feline flair
A creature sleek and lithe, with joyous mien
And purrs that lull and comfort all who hear.

Some doggerel about Pearl

I used to be a big fan of LiveJournal back in the day. For those who aren’t familiar, LiveJournal was a popular blogging platform that was especially popular among young people in the early 2000s. I remember spending hours on the site, reading through other people’s posts and commenting on them.

At the time, LiveJournal was a great way to connect with other like-minded people from all over the world. I made some great friends through the platform, and we would often comment on each other’s posts and engage in thoughtful discussions.

One of the things I liked most about LiveJournal was the ability to customize your profile with different skins and layouts. I spent a lot of time tinkering with the design of my own page, trying to make it as unique and interesting as possible.

Eventually, however, LiveJournal started to lose its popularity as other social media platforms, like Facebook and Twitter, became more dominant. I eventually stopped using the site and moved on to other things, though my WordPress site autodumps posts there, and I return occasionally to see what folks still lingering there are up to.

I will always have fond memories of my time using LiveJournal. It was a great way to connect with other people and express myself creatively. For anyone who was a fan of the platform back in the day, I’m sure you can relate to the nostalgia I’m feeling right now.
