Am I retarded, or is having a unix webspace without CLI just a file storage and such place? Is there a sane way to run programs (like installers that take parameters) without having a command line? Is it possible to make a shell script do that in a clean, and manageable way?
I’m so spoiled…
# procedure to check if the setuid bit is on
sub checkSUID {
return( -u $_[0] );
}
Some file test operators
-r readable
-x executable
-e exists
-d is a directory
-t is a tty
-T text file

Working on a perlscript for work.
Geez… does Netscape do *everything differently* ? Even the gif file timing is off!

Stopping People from Using Your Images on their Web Pages. (Bandwidth Theft)
If you have some nice graphics on your site, you might notice that other webmasters, usually newbies are having their readers pull the graphics directly from your site. If your bandwith is metered, then you are paying to support somebody else’s site! Depending on how busy that other site is, it can also place additional load on your server.

Something I’ve been noticing lately… and I’m occasionally guilty of it myself. No longer. From now on, I’ll post a link to the site, or copy the pic and use it locally.

today is wednesday?
I lost a day? Alien Abduction? Hormones? Sleepiness?
I know…Codeburn.
*shakes head, and rattles that bean back into it’s proper holder*

hmm… even http://personal.bellsouth.net/~svonberg works.
remote relocators for 10 megs more of free space… maybe I’ll relocate the newtcam there, and have it go streaming.
well… poo on a stick!
Deadjournal is down now?
ugh
A sample of the selectivity for the grotto… may or may not keep the idea. a petroglyph for each region?

aimbot smarterchild is getting smarter. 🙂
it has language translation on there now… French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish so far, and a spellcheck, plus new games.
I heartily recommend adding him to your buddylist (for aim, yahoo, msn… I think ICQ is coming soon, too. ).. it has a good web search, btw. 🙂
The house is now clean, save for me. Time for the pod to make with the self-wash.
Working on the webpage redesign, and stumbled over this page – http://www.culture.gouv.fr/culture/arcnat/chauvet/en/index.html
the map interaction is similar to what I want.
bonus factoid
Cave Bear :
A very tall bear with a massive head. It was vegetarian and did not live in caves, but hibernated there. It became extinct approximately 10,000 years ago.
I don’t understand why everyone’s up in arms about Microsoft removing support for older Netscape-style plugins from the latest upgrade to Internet Explorer. Yes, it’s annoying, I’ll grant you that; now, I have to download QuickTime movies in order to watch them. But strangely, other plugins haven’t been broken (like RealPlayer and Acrobat, at least on my machine), so I’m finding it hard to blame Microsoft, rather than Apple, for this one. And has anyone ever demanded that Netscape add support for ActiveX components? Once again, it smells like hatred, rather than logic, is driving this outrage.
Two things blogger has over LJ – I can embed any html into it I want, without compromising security.
Shockwave, Java, whatnot. 🙂
http://www.scottobear.com/blog/blog.html
Two upsides for LJ –
friend’s list & a nice memories feature. Ah well, I can always point my friends over there if I want to show something off.
Each page will have a different feel, but common to the design (have alt lynx friendly for the old-schoolers & disabled)
Overhead frame with a map of where to go/ What to do… interactive/flash. Not too showy, functional and clean…
1 cave opening, wooden signpost – News (index page) Powered by LJ? perhaps just a simple CGI script. 2nd most dynamic page
2 Gallery (cave paintings) Probably the 2nd most static page
a- Whiteboard to play on?
3 Writing
a-Journal – Stream (of thought) blind fish… wet, and living Most dynamic page.
b-Programming (Mongo’s Firepit?)
c-fiction Veins of some mineral? Is gold to vain? Gems? each a different story? if a vein, perhaps a timeline of creation?
4 links (rear exit of the grotto… a lighted path away to a woodland glade, or down the mountain?), include ring memberships here
5 bio (Stalagtites & mites… most static part of the page… bats?) dedication, credits to assistant(s)?
6 newtcam (imagery is undecided…)
7+ ??? Toybox? Game? Is a guestbook needed, with the journal? Site stats?
My gosh… was my everway group a year ago already? I’ve also officially been on the noon-8 shift a year now.
My everway Character. My favorite diceless roleplay game. You get cards with pictures on them, and you use them to resolve any issues… a neat idea.
Hmm… newtcam froze at about 5:45 tonight, and my ftp password is being blocked… I’ll have to call dave in the morning.
Gah!
