6890 – Avast, me hearties!

The only accessory you need for Talk Like A Pirate Day, September 19. The site’s creator, Grant Henninger, says: “Let me present t’ you t’ iPatch! It really has no purpose, but it was a fun site t’ build. Hope people get a good harty-har-har out o’ it.”

Well, Re: Ghost in the Shell… I liked the Basset. both styles of animation were good, but the CGI and cel-stuff didn’t mesh well.. rather distracting, actually. Sammy really dug it, so I imagine it’s just a question of personal tastes. Site Meter

Danny and I had a nice time at riverwalk, had lunch at einsteins, a beer at the ugly toona saloona, and talked about this that and the other as we walked around… they’re relaying the brickwork on Tavern row. I wonder if doing that on a Saturday is the worst possible time for business?

With all the hurricanes and tropical storms lately, I’m surprised more people aren’t trying to find that dang butterfly.

6816 Morning, already?

Dang… Where do these Mondays keep coming from?Site Meter

I foresee more of the same sort of Monday shenanigans. Terribly long morning meeting, and then spend the rest of the day playing catch-up.

The opening crew is headed to Alabama for training next week, so it’ll be much lighter in that respect, next go-round.

Newt’s been in gabby-chatter mode quite a lot lately.I’m happy to give him all the attention he might like and probably more, though he like to be doted on for the most part.

It feels like my emotional gravity is out of whack. Parts of me are light, others dense, and drawn to the center of my being. Some sort of personal vibe version of solar flares.

30th anniversary of Nixon Resigning. I can think of a few presidents, both republican and democrat that probably should’ve stepped down in like fashion, since. People guilty of known criminal activity both prior and during office… and probably since then.

World Audit: ranks countries. Shows the U.S. as 9th in freedom, 12th in democracy. Interesting how Finland, the most democratic and thirdmost free on the page is also considered the most corrupt. How it’s measured.

According to Newsday, live video from the Olympics will be viewable online. However, ‘the footage will be highly restricted to protect lucrative broadcast contracts, which are sold by territory – $793 million paid by NBC alone. Web sites must employ technology to block viewers from outside their home countries, so U.S. Web surfers won’t benefit from the BBC’s live coverage. They’ll have to settle for highlights posted after NBC broadcasts, which are already largely tape-delayed.’

No Danny today, but probably Lunch on Saturday. Project #2 is coming to a close for me… a large Net-meeting with bigwigs first thing Wednesday morning to go over what I’ve cooked up for them so far. I’m hoping that they’ll be pleased.

Today’s Island Boy’s last day at my old gig… If corporate HR had been a little more responsive about his raise, they’d probably still have him. Ah well, I hope he’s happier at his new gig with Tuan. Saturday is Erica’s B’day.

Dan’s talking to a Mortgage broker about getting a new deal on his place, and his wife’s feeling the stresses of starting her own business. (I dare not mention the rule of “don’t expect a profit for at least 2 years” to her, or even Danny. It might dash their hopes even more.)

A few days ago I mentioned Orrin Hatch and what he said about illegal downloading. As it turns out, he’s one of them himself!

Awake and in the daylight now, some overflow remains…I’m going to keep and hold that seed of calm, and mentally try to get it to bloom over me today. Things at work have been a little pesky lately, and I carry thoughts of her as a touchstone to keep me happy and tranquil. for those that don’t care… a magical tunnel I drew on the palm on the way home.

trippy!

Avast, ye shivering swabs! It be time to speak like a buccaneer!

Red Dog, the pir8 guy returns on this day of days!Remember folks… it’s talk like a pirate day! (thanks to for reminding me!

taken this morn... time stamp will change, as will the image on the link page. Newtcam is on, if you’d like to spy on him. An example –
Arr…I must’ve dreamt of time travel last night, because I think I took off three days’ worth of beard, shaving this morn…I tell ya true.

I took me body and me booty outside… Mike’s van (a scurvy tub, if ever I saw one!) was parked right outside of me captain’s quarters, and he had the radio turned all the way up… I’m glad I wasn’t sleepin’… I asked him politely to turn off the radio if he’s going to park there…(I’d have been much less polite if I was driven from slumber.) I’d have skewered him with me cutlass.

Just went through and weeded out about five folks on my reading list who’ve deleted… I was wondering why I’d not seen anything by them lately!

The Sweetie figure is pretty much done, I think. I hope the tattoo fades a trifle to a more “henna-ring” color. I’ll post it here, after she’s seen it first. A humble tribute to the flame-haired lass I love so well.

Next up? Sweetie, revision II, or maybe Danny. (Probably Danny, because it’ll be simpler, and I’d like to give him a present sometime soon.)

May your day be filled with Buxom Wenches, Grog, Rum, and Orange Cats pretending to be Parrots!

psychic flower... it can read your mind.. But it won't. It respects your privacy. He's not really an amputee... I just didn't draw his arms and legs. bus driverRed Dog, the pir8 guy! Let me see if I have Riker's Kazaa letter...Riker at work got an email today, regarding his Internet account, Kazaa, and Goldmember… nope, not cc:ed to me yet. I’ll post it tomorrow.

The long and the short of it is that they saw him with Goldmember shared on his computer, and they’re going to press charges for illegal distro of copy written goods. Sent such a scare, that kazaa is verboten at our workplace. Ah well… I’ll still do it from home. I just grab mst3k and cartoons these days, anyhow. Yikes! I still have to burn some CDs, typing of which.

Dream last night of a neighbor coming over, complaining about my reading lamp being to bright, and burning his eyes. I was nice, and apologized, even though I couldn’t see where the light would get out.

Bought a fresh batch of Newt food this evening…and got myself some junk. chocolate-cookie crunch tofutti. yumitty-yum! Strange to see an ingredient “cookies”.

I think I’m ready for a little snack. Nigh nigh, dear journal!

The moon is full tonight and very nice lookin’!
We will also be able to see the International Space Station with the naked eye between now and mid-August. Neat.

Oh, the humanity… bear-lynching… there ought to be a law, I say!

From Yahoo! News:

Blind German psychic Ulf Buck feels the buttocks of a client during a session in his study room in the northern German village of Meldorf near Hamburg July 15, 2002. Clairvoyant Buck claims that people’s backsides display lines like those on the palm of the hand, which can be read to reveal much about their character and destiny.

No. Really. There’s a picture and everything. I’m surprised it’s not in the “most viewed” yet, but it will be. It is number one in most emailed.

Q: How much is pirate corn?
A: A buccaneer.

Arrr!

An eyepatch. Good lord, how much more stereotypically villainous is this going to get? Next thing we’ll be seeing footage of women tied to train tracks while the Al Qaeda twirl their moustaches.

sam n max as pirates

Think Maritime Piracy is a thing of the past? Think again! Piracy doesn’t just mean a bootleg copy of the latest cool software, or music.

Pirate attacks rose last year by 57% compared with 1999 figures and were nearly four and half times higher when compared with 1991 according to a report by the ICC’s International Maritime Bureau (IMB).

In its annual Piracy and Armed Robbery Against Ships report for 2000, the IMB – a division of the Paris-based International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) – reports a total of 469 attacks on ships either at sea, at anchor or in port.

The violence used in the attacks also rose to new levels, with 72 seafarers killed and 99 injured in 2000, up from 3 killed and 24 injured the previous year. The number of hostages taken halved to 202 seafarers. Ships were boarded in 307 instances and a total of eight ships were hijacked.

Me in my Laundry gear

Must do my chores… just lurking here to do a quick post, and procrastinate to see if my sweetie will pop up before I dash off to do laundry.

I had a wonderful night last night, all told… the mood was sensual, the company, delightful. I love a very special woman…I spent a little chunk of the night creating some stuff for her, from some custom scripting to things rather more romantic. [I wonder if this is visible outside of source? I love you, sweet moonflower!]

A clever way to hide things in plain sight. enclose them inside of less than/greater than signs. 🙂

You were licking your lips and your lipstick shining
I was dying just to ask for a taste
We were lying together in a silver lining
By the light of the moon

Not another moment to waste

[update-noon] Ok.. I’m off! see you kids later! But first, a pirate joke.

So this pirate walks into a bar with a steering wheel coming out of the front of his pants. The bartender says, “Hey, what’s up with that steering wheel?” The pirate replies, “Arr, it’s driving me nuts.”

And now… the evil news.

Use P2P, Go To Jail
=================================
In December 1999, David McOwen — a system administrator at DeKalb Tech, part of the Georgia state university system — installed a screensaver from Distributed.net on some of the computers at DeKalb. That was his mistake — but he never could have guessed how big a mistake that would turn out to be. As it turns out he will likely be arrested in the next few weeks on charges that have a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.
In fact, McOwen is now being criminally prosecuted for the “crime.” What crime?
The state claims that the Distributed.net client cost the state $415,951.49 in bandwidth charges. The cost of bandwidth, the state says, is 59 cents per second. If you do the math at this rate, you find that the DeKalb is paying $1,529,280 per month for bandwidth. The amount they’re seeking from McOwen is roughly a third of this cost.

Oregon Law Officers Cannot Tell A Lie
=================================
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — For nearly a year, the FBI and other law enforcement agencies have been handcuffed in Oregon, constrained from launching undercover operations as basic as sending an agent to buy drugs from a suspected dealer…
The reason is an Oregon Supreme Court ruling that all attorneys — prosecutors included — must abide by state ethics rules against the use of deceit.
Under Justice Department policy, undercover activities by federal agents must be approved by prosecutors in the U.S. attorney’s office. Since the Aug. 17 ruling, the U.S. attorney’s office in Portland has suspended some undercover operations and has not approved any new ones for fear of disciplinary action from the Oregon State Bar, which can disbar members.
The FBI said the cases hampered include an undercover operation against Russian mobsters, an investigation of adults who go into Internet chat rooms to try to lure children into having sex, and a probe of a check fraud scheme involving more than $1 million in losses in four states.

New Zealand Jumps In Lead For Most Screwed Up Kids
=================================
New Zealand: A 14-year-old Te Puke girl was sentenced in Tauranga District
Court yesterday to three years’ jail on charges of sexual violation, attempted rape, robbery and kidnapping.
Originally a Youth Court matter, the girl was sentenced in the District Court because the charges were too serious for the Youth Court. Judge Ian Thomas suppressed the girl’s name, saying it may help with her longer term rehabilitation.
The six charges arose from an incident involving a 13-year-old boy and girl at Te Puke’s Jamieson oval on November 11 last year.
The 14-year-old was the main offender in a scene inside the unused scoreboard building where the two 13-year-olds were taken and ordered to have sex at knifepoint.
