Nah, not too complicated. The difference is you have about 41% more access to the surface area of the interior of the sandwich. Assuming a square piece of bread(1×1) and equal height sandwiches, a diagonal cut gives you 1*root2 or 1.41 length of the cut vs a cut length of 1 in the horizontal cut.
