Walkabout was pleasantly fruitful. I’ve got a touch of color on my face, put in a solid bout of workout, a comfortable, but long10ish mile meander. I need to get some new shoes. Remembered to wear my ballcap today, so the sun didn’t scald me too badly.

8353 – Mamma’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers!

Well, Momster and Wilt are pretty sick and out of commission, so that frees up my Sunday brunch schedule. Walkies it is! I’m not going to dine out this morning, because I know it’s pretty much a universal restaurant crowd sort of holiday. It just means I can go to a non-mommy-type place with relative ease today… maybe a movie?

Had a lovely long phone talk yesterday, to make more vacation plans, but we ended up simply chitty-chatting… that was quite nice, too.

An Alien Saucer is hovering overhead. A cone of coherent lime green light erupts from the bottom center of the craft, and strikes a man walking down the street.

He vanishes with a flash, and a popping sound of air rushing to fill the void where he once was.

Poll inspired by this video. (quicktime, via)

Moment of Lyric – mp3

With a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound
He pulls the spitting high tension wires down

Helpless people on a subway train
Scream bug-eyed as he looks in on them

He picks up a bus and he throws it back down
As he wades through the buildings toward the center of town

Oh no, they say heโ€™s got to go
Go go Godzilla, yeah
Oh no, there goes Tokyo
Go go Godzilla, yeah

Rinji news o moshiagemasu!
Rinji news o moshiagemasu!
Godzilla ga ginza hoomen e mukatte imasu!
Daishkyu hinan shite kudasai!
Daishkyu hinan shite kudasai!

Oh no, they say heโ€™s got to go
Go go Godzilla, yeah
Oh no, there goes Tokyo
Go go Godzilla, yeah

History shows again and again
How nature points up the folly of men

8351 – Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, a Day of Rest!

Got together with Kev last night, did a classic fart party at my place… pizza, caught up on gossip and family, and watched the extended version of buckaroo banzai. I think that he’ll do quite well to be away from his siblings and in-laws for a year. Newt was pretty talkative…he smelled Kev’s Zoo, and was investigating him the whole time, alternately nuzzling, sniffing, and bipping.

Yesterday morning when I left for work, the smell of ozone was in the air, and thunder in the distance. I put my palm, cell phone and digicam in a sealed plastic bag, and went to the stop with umbrella as a walking-stick. Before I cleared the D building, it was coming down in sheets. By the time I made it to the bus stop, I was soaked through, save for a circle of only semi-wet the size of my bumbershoot coverage. My natural body-heat dried most of me out, save for socks and shoes, which squished throughout the day. Not the most fun feeling, and I really couldn’t take ’em off, because I had some dog & pony shows / trainings to do. I was more than delighted to be free of those foot-bindings once I arrived home.

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) told her caucus members during their weekly closed meeting Wednesday that impeachment is off the table; she is not interested in pursuing it.

Dear Ms. Pelosi, kiss my ass. If it’s your job to assist in prosecution of folks that commit crimes, then assist. If they don’t find any crimes, then state that fact, clear their good name and move on to doing your fricking job elsewhere.

Ok, so it turns out form my blood test that I’m allergic to a number of foods that I’m pretty partial to, and I have to do another sleep study to see what’s up with my snoozles.

Moment of Lyric- mp3

I donโ€™t mind you cominโ€™ here
And wastinโ€™ all my time
โ€™cause when youโ€™re standinโ€™ oh so near

Itโ€™s not the ribbons in your hair
I donโ€™t mind you cominโ€™ here
And wastinโ€™ all my time

Minor confession – When I log into multi-player shooters, If I wish to be the antagonist of the other players, I have an ID known as “Chapeau Noir”, and I type messages in a pseudo-French accent.

Woke up from sleep, and had a weird feeling that I was isolated…and that there was a hurricane coming. I was feeling a bit more panic that I do when a Hurricane is *really* coming. It passed a short time after I started the shower… very little trepidation now, though if I didn’t have the doc’s appointment later in the day, I probably would’ve called in sick to work. Since the office is right up the street, I’ll see how I do this morning. Still having some hot flashes, but no stuffy nose/cough or whatnot sort of symptoms.

I wonder if it’s a side effect of reading – Sketches of a catastrophe – Miami Herald’s Hurricane info.

Cut the fat off the back of a baboon
Boil it down to a pound into the spoon
Scoop the eye from a fly flying backwards
Take the jaws and the paws off a ‘coon
Take your time, I ain’t lyin’ for good cookin’

Brush your teeth with a piece of a goose toenail
After death steal a breath of a drunk in jail
Pull the skin off your friend with a razor blade
And tonight change tomorrow and bring back yesterday
Shake your hip, bite your lip, and shoot your mother-in-law
Put on your gorilla suit, drink some elbow soup and have a ball
Get it straight, don’t be late, it’s time for mad fun
Take off your shoes, and cook onion stew
    They have really begun!

At the feast with the beast of the Mau Maus

8342 – Q has the lowdown on what happened to LJ recently –

    The dishonor of Blue Security

There was quite a bit of teeth gnashing across the web throughout the evening yesterday as TypePad, LiveJournal, and all the other hosted Six Apart websites went dark; we learned late in the night that the cause was a โ€œsophisticated distributed denial of service attackโ€ against the sites. Digging a little deeper, though, it doesnโ€™t look like this is a particularly accurate description of what happened โ€” but instead of this being a case of the folks at Six Apart trying to cover up some internal issue, it instead looks like theyโ€™re being far too gracious in not revealing more about another company, Blue Security, which appears to have been responsible for the whole disaster. An explanation of this requires a slight bit of background.

    8340 – Friday 5

    1. Have you ever been to Mexico?

Yup! Mostly for Ruins and Diving…. I’ve never been to TJ. Climbing a pyramid is hard work when you’re used to being at sea level, by the way.

    2. Do you know anyone who is currently in the military?

Sure, tons of ’em, some in my family. Though the majority are retired, there are plenty of active folks. Best known I’d say is Cousin Kelly – Marine.

    3. What is the last party you attended?

hm. Good question. Birthday, I think? J Peters had one at the club a month or three ago.

    4. What do you think about President Bush saying that the United States’ National Anthem should only be sung in English?

Heck, I don’t care. If someone’s heart is in the right place, knock yourself out in the format. Spanish, English, Esperanto, ASL, Klingon, while dropping acid like Jimi or grabbing your crotch like Roseanne. That’s sort of what the USA is supposed to be about.. that whole Melting Pot thing. If it were another country besides this one, I’d say stick to the native tongue.

Bush isn’t the first to try to remove native loyalties – Woodrow Wilson’s greatest fear was the 15 million immigrants that flooded into the United States between 1900 and 1915. The single largest ethnic group in the United States was German-American. Then there were the Irish-Americans — with the Irish Republican Army launching an uprising against British rule on Easter, 1916. Wilson feared that these two groups would not be willing to take up the fight for the USA. In fact, Wilson proclaimed, “Any man who caries a hyphen around with him carries a dagger that he is ready to plunge into the vitals of the republic.”

    5. French fries or freedom fries?

French Fries. And it’s Sauerkraut, not Victory Cabbage. Kee-ripes.

(Funny that Cinco De Mayo is about defeating the French.)

I might do #10 – Try to get my head around the fact that the Ancient Spanish Monastery and St. Bernard de Clairvaux Church in North Miami Beach is the oldest building in the western hemisphere. It was built in Spain in the 10th century, purchased by William Randolph Hearst in 1925 and finally reassembled in Florida in the 1950s. Cistercian monks lived in the building for its first 700 years of life. 16711 W. Dixie Highway. North Miami Beach, 305-945-1461. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, but call ahead because it closes for the many weddings and receptions that are held on its grounds. Admission: $5 adults, $2.50 students and seniors, $2 children 12 and younger.

Who knew that a 1000 year old building is right up the street?
