ok… I’ve got a new A/C unit. Let’s hope that it has a repair duty cycle a little more reasonable than once a month. Spent some lovely time this afternoon with my sweetie, gabbin’ about vampires, alligators, the O’Hairs, school religion, murder…and more. I love that head she’s got on her shoulders… (and the rest of her is equally adored.)

Hmm.. internet at work is down, if I left at three (next available transport) I could be there at four thirty…, if I foobar, five. Is it worth the trip in? I’ll have to shave… right now my jaw whiskers are long enough to be considered a beard, though my goatee is much more full.

I’ll call and see if they need me at all. I dropped , at least for a time, because someone prefers not to put giant images behind a lj-cut. Maybe I’ll go back to it later, probably, I won’t. I have so many other lovely image journals that I read now… edbook, photosphere, , all have fascinating images with courteous members (or single artists)… not to mention the occasional photography and art that peppers sporadically elsewhere. (like juliabee and meredith)

While I wait for a callback, Iโ€™m going to relax.

p.s. you can download audio books with peer-to-peer sharing too… it’s not just first run movies and music! I’m grabbing the audio to Ann Rice’s Memnoch, the Devil and a few others.

I need to be on the northbound tri-rail by 2:16.

Hm…after putting the in , we got another 10 or so members. I’m still delighted that it grew to well over 750 members by word of mouth.

Reflecting on the new Peter Gabriel album… Even though he doesn’t seem to be shooting for the high notes, he’s got the different voices going again from his more old school stuff. Much more sinister sounding, and it goes with his Anton LaVey look pretty darn well.

Random Scotto factoid – In the 80s, I found Mary Gross far more attractive than Rebecca De Mornay. I still hold that belief. Until this very moment, I didn’t know that she was the Sister to Michael Gross.

Avast, ye shivering swabs! It be time to speak like a buccaneer!

Red Dog, the pir8 guy returns on this day of days!Remember folks… it’s talk like a pirate day! (thanks to for reminding me!

taken this morn... time stamp will change, as will the image on the link page. Newtcam is on, if you’d like to spy on him. An example –
Arr…I must’ve dreamt of time travel last night, because I think I took off three days’ worth of beard, shaving this morn…I tell ya true.

I took me body and me booty outside… Mike’s van (a scurvy tub, if ever I saw one!) was parked right outside of me captain’s quarters, and he had the radio turned all the way up… I’m glad I wasn’t sleepin’… I asked him politely to turn off the radio if he’s going to park there…(I’d have been much less polite if I was driven from slumber.) I’d have skewered him with me cutlass.

Just went through and weeded out about five folks on my reading list who’ve deleted… I was wondering why I’d not seen anything by them lately!

The Sweetie figure is pretty much done, I think. I hope the tattoo fades a trifle to a more “henna-ring” color. I’ll post it here, after she’s seen it first. A humble tribute to the flame-haired lass I love so well.

Next up? Sweetie, revision II, or maybe Danny. (Probably Danny, because it’ll be simpler, and I’d like to give him a present sometime soon.)

May your day be filled with Buxom Wenches, Grog, Rum, and Orange Cats pretending to be Parrots!

When he was nearly thirteen my brother Jem got his arm badly broken…

I want to just goof off today.

I’d like to get to work, have someone offer to take me out to a long lunch near my house, and have Kev call mid-payment of the check, and have them drop me at home… so I can return on Thursday, refreshed.

Erica in accounting (She’s been at the company for five years, from 16 to 21…) gave her week’s notice on Monday.

Another victim of the hubbub here at work, and not wanting to work with the Finn too closely. More’s the pity… ol’ Rico is an excellent worker, and a good person. We keep swapping out wheat for more chaff… I wonder who’s next to call it a day?

Taken out for potato pancakes. That’d be nice.

Next week or so is birthday week… Bro and Kev.. This weekend it’s going to be prezzie time. Bro’s easy, Kev… I’ll have to roam the software and toy store aisles, and see what calls my name. Also sweetheart’s Lj-versary.

Newt’s Birthday is first week next month, and sweetheart’s is the second week. They’re both easy to shop for too. Then I’ll be set.

Beat the Geeks on Ben Stein’s Money… I suspect the geeks’ show is dying, to have to guest star elsewhere. I don’t like the movie geek “Marc”…he gives me a weird vibe. The TV and music geeks look like they could carry a pleasant conversation though.

Sending more healing vibes to my sweetheart… she’s still sicky, :(…. *huggo-lovies-mendo-fixits* it seems to be going around, too. Everyone should be drinking lots of fluids, and resting!

Enough dawdling… time for me to head out. I think I’m going to spoil myself a little today, and get a big, hot lunch of something really good tasting, and probably not too good for my health.

Have a happy, dear journal.

Dork alert… Atari Adventure mod for quake. Holy moley, how cool is that?

If you’ve got the bandwidth and QuickTime, watch lots of robots… really lovely. Open it in another window and keep surfing while it loads, if you have to.

Sweet! edbook has put up a portfolio of his work… nice!

Friday the Thirteenth really is no big whoop to me. No worries. Nothing creepy or unexpected has happened yet…the normal aches, pains, smiles and joys that’ve been with me all week are still here.

Of the people at work I thought knew about world affairs, none knew who I was talking about when I referenced Idi Amin(Maybe one of the worst dictators since Hitler), Pol Pot and Papa / Baby Doc… I admit that it sometimes takes me a while to catch up with current events… but these guys are big time evil, and a major element in world history. When folks can kill in the hundreds of thousands or more and not be known…how does that work? Maybe it’s because I watched the news at home during the 70s and 80s, and it was current events? Looks like a job for a poll…

The Finn, Island Boy, Sappho and Kev…None had ever heard of any of ’em, save for Kev recognizing Idi Amin from an old SNL game show skit…but not knowing who he was.

On another note… I want to see the giant land squid and flying killer fish!

Random Scotto factoid – My aliases on trade wars back in the old BBS turn-based online wargames were – Rev Scotto, Tristan Thunyduway, Balder the Brave, and Boog the Ogre.

Sketches from the palm from the last day or two…I left the screen color on, instead of my usual forcing of black and white. Hover over for what was/is on my mind regarding them.

cow... Her name is Bingo, and she's much prettier in real life.Lunch on Wednesday! yum... Mimmo's makes good pizza. The Pod house! This is where pods live.... Newt planted the daisy. :)A loud-as-heck fire engine passed the bus on the way to work yesterday.... after having my ears split, it won WOD.

update- it’s over already – http://www.livejournal.com/talkread.bml?journal=ana&itemid=890241

Latest bit of LJ-hubbub ana is suffering as a result of this clause.. see her take on it here. The italics are mine.

Now, I imagine this is to somehow legally protect LJ from being accountable if a transaction between two people via the ad, both coming and going… and is *very* reasonable to keep people from spamming in the comments section of your journal, or community. I’m confident that it’ll be ironed out via brad and the gang…and that this’ll be a very minor bit of hubbub.

But if it isn’t… let’s extrapolate for a moment.

Take i for example (who first pointed this situation out to ldy, and who passed it on to me) he sells paintings here and there by showing them inside his journal. Why shouldn’t he? Heโ€™s making a buck, and not spamming other people…. from what I’ve seen, very many folks have been quite pleased with his talent and service. Why stop him from talking about his art in his journal, or linking to his site… or even making a sale? They have the blurb in place, in case someone does complain… is “We’re not responsible… he was violating terms of service” a safe enough legal defense?

How about me? I link to websites *all the frickin’ time*. That Crash Bonsai site sells stuff… will I get in trouble for “advertising” something that I think is cool?

Overall, though, my gut feeling that it’s a “tempest in a teapot”… and that the whole shebang will blow over in less than a week.

change of plans

I’m just going to read, snuggle with the kitty, and meditate. Not sleep.

Oh, forgot to mention… last night I was tech support Scotto… three different people chatted with me for the sole purpose of LJ aide… I never hear from them otherwise. Sort of rude, but I assisted them anyhow..and they were thankful for the help.

Hot diggety!

I got zoe‘s trivia cookies today!

She’s off count though… I got well over a dozen… closer to two! ๐Ÿ™‚ They arrived well packed, unsmooshed and uneaten. (I’m going to rectify the latter right now!) I’m going to share this newfound boon of chocolaty-quadrangle goodness with my brother. Thereโ€™s too much to hoard for myself, as much as I’d like to.

I’m back! He was *very* appreciative. ๐Ÿ™‚

We both did the head-bob victory dance and adjourned back to our respective abodes.

I emailed my ebay guy, and he told me that my stuff was put in the mail yesterday… so I should be seeing it tomorrow, or Monday at the latest.

There’s a really fascinating, enthralling article in The New York Times Magazine about the science of coincidence and conspiracy theories. Amazing reading, and written in a great page-turner style.

I WAS A STRANGE CHILD
there are no words to describe you.
except maybe: strange. unique. different.
what kind of child were you?

I cannot find the Monastery of Heaped Fragrance,
Miles up now into the clouds of the summit.
There is no footpath through the ancient woods.
Where did the bell sound,
Deep in the forest, deep in the mountain?
The voice of the torrent gulps over jagged stones;
Sunlight hardly warms the bluish pines.
As dusk deepens in these unfathomable mazes,
I practice meditation
To subdue the dragon of desire.

– Wang Wei (701-761)

Bear teeth… Maybe I’ll get a nice fossil, and make it into a necklace. ๐Ÿ™‚

has 712 members, as of this writing…what a hoot!

Time for beddy-bye. Until tomorrow, dear journal!

No dice on the recorder.. and my nearby comic shop is price-gouging for single figures… The other place was $1 yelow, $2 blue, $3 red… PPF had the same stuff for $2 yellow, $3.50 blue, $5 red.

fark that noise… I’ll just have danny pick some up for me at the cheaper zone.

juliabee put me on to a nifty idea, too… making custom ones! I’ve got more army men than I know what to do with…the click bases don’t look too difficult to replicate.

Another fun thing.. I was in Eckerd’s, and back to school sales are going.. protractors, index cards… all sorts of cool school supplies. They still make trapper keepers! I remember waaaay back in the halcyon days of my youth when they were introduced. Before them…. oh, the humanity… a stack of duo-tang folders, a different color for each class, each course written on the cover neatly in black felt tip. If they didn’t have internal pockets, you were hosed, and possibly doomed to lose information.

I couldn’t resist. I bought a Duo-tang folder. Orange. With internal pockets. It cost me $0.23…I think it’ll be my new Recorder music book… ๐Ÿ™‚ Now, I just have to pick up that recorder.
