Hm, no payment on my ad-links for the last month… I suppose I’ll take ’em down if I don’t see anything by the first week of September.

Heard from Magda last night and it was quite nice… but all too brief. She’s going to Costa Rica for a week or two, and then back to Colombia, and then back to Fort Lauderdale.

A pretty funny trailer for a hillbilly Kung-Fu zombie movie which does not yet exist, presumably only because Billy Bob Thorton has yet to get wind of it.

Abednego

Meaning: servant of Nego = Nebo.

This was the Chaldee name given to Azariah, one of Daniel’s three companions (Dan. 2:49). With Shadrach and Meshach, he was delivered from the burning fiery furnace (3:12-30).

Looked it up, after hearing a man name his dog that. Pretty nifty name.

Mostly peaceful Sunday, thank goodness. Bro asking me about CDs and DVDs for the new portable player that he “acquired”. He still hasn’t given me my old DVDs back yet, and I told him that. I may have a burned copy of some old cartoons and the like for him, but I don’t know if giving them to him is a kindness, or condoning his behavior. I’ll have to reflect on it some more.

That reminds me, I have to get postage and mail out those other DVDs.

BEF Office Bricolage Contest ResultThe Bolas are pretty inspired, as is the Micro-Claymore.

Hmm… Dave’s been off in the distance quite a bit in recent months. Life as a father of 2, I guess!

TV-B-Gone [is] a new universal remote that turns off almost any television. The device, which looks like an automobile remote, has just one button. When activated, it spends over a minute flashing out 209 different codes to turn off televisions, the most popular brands first.”

The flash multi-user magnetic refrigerator letters app is fascinating. I’ve noticed that I can set off a wave of behaviors, just by grouping certain letters or colors together. people will flock to assist in the grouping, as well as “spoilers” who try to mess up patterns. (not to mention the dueling curse words, name spellers, at times, too.) it can be fun just to watch the flock behavior and not even fool with it. An oracle might even see words of the future unfold, if there was a lot of “LOL” and “FAP” in it. and who could ask for more than that?

Saw Episode 3 of Lost… (The boar hunt… or the first one after the pilot.) It looks pretty dang good so far. I’m looking forward to tonights episode, and seeing the downloaded pilot and episode four, as well.

6939 – Templars!

Today being the October 13th, one could note the passing of the Templars:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knights_Templar#Ruin

“On October 13, 1307, what may have been all the Knights Templar in France were simultaneously arrested by agents of Philip the Fair (Philippe le Bel), to be later tortured into admitting heresy in the Order. (Some believe this act to be the origin of superstition regarding Friday the 13th.) ”

The more conspiracy minded might also note that a modern incarnation of the Templars:

Has a “Special Consultative Status” with the United Nations:

And that the American Priory has been active in the Balkans:

http://www.smotj.org/charities/index.html

In the related area of helping Christians at risk, the Priory of St. Norbert of Chicago has been active in a very-much “hands-on” endeavor in Kosovo. The Priory of St. Norbert is in the process of collecting medical supplies for shipment to clinics in Kosovo. One of their Knights is serving in Kosovo on active duty with NATO forces.”

And I note that the point of contact email address for the NATO Priory is from the US Selective Service Administration ( for those outside the US, these are the guys who administer the Draft )

Hell of a cover for the Order of St. Jerome.

Nice out, so I’m considering early-morning walkies before work.

Knowing how much I enjoy morning sleep, I suspect that my walks will end up in the evening.

Talked to Danny last night about unexplored areas of land on Earth. He thinks that pretty much every square mile of land has been physically touched by humans in some way or another, but I disagree.

I want to find a map or something of areas never touched.. Areas in Alaska, Africa, etc. Just to get an idea of what’s small pieces are left for explorers to uncover. I wonder.. there are some theories that say that 2-3 thousand years ago that the Congo was mostly grasslands.

Speaking of which – WASHINGTON (AP) — From lines scratched in ancient dirt to Medieval charts with drawings of monsters in unknown parts of the ocean to modern computer printouts, maps have served a vital role throughout human history.

Now, one of the nation’s most venerable mapmakers, the National Geographic Society, is updating its massive Atlas of the World. Continue reading 6932 – 2s-dee

6922 – Friday! only a 9 or so more hours until I can sleeeeep.

Ack. Kiwanis was a bit of a bust. Projector broke down, and the lunch was very carnivore friendly. (I got tho have some limp asparagus and blah rice.)

I return next week to try again, with a loaner projector from BCC… (ours won’t be fixed for a few weeks, if Sharp’s service center is consistent.)

Today should be more reasonable than others recently. I plan on enjoying a bit of the weekend at Viva Broward up the road. RC’s running the place so I should be able to step in, say hi, and hang out over a beer or two. If anyone’s in the area, swing by! It’ll be the first good walkabout I’ve had in awhile. Maybe I’ll be able to tote Dan to a movie or just hang out?

$100 shotgun fits in shirt pocket

The credit card-sized shotgun is a muzzle loader, meaning it doesn’t use shotgun shells. The user has to measure out some gunpowder, pour it in each barrel, drop seven BBs in each barrel, and tamp in a small wad of paper. A knob on one end serves as a safety, and two buttons set into a hole in the body are the electrical triggers. Each barrel fires with a loud pop. “This is no more deadly than a .22,” Teel said. “But the difference is you have multiple wounds, which means you’ll try to get away quicker, and it will cause more pain. … There will be more blood, which the cops will be able to see.”

Well, aside from a few power spikes that caused a reboot or seventeen, I seem to have come through the front end of the storm just fine. It’s mighty moist outside, but wind has settled way down.

Here’s some pictures of the empty streets around the Elbo Room yesterday (as opposed to the first day of the Hurricane season, which featured fembots.)
