8161 – Friday, what to do?

Called CompUSA last night around 4pm, and the voice mail is full. do they not ever check it?

Called the manager, Jackie, and said a tech would call me back once finished with a customer. I requested an eta, and she said “a half hour, tops.

I called back 2 hours later after no call came in. I spoke to Steve, who said that he’ll call and find out the problem, and for me to call him at noon tomorrow if I haven’t heard back from him yet. Let’s see what the excuse is this time.

As assumed, no Danny today, so plan B – walkabout. Treat myself to good times. Chinese Buffet for lunch, maybe CJ’s for dinner. Work out. Wander someplace I’ve never been before. I think I’m going to pass on the spa, unless I stumble across it in my journeys.

FP will take place tomorrow with Kev and Tomi, maybe Brad?

8091 – vortiginous entry

GeotargetRS thinks that I have some big secret plans for the weekend, I think because I let her go on about her weekend plans and whatnot, and then we got to talking about something else. Nope, nothing special planned… just sleeping in and lingering around the neighborhood, doing more walkies if I can. No glamorous binges on booze and loose women, just a nice weekend out and about.

FDLE coming by the office on Monday morning, FBI Tuesday, and who knows what Wednesday will bring? Maybe big brain, ha-ha? I’m glad that HP has been as patient with me as possible.

I was so beat last night that I fell asleep at 8:30… woke up at 4ish am as a result. I suspect my weekend might be a little out of whack as a result. A bit too brisk out for a swim in the pool… maybe after the sun rises.

I find it amazing that my electric bill for the new one bedroom is less than my old studio… the old place must’ve not been very well weather sealed. $70 is almost a third less than what I paid last January. Also, automatic billpay is beautiful. I just get an email a week before it’s paid, so I can update my records, and hey, presto!

Laser pointer is nifty in the early morning fog… the line goes on for a huge distance.

Dopey dreams of work last night…I don’t much like it when the daily mundane starts stepping on areas that usually allow for people being changed into modular string bean / sabre-toothed tiger stereo components. Most of the drama that I was expecting to happen didn’t occur yesterday, so maybe that was why it was pressing on the brain. Next Friday will be considerably different, and I expect the company to have some drastic changes in one way or another by February.

May be getting together with Bro tomorrow, if plans stay on track. I think a beach walk is in order, or maybe a bike trip.

word of the day: fabiform – shaped like a bean

Speaking of words, I never seem to get a good opportunity to use the term “vortex”. (not to mention – vortical, vorticose, vorticular or vortiginous) Like kissing a woman’s hand, it’s either too much, or not enough.

Windows update now has an official security patch for the wmf vulnerability…update your system normally, and you’ll no longer need that patch posted earlier. To delete the old patch, go to the control panel, add/remove programs – It will be in the list of installed programs as “Windows WMFMetafile Vulnerability HotFix”. click on change/remove, and once it’s out, reboot. all done!

Those Yahoo ads are earning about $0.56 a day lately, down from an overall average of about $2.69 a day. (one insane day 12/15 that got nuts threw off the average.. $19.68) .. but most days haven’t broken a dollar. Upside, there has only been one day when *nothing* was earned since I started hosting them. That plus the $50 flat I get each month from my static front page linkies every month makes for a nice charity lump sum base.

GeotargetTossed a couple of yahoo ads (like my old google ones) on my homepage and journal location at my website. I’ve already earned a whopping $.73! They cut a check every $100, so it’ll probably be a good few months before I see any funds at this rate. I’m hoping all the spider-sites will click through and bring me some funds.

Have to call up and check on big brain again. I’m beginning to suspect that they’re keeping it for all the fun stuff on the HD’s.

HBO is actively poisoning the BitTorrent downloads of the new show Rome.

I’m glad they mention PeerGuardian. (Hint, add all lists provided.)

The first time I’ve looked at the lj portal page in a bout a year.. they’ve cleaned it up a little bit, but I don’t see any non-cosmetic differences.

Installed new Nvidia drivers (9/2/05 ones) and my system is looking *great*. Second life at a higher resolution and less crash issues. I’m going to reinstall farcry, and see how that does, next.

The higher res desktop frees a lot of real estate up, too. I’m impressed.. it’s like I’ve got a new system. 1280 x 1024 x 2 monitors (so it’s actually 1280 x 2048, if you want to get technical) it makes it pretty hard to revert to the 1024 x 768 single screen at work.

Big boss in Maryland today, opening the state with a press conference… If things were different with cej, I’d probably be going along as well. Oh well, it was a good run, for the most part.

This is the case peer-to-peer file sharers have been waiting for. Tanya Andersen, a 41 year old disabled single mother living in Oregon, has counter sued the RIAA for Oregon RICO violations, fraud, invasion of privacy, abuse of process, electronic trespass, violation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, negligent misrepresentation, the tort of “outrage”, and deceptive business practices.

If you can only watch one Kafkaesque Flash animation about the ennui of being a giant fat chicken-juggling bear on a unicycle in a German circus with dreams of freedom, make it this one.

7783 – Chex Mix of stuff.

I heard the sound of water dripping on tile, looked down, and noticed my foot was bleeding. A tiny puddle of red had formed, before I staunched the flow with a paper towel. I have no idea what I cut myself on, but I didn’t even feel it.

Going out to lunch with Jenjen this afternoon. Hopefully, it’ll be funfun!

I wonder what GrayPumpkin is up to these days… hopefully he’s just busy. Oct-Dec can be quite a time for him and Katt, visitor-wise and so on.

Ah, here’s my issue – error – VC316-2, VC316-1W – Video memory – Hardware

I suspect all the power spikes gave it a fry. Next paycheck, I’ll grab a new video card, and see how that works.

I sometimes read the word “Flower” (like the plant) as “FLOH-er” (like something that flows).

Icon o’ the day – Rainbow Raider!

rainbow raider!

“We’re gonna find our father, but between everything here and there, we’re going to kill everything bad.”

I heard that quote played in the background while I was reading stuff online. The show was Supernatural but I thought about how keen it would be if these two were just delusional murderers raised by some psycho who got trotted off to jail. I flashed to the “monster hunters” are killing innocent people who were impeding there progress in recovering their father from some institution…. the show, instead of being another “Project Bluebook/X-files/Chill Game” type gig could instead be the insane POV of a pair of guys sublimating homicidal activities with some severe schizo hallucinations. Two guys traveling around leaving a trail of bodies in their wake, blaming invisible “monsters” nobody’s ever seen. The FBI is going to take ’em down, and soon.

That said, I actually kind of like Supernatural for what it actually is… yet another bogey-hunter show.

National Geographic has a live webcam pointed at an African watering hole. “Embark on a quiet adventure and watch wildlife gather at Pete’s Pond. Baby baboons scurry in the dust. Wildebeests push and shove to make room at the watering hole. Warthogs wallow in the mud. Catch these moments and more in these video clips.” See Also – Baby Panda cam! and of course, NewtCam.

I’m happy. I saw elephants. Speaking of which, this would make a great tattoo –

7730 – 2nd life is getting pretty awesome.

Imageshack keeps thumbnails, but kills the large images? doesn’t seem right!

Interesting that most people on my last lj-poll (including myself) want to be physically unharmed/physically healthy. I wonder if it’s because most of the people I read are more mentally/emotionally resilient, or if it’s because there aren’t any nerve endings involved?

Lovely Walkabout during the early evening… Didn’t hit the water bus or galleria, but I got some prime hoofing in up and down riverwalk and to the beach before heading home. Only one photo… a positive graffito –

Smiles! Mr. Roark is tagging these days!

Um, what was that, Hal? Icon of the day.

That poll-meme has put me on the trail of some really great music! Thanks!

Java – super Mario world. Impressive!

Spent a boatload of time in 2nd Life yesterday… HP and I had a grand time in the “Burning Life” (Burning Man simulation realm), including areas that was a giant bounce house and assorted science experiments / art projects. A lot like There, all over again, but this seems to have more opportunity to really shine.

Some pictures from 2nd life

7648 –

Hm, no payment on my ad-links for the last month… I suppose I’ll take ’em down if I don’t see anything by the first week of September.

Heard from Magda last night and it was quite nice… but all too brief. She’s going to Costa Rica for a week or two, and then back to Colombia, and then back to Fort Lauderdale.

A pretty funny trailer for a hillbilly Kung-Fu zombie movie which does not yet exist, presumably only because Billy Bob Thorton has yet to get wind of it.

Abednego

Meaning: servant of Nego = Nebo.

This was the Chaldee name given to Azariah, one of Daniel’s three companions (Dan. 2:49). With Shadrach and Meshach, he was delivered from the burning fiery furnace (3:12-30).

Looked it up, after hearing a man name his dog that. Pretty nifty name.

7611 –

Last Summer Day with Danny today.. we’re probably going to do a little play of pirates, hang out and have some supper. He told me yesterday that he hasn’t been on the internet for about a month or more. That’d be like me not *reading* anything for a month or more… unheard of.

Had a lovely time chitty-chattin’ with weez & sedef last night, and I’m delighted that I might get another chance to see ’em sometime soon! Quite a pair of sweeties they are! (Even if they are threatening to get me a bunch of Strawberry shortcake branded stuff!)

Taken – Yikes, scary monster cartoon!

Cuteness overload mousie.

6911 – Fried, eh?

Hm.. it’s odd, but it seems that the hair on my chest is getting lighter, from a very dark brown to a fairer, more of an orange-y brown. Is my pelt changing with the seasons? I haven’t noticed it before, and I’ve not been in the sun with my shirt off recently. Very strange… no noticble change in texture.

That’s your TMI moment of the morning, dear journal.

Bots are getting sillier.

Email rec’d today

6907 – Humpday!

Bro called and apologized for bailing on Monday. Maybe I can take him out to lunch sometime this week.

Mount St. Helens VolcanoCam

Oktoberfest is coming… maybe I won’t totally miss it this year. Chicken Dance!

Downloaded Dawn of War demo… it’s really nice. A typical build your resources, make an army , hold your ground game, like age of empires, but graphically amazing… and amazingly graphic. Definitely M for mature. The voice talent is sweet, too. Multiplayer must be a hoot.

I’m doing a community meeting with the local police tonight… Hopefully that’ll fly well. The map stuff always impresses folks.

The Bugmenot plugin for mozilla is great… never have to worry about registering at any news site again… the way it should be.

LA to New York, time lapse drive. pretty spiffy. (quicktime embedded on page, w/sound)

Marvel’s Looking for voice talent for an Avengers Animated movie.

The sample working scripts are sort of cringeworthy.
